I seek refuge in Allah (AJ) from the accursed Satan
In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
Alhamdulillahi Rabbil ‘aalameen, was salaatu was salaamu ‘alaa Ashrafil Mursaleen, Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammadul Mustafa ﷺ.
Always a reminder for myself, ana abdukal ‘ajeez, wa dayeef, wa miskin, wa zhalim, wa jahl, and but for the grace of Allah (AJ) that we’re still in existence.
4:59 – “…Atiullaha wa atiur Rasula wa Ulil amre minkum…” (Surat an-Nisa)
“…Obey Allah, obey the Messenger, and those in authority among you…” (The Women, 4:59)
Prophet ﷺ is The Gate of Mercy
Alhamdulillah, for the blessed month of Ramadan, inshaAllah, and the Baab ur Rahmah (the Gate of Mercy) and the mercy of the presence of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. Alhamdulillah, Allah (AJ), inshaAllah, opening now the gate of maghfirah (forgiveness). In which we described last night that if Allah (AJ) opened for us, the only way that we can enter into fasting and Ramadan and its immense oceans of Divine grace is that Allah (AJ) allows the servants to draw to near to the presence of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. That the rahmah (mercy) of Allah (AJ) dresses the servant and then enables them to fast, enables them to accomplish God’s Grace, Allah’s (AJ) rida and satisfaction. As a result, that maghfirah begins. “Jaooka fastaghfaro Allaha wastaghfara lahumur Rasul.”
4:64 – “Wa law annahum idh zhalamoo anfusahum jaooka fastaghfaro Allaha wastaghfara lahumur Rasolu lawajado Allaha tawwaban raheema.” (Surat An-Nisa)
“And if, when they had oppressed/wronged themselves, they had but come to you (O’ Muhammad (pbuh)], and asked forgiveness of Allah, and asked forgiveness of the messenger (pbuh), they would have found Allah Acceptor of Repentance/Forgiving, Merciful.” (The Women, 4:64)
In which Allah (AJ) gave to us in ayatul kareem (the generous verse of Holy Qur’an) that, ‘Go, go to the presence of Prophet ﷺ and in that presence ask My forgiveness.’ Because Allah (AJ) wants the nation to understand the importance of the presence of Prophet ﷺ. That somebody comes and gives to you the Qur’an, gives to you their knowledge, gives to you all their realities, you don’t take it and go. That Allah (AJ) wants us and the nation to understand that your value as a nation and your value as a creation and your value to the Divinely Presence is your proximity to Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. This is the gift that our Lord gives to honour Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. So that we know our value.
Our Value is in Our Proximity to Prophet ﷺ
Our value is not in our individual-ness but our value is in how our proximity to the prophetic reality. Each nation to their Prophet (as) peace and blessings be upon them all. So we speak for the Muhammadan nation which is all-encompassing of every nation. That our value as a human being, as a community and as a nation is the closeness to our Prophet ﷺ and how much we love Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. Not somebody who delivered the mail and we go off on our own. That whatever he gave to us of Qur’an is not activated without his holy presence. Those are all of the talks that we gave in ‘The reality of encryption’ and all of these different modern understandings.
That now everything in life is going to draw near to the Heavenly Kingdom. Because God’s Kingdom is coming and God’s Judgment is coming. So that means all of the signs of Allah’s (AJ) Kingdom are coming. So the tech people they are inspired by these jinn (unseen being) realities. That pretty soon you won’t be able to do something without your own identity card. Everything about you is on that zip file or whatever device or phone device, whatever they want to put the technology on. It is everything about you and nothing is going to be activated without that proximity. All your wealth will be on that phone or on that electronic chip. Everything about you will be based on that. These are just the symbols of the heavens that Allah (AJ) is giving to us. That your value is not in your uniqueness of being yourself. Because that’s what your nafs (ego) teaches you, ‘Isolate, be yourself, be with me,’ the nafs and then become very nafsani (egocentric).
Turuq (Spiritual Paths) Teach Us How to Gain Proximity to Prophet ﷺ
But your value is your proximity to Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. That did you gain a nearness, a dearness and a goodness? That’s why the turuqs are the way. The way to what? They’re the way to Prophet ﷺ to teach us that we must have good character, we must have good manners. That we must have a loving nature because nothing of Prophet ﷺ will accept anything but that nature. As soon as the nature becomes wild then the nearness to Prophet ﷺ is moved away. Truth and falsehood they don’t sit together.
17:81 – “Wa qul jaa alhaqqu wa zahaqal baatil, innal batila kana zahoqa.” (Surat Al-Isra)
“And say, Truth has come, and falsehood has perished. Indeed falsehood, [by its nature], is ever perishing/bound to perish.” (The Night Journey, 17:81)
We described that Hadith of Prophet ﷺ when he got up and moved away and described that, ‘As soon as shaitan (satan) comes that shaitan and myself we don’t sit in the same proximity.’ So this is like a summation of everything of tariqah (spiritual path). That our honour, our rank, the beatific fragrance that we endue is not a philosophical argument amongst people. ‘No, this is honourable. No, that guy is honourable. No, that way is honourable.’ But awliyaullah (saints) come and make a very easy summary – your honour is in your proximity to Prophet ﷺ, that’s it!
Someone’s Honour Lies in Embodying Prophet’s ﷺ Character
Someone’s honour is in their proximity to Prophet ﷺ. If you want to see their honour, imagine how much of the character of Prophet ﷺ they endue and embody. Because how can someone think that their proximity is close, they don’t embody the same characteristics? That could be from shaykhs, from mureeds (devoted disciple), from imams (religious scholars) from people anywhere in this Islamic world that we identify. You go somewhere and we’ve said before some of these imams screaming. Some of the shaykhs angry calling people kufar, making judgments, making all these things. Some mureeds whatever they do in life it means everything is a sign for us. What Allah (AJ) inspires and what Prophet ﷺ inspires and awliya because they want to talk about the greatness of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. It is that ‘You always put into your head that would Prophet ﷺ do like that?’ Do they exhibit the kindness and the kholoq (character) because Prophet ﷺ described that, ‘I have been sent on Earth to what? Addabani Rabbi fa ahsana ta’dibi.’
“.قَال رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ:”أَدَّبَنِي رَبِّي فَأَحْسَنَ تَأْدِيبِي
Qala Rasulullahi ﷺ : “Addabani Rabbi fa ahsana ta’dibi.”
The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said, “My Lord taught me good manners and He taught me in the most excellent way”
“.قَال رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ:”إِنَّمَا بُعِثْتُ لِأُ تَمِّمَ مَكَارِمَ الْأَخْلاقِ
Qala Rasulullahi ﷺ :“Innama bu’istu le Utammima makarimal Akhlaq.”
The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said, I was sent to perfect your manners.”
‘I’ve been sent only to perfect the character of people.’ But everybody seems to have forgotten that and ‘This one is kufar,’ God forbid they say these words, ‘This one is like this, that one is like this.’ Everybody about judging, ‘This one is that like that.’ But Prophet ﷺ said, ‘I’ve only been sent to perfect character.’ By following Divine laws, by following Divine rules they’re supposed to perfect our character. So it means that all that’s important to Prophet ﷺ is character.
All Turuq Teach How to Become Muhammadiyoon
So when we want to judge ourself and understand the proximity of others then we have to think how much of a Muhammadan character is being embodied. That’s why we call this the Muhammadan Way. Not Naqshbandi way, not Rifa’i way not all these other name ways. Those are the schools that should have taught us the Muhammadan way because that’s the only way that matters. Naqshbandi is a school of shaykhs that teach you manners, that should have made you Muhammadiyoon. Rifa’is, they should have taught you how to be Muhammadiyoon. Mevlevis should have taught you how to be Muhammadiyoon. But people get wrapped up in the in the name and not the degree. The degree was you were supposed to have graduated Muhammadiyoon which Allah (AJ), “Khuluqal ‘azheem.”
68:4 – “Wa innaka la’ala khuluqin ‘azheem.” (Surat Al-Qalam)
“Truly, You (O Muhammad!) are of a magnificent character.” (The Pen, 68:4)
‘You are of a magnificent character.’ Allah (AJ) didn’t say, ‘You have an outstanding shari’ah (Divine law), you pray amazing, your nation they pray so amazing where all of creation were astonished by your praying.’ Allah (AJ) has angels that do that and they do it much better than us. Not your fasting is amazing to all of the heavens that all universes are astonished by the ability of not eating for a few hours. But what Allah (AJ) gave is – “Khuluqal ‘azheem.” ‘You have a magnificent character.’ Now coming from Allah (AJ) that must be immensely mighty, immensely mighty and it draws our attention to this path is based on character.
Tests Come in Life to Draw Us Closer to Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ
If what comes to you, you don’t like it and you exhibit badness, you failed. That was the beginning of this journey on the month of tawbah (repentance) the month of Surat Al-Kahf [Month of Safar]. What happens? That you throw rocks at the dog to exhibit good character. Our life is about rocks coming, testing coming, uncomfort and uncomfortable situations to be put in. Things that we don’t understand and we don’t know but the proximity and the test was to draw close to the presence of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. That is only achieved by the good adab (manners) and good character.
So if anyone wants to think if they’re drawing close to the Muhammadan character then that’s the way to understand the tariqah. That why are there people that you give salaams (greetings), they don’t give salaams back? You can’t imagine that. That what part of Prophet ﷺ was that? That how do they exhibit certain characteristics? How do people yell and scream and have so much anger even when they’re giving a khutbah (sermon)? These are not the characteristics, there is not a single example of Prophet ﷺ like that. So that becomes in our journey our isharah and signs.
Spiritual Paths are Based on Manners
You’re looking all around for the signs. Say the signs of what is correct and what is wrong, what is ‘Adab Ya Hu.’ So tariqah would always say, ‘Ya Adab Ya Hu.’ Because the path is based on adab. That’ll be I think our next shirts that come out, ‘Adab Ya Hu.’ It sums everything. You can say you’ve memorized all the hadith in the world but if you have no adab, you’re basically garbage. You can memorize all Qur’an in the world and it didn’t change you to have adab then for what value? You could have given everything in life of donations and you have no adab. It means those practices didn’t change the person to be what Prophet ﷺ wants from them. So by means of that, they did not grow near to the reality.
So our honour in the 15 days, only reason we were able to enter these 10 days of Ramadan, Allah’s (AJ) gift is to draw near to Prophet ﷺ because his nation. They opened the gate and Allah (AJ) allows the souls of his nation to draw near to the presence of Prophet ﷺ. His rahmah dresses them, blesses them. My eyesight, as we grow older in life we used to be able to look at little phones. Now our phone is this big. The little I can’t see it with my glasses the little text. So now we got the this phone the size of a laptop now. [Shaykh mentions his iPad].
Holy Month of Ramadan &
The Dress of Surah Al-Takwir
InshaAllah, we go to Surat Al-Takwir – the 81st surah (chapter) that dressing the whole and the holy month of Ramadan. Imagine then the immensity of the message in Surat Al-Takwir that Allah (AJ) put at the position of the reality of the month of Ramadan in which everything will be laid to waste. That in the believer everything will be crushed, all of their dunya (material world) will vanish, all of the heavens will disappear. This is all at the beginning a description of a state of fana (annihilation). When Allah (AJ) describes that the skies will vanish means your upper chest and your reality. Because every, every reality is not only on the horizon but within themselves. That within themself Allah (AJ) will make everything to vanish and as a result their heart becomes heated up.
Our Journey is Inside, Not Outside
When Allah (AJ) describes the state of the sun in which the heat and the energy of the sun coming like on Yawmul Mahshar and the day of judgment; everyone has their own day of judgment within themselves. If they can meditate and reach to a state of death before death means it is like your day of judgment. In which everything within the horizon of your inner being vanishes. That every, every inner fermentation and everything about the lights and the stars everything, will collapse. As if your chest begins to open up and that you draw near now to the Heavenly Presence and the Heavenly Kingdom.
Because as the journey is inside, the first parts of the journey you’re looking in and you’re seeing your character. You’re seeing all the rabs and all the lords that govern you of your drinking, your smoking, your anger, your bad character. You’re not seeing Rabi’ul ‘aala (The Lord Most High). You see the rab who is the zalim (oppressor). You meditate, you say, ‘Why I bothered that person?’ Meditate, ‘Why I said this to that person?’ I meditate, ‘Why I cheated this person? Why I took from this? Why I said from that?’ Those are the lords that govern people.
Journey to the Lord of Power [Surah Takwir: Verse 14-19]
Allah (AJ) describing in Surat Al-Takwir that you come to a state in which all of that dunya, if you clean it, will begin to vanish. The ferment and the heavens of your inner chest will all begin to collapse and fall down in which nothing remains but the light within the heart. So means you’re now entering into the heavens and into the paradise reality of your internal journey to the Lord of power. ‘Every soul shall know what it put forward. Verily I call to witness the planets as they recede, they go straighter, they hide and as the night as it dissipates.’
81:14-17 – ” ‘Alimat nafsum maaa ahdarat (14). Falaaa uqsimu bil khunnas (15). Al jawaaril kunnas (16). Wallaili izaa ‘as’as (17).” (Surat At-Takwir)
It means their own fana within themself, everything in their journey will become darkened. Everything becomes blackened as if everything has been like in a judgment day and collapses. That they have to enter into this oceans of light. ‘And the dawn as it breathes away every darkness, verily thus is the word of a most honourable messenger.’
81:18-19 – “ “Wassubhi izaa tanaffas (18). Innahoo laqawlu rasoolin kareem (19).” (Surat At-Takwir)
“And by the dawn when it breathes (18). Verily this is the word of a most honourable Messenger (19).” (The Overthrowing, 81:18-19)
Majesty of Prophet ﷺ Described by Allah (AJ) [Surah Takwir: Verse 20-24]
InshaAllah we’ll read from Surah Takwir – 81 verse 20 to 24, inshaAllah. Verse 20 to 24, inshaAllah shaykh.
Audience: “A’uzu Billahi Minash shaitanir Rajeem Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem. “Zee quwwatin ‘inda zil ‘arshi makeen. Mutaa’in samma ameen. Wa maa saahibukum bimajnoon. Wa laqad ra aahu bilufuqil mubeen. Wa maa huwa ‘alal ghaibi bidaneen”. SadaqAllahul aliyyul ‘Azim.
81:20-24 – “Zee quwwatin ‘inda zil ‘arshi makeen (20) Mutaa’in samma ameen (21) Wa maa saahibukum bimajnoon (22) Wa laqad ra aahu bilufuqil mubeen (23) Wa maa huwa ‘alal ghaibi bidaneen (24).” (Surat At-Takwir)
“Endued with Power, with rank before the Lord of the Throne, (20) With authority there, (and) faithful to his trust. (21) And (O people!) your companion is not one possessed; (22) And without doubt he saw him in the clear horizon. (23) Neither doth he withhold grudgingly a knowledge of the Unseen. (24)”. (The Overthrowing, 81:20-24)
SadaqAllahul ‘Azim wa barakah Rasulul Kareem (Most Generous Messenger). “Innahoo laqawlu rasoolin kareem (Holy Qur’an, 81:19).” ‘Verily this is a word from the most honourable messenger.’
Rasulul Kareem – A Title Given to Prophet ﷺ by Allah (AJ)
“Innahoo qawlun rasoolin kareem (Holy Qur’an, 81:19).” When say, ‘Why Rasulul Kareem and why you keep saying Rasulul Kareem? That oh Allah (AJ) is kareem.’ No, Allah (AJ) is giving the title to Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. That if Allah (AJ) is describing Rasulul Kareem is kareem because he must be giving something and that is the immensity. ‘Endued with power with rank before the Lord of the mighty throne.’ “Wa quwwatin ‘inda hu zil ‘arshi makeen (Holy Qur’an, 81:20).”
So means that in this horizon of entering into this immense oceans of power, Allah (AJ) is confirming that you’re entering into the presence of a amazingly powerful messenger of Allah (AJ) with a rank from the Lord of a mighty throne. ‘With authority therein and faithful to his trust.’ “Mutaa’in samma ameen. Mutaa’in samma ameen (Holy Qur’an, 81:21).” From “ataa, mutaa’in” means one whom is most ataa – the one whom is most obeyed in this Divinely Presence. Because the month of Ramadan is the month of ghashiya (dust) in which Allah (AJ) will destroy every nafs (ego) and every dunya within the person as they’re fasting. They don’t even have to know it. All day long as they’re fasting, their inner reality has been taken into the heavens. Everything has been brought down, everything has been crushed. Allah (AJ) then taking the servants into the presence of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. ‘And that your companion is not seeing illusions and without doubt he saw him on a clear horizon (Holy Qur’an, 81:22-23).’
It means all of that reality of clear horizon and the Divinely Presence is about the Isra wal Mi’raj (Night Journey and Ascension) in which Prophet ﷺ gained the access of “Qaaba qawsayni aw adna.”
53:9 – “Fakana qaaba qawsayni aw adna.” (Surat An-Najm)
“And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer [to the Divine Presence].” (The Star, 53:9)
Surat Al-Takwir is About the Inner Mi’raj (Ascension) of Servant
So means the immensity of this month and the immensities of these lights in which Allah (AJ) describes in Surat Al-Takwir is about the inner mi’raj of the servant. It means as Prophet ﷺ went for their outer mi’raj with entire form and body and soul. Ramadan becomes the mi’raj of the believer. In which they enter into their inner reality and by the annihilation of Al-Muntaqim (The Avenger) in which Allah (AJ) avenges His creation against all the works of shaitan.
It means that everything of their dunya like Yawmul Mahshar (Judgment Day) when Allah (AJ) describing on the day of judgment you’re standing. All of a sudden the heavens are collapsing, stars are falling, everything is collapsing. What you ever imagine for the day of judgment of everything collapsing. Because why? The kingdom of Allah (AJ) is coming. How any of it is going to stand in the Presence of Allah (AJ)? It is that the kingdom has to collapse.
Meditation and the Collapse of Inner Dunya
That’s the inner journey also that as we look in and we see everything we’re thinking about is dunya. Everything we think about is all the bad images we’ve been seeing all day. Allah (AJ) says at one point you’re going to be meditating and contemplating and you’ll have your inner day of judgment. In which everything collapse and you see nothing, it is just darkness. Whatever fragments of lights, collapse, everything collapses. So that your inner reality enters a death before death like a judgment. That the heat of your heart begins to overtake you. It becomes so heated with a luminous fire that you’re entering now into the Divinely Presence. But to know that, that presence is the reality of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ.
Where Allah (AJ) describing for us that you’re going into the presence of Rasulul Kareem and that he is one whom is connected to the Divinely Throne – “Dhul arshil ‘azim (Holy Qur’an, 81:20).“ That Allah’s (AJ) immense Throne that Might and that Power and that authority given to Prophet ﷺ. The servant is drawing near into that reality.
Asking for Allah’s (AJ) Forgiveness in Presence of Prophet ﷺ
So means the first 10 days of Ramadan is a rahmah because that reality Allah (AJ) gave to us to be near the presence of Prophet ﷺ. The second 10 days of Ramadan is maghfirah in which we spend the 10 days begging for Allah’s (AJ) forgiveness. That in the presence of Prophet ﷺ making an immense amounts of istighfar (seeking forgiveness). That asking Prophet’s ﷺ forgiveness that, ‘What I did wrong from what you gave to me. What I did wrong of the light that you entrusted with me, I’m asking your forgiveness and that you intercede for me in Presence of Allah (AJ).’
So this is the time in which to ask for our forgiveness and know that our proximity and the nearness of our reality to the presence of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. Everything we do in our life is ask ourself, ‘Will that draw me nearer to the presence or farther away from the presence of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ?’ So we said many times in all our testing, whatever was coming because of meditation and contemplation and tafakkur merely connected our heart and asked Prophet ﷺ, ‘What should we do?’ Always the answer was ‘Best of adab (manners).’ [You say] ‘This and this and this was done wrong,’ in the presence of Prophet ﷺ. [Prophet ﷺ says] ‘Keep your manners. Keep your way and keep your kholoq and your character!’
Keeping Good Character in Face of Every Test
With every test that comes is to act with the kholoq and the character and the love of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. So that we can draw near to that light. Draw near to the fragrance and the blossoms of the heavenly realities of the rose and Gul e Muhammadi ﷺ. Imam Ali (as) described even to have good character to the hand that crushes you.
“.قَالَ إِمَامْ عَلِيٌّ عَلّيِهِ السّلاَم: “كُنْ كَالزَّهْرَةِ الَّتِيْ تُعْطِيْ عِطْرُهَا حَتَّى لِلْيَدِ الَّتِي تَسَحَّقُهَا
Qala Imam ‘Aliyun (as): “Kun kazzahratil lati tu’ti ‘itruha hatta lilyadi allati tasahhaquha.”
Imam ‘Ali (as) said: “Be the flower that gives its fragrance even to the hand that crushes it.”
So like the rose that when you crush it, it releases its fragrance. This is the “khuluqal ‘azheem.” That exhibit good character. That in the face of whatever happens in our lives, exhibit good character. As soon as you leave the good character, you left the presence of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. That’s why no one else has to tell you what you’ve done is wrong.
Good Character Grants Us Nearness to the Holy Presence of Prophet ﷺ
Everyone can understand what they’ve done is either right or wrong. If you had good character, you drew near to the presence of Prophet ﷺ. Not “Nahi wal munkar.”
3:104 – “Waltakun minkum Ummatun yad’oona ilal khayri-wa yumurona bil ma’roofi wa yanhawna ‘anil munkari, wa olayika humul muflihoon.” (Surat Ali-Imran)
“And let there be [arising] from you a nation inviting to [all that is] good, enjoinging what is right and forbidding what is wrong, and those will be the successful.” (Family of Imran, 3:104)
That you went and corrected things. That’s a lie. “Nahi wal munkar” is that you corrected yourself not other people. You correct only yourself. You work only upon yourself and that our responsibility is to have good character. If we were good in our character, we drew near to the presence of Prophet ﷺ.
If the character was not good and the character was not soft and loving then they distance like a repelling magnet. It repels itself because truth and falsehood doesn’t draw close. Can you imagine? So it is common sense that you’re in the presence of Prophet ﷺ and you’re doing things that are repelling and repulsive in character. Do you think you’re actually drawing near? It doesn’t need anyone’s interpretation. No, you’re actually drifting far away. Until it becomes so repulsive that you’re completely out of that ocean and out of that orbit. We pray that Allah (AJ) give us a mind to think, a heart to understand and to do our tafakkur and contemplation. So that it is all common sense. Good deeds, good actions and to see good, inshaAllah.
Subhana rabbika rabbal ‘izzati ‘amma yasifoon, wa salaamun ‘alal mursaleen, walhamdulillahi rabbil ‘aalameen. Bi hurmati Muhammad al-Mustafa ﷺ wa bi siri Surat al-Fatiha.
