There is a Blessing in Diversity

Alhamdulillah, from our teaching, our belief, that Allah (AJ) reminding us that these are known by Allah (AJ). There is nothing that is happening and not forecasted. Then Allah (AJ) wants for us for according to our understanding and so many different understanding, and there is a blessing in diversity. In being patient and tolerant with diversity is a tremendous lesson for Muslim community and for the Muslim community to deal with the non-Muslim community.

Follow the Best of Examples, Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ

What Allah (AJ) wants from us is to follow the way of the best of examples. That from Allah (AJ) describes, “Feekum.” ‘That you have and I have given to you who is amongst you, within you, is the best of example is Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ.’

﴾كَمَا أَرْ‌سَلْنَا فِيكُمْ رَ‌سُولًا مِّنكُمْ يَتْلُو عَلَيْكُمْ آيَاتِنَا …﴿١٥١

2:151 – “Kama arsalna feekum Rasulam minkum yatlo ‘Alaykum ayatina…” (Surat Al-Baqarah) 

“Just as We have sent among (within) you a messenger of your own, reciting to you Our Signs, …” (The Cow, 2:151)

That Prophet ﷺ, for thirteen years struggled in Macca. That when we enter the month of Muharram, the month of struggling, the month of hijrah (migration), what Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ wants for us is ‘Follow my way. Follow my sunnah. Follow my example. Follow my love. Follow my Companions (as). Have love for my Ahlul Bayt (holy family of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ)(as). Have respect for the saliheen and pious people.

But be tolerant, be patient through diversity. Thirteen years, Prophet ﷺ struggled through torture. No jihad, no killing, no la’nat, not even cursing them. But they threw the trash and the garbage at the floor. And before his family could see it, he picked up the trash to hide it, so there would be no anger; so that his companions wouldn’t want to go out and fight.

Our Children’s Hero Should Be Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ

We have the best example. As we go around and we teach and deal with families, we see the biggest danger we have is that our children are leaving. The masjids are filled with much older people, alhamdulillah. But the children are all in nightclubs. The children are all running away.

It is our responsibility and our mission of dawah (propagation) is to get our children to come back, to give them the best of examples of love and compassion. That they should be studying the Seerat un-Nabi ﷺ, the way and example of Prophet ﷺ. They should be celebrating the name of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ, to be the flag of honor for Ummatul Muhammad ﷺ. It means the majlis of Milad un-Nabi ﷺ, Darood Shareef (praising on Prophet Muhammad ﷺ), Darood Pak.

All of that is an example that when the children have a hero. That instead of choosing what they are seeing on television and video games, their hero should be the real example of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ.

Teach Youth the Love and the Way of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ

Many took out that example and they said, “Only Allah (AJ).” And the problem with that is that they follow Allah (AJ), they become compassionate to make Allah (AJ) happy, but they don’t remember the example of how to follow Allah (AJ). Then extremists come in and the extremists, they play with the cords of their heart. They say, ‘Oh, if you want to please Allah (AJ), come and harm yourself and harm other people.’ Where Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ never harmed anyone. Prophet ﷺ led the example of being patient and tolerant.

It’s our responsibility for our generation and our communities to teach the way and the love of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. When they love Prophet ﷺ, have Majlise Milad alayhi salaatu salaam. Come to these majlis and learn the love of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ . They begin to identify, he ﷺ is my hero alayhi salaatu salaam. Prophet ﷺ was patient and tolerant and sweet on his tongue. When they hear a speaker that is not patient and not tolerant and angry and aggressive, immediately their heart can tell this is not the way of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. That helps us to fight extremism. That helps us to fight intolerance.

We are intolerant within our own associations, and people call each other kufar and this and that. Then the children say, ‘Oh, these guys are all arguing, let’s go to the nightclub.’ So, the first example for us is to show the love within our own homes. They see that tolerance within our own associations and our masjids. InshaAllah, they be muslimoon. The ayat ul kareem that imam read for us is, ‘Be the peacemaker and hold tight to the rope of Allah(AJ).’ Allah’s (AJ) rope is Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ

﴾وَاعْتَصِمُوا بِحَبْلِ اللَّـهِ جَمِيعًا وَلَا تَفَرَّ‌قُوا ۚ  ﴿١٠٣

3:103 – “Wa’tasimo bihab lillahi jamee’an wa la tafarraqo…” (Surat Ali-Imran)

“And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not separate…” (Family of Imran, 3:103)

Wa bi Barakati Muhammadil Mustafa, Wa bi Sirri Suratul Fatiha.

Subhana rabbika rabbal ‘izzati ‘amma yasifoon, wa salaamun ‘alal mursaleen, walhamdulillahi rabbil ‘aalameen. Bi hurmati Muhammad al-Mustafa wa bi siri Surat al-Fatiha.
