Did You Merely Accept Islam or Have You Built Your Faith?
From the Realities of Mawlana (Q) as taught by Shaykh Nurjan Mirahmadi
A’uzu Billahi Minash Shaitanir Rajeem
Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem
I seek refuge in Allah (AJ) from the accursed Satan
In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
Alhamdulillahi Rabbil ‘aalameen, was salaatu was salaamu ‘alaa Ashrafil Mursaleen, Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammadul Mustafa ﷺ.
Always a reminder for myself, ana abdukal ‘ajeez, wa dayeef, wa miskin, wa zhalim, wa jahl, and but for the grace of Allah (AJ) that we’re still in existence.
4:59 – “…Atiullaha wa atiur Rasula wa Ulil amre minkum…” (Surat an-Nisa)
“…Obey Allah, obey the Messenger, and those in authority among you…” (The Women, 4:59)
Sayyidina Yunus (as) and Sayyidina Uthman (as) Hold Two Lights
Alhamdulillah, that Allah (AJ) granted us a blessed life to complete the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah and the hajj (pilgrimage) and to be dressed by the lights and the realities of hajj, inshaAllah. With intention of ishq (love) and muhabbat of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ, everything is possible. InshaAllah, by the 18th of this holy month will be the Urs of Sayyidina Uthman ibn Arfan (as), Jami’ul Qur’anil Majid – the Holy Companion and the one whom compiling Holy Qur’an into the mushaf (written copy of Qur’an) that we have now; the immense realities and immense love for Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ, the holder of two lights.
The reality of these two lights, like Sayyidina Yunus (as), Yunus ath-Thani (as). Sayyidina Yunus (as) and the second Yunus ath-Thani (as) that holds these realities of these two lights, this nur (light) and naar (fire), and this is the immense realities of insan (mankind). That Sayyidina Uthman (as), Jami’ul Qur’anil Majid, whom had from the two daughters of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ and called Zunnun that carried two lights. That Prophet ﷺ gave him one of his daughters whom Allah (AJ), bless her soul, passed away and then gave another daughter. This became the Sayyidina Uthman (as), the two lights which has a significance again in the spiritual realm of everything that happens within the physical.
Allah (AJ) Wants Us to Achieve the Highest in Seeking Knowledges and Realities
It has an immense reality within the spiritual. This signified the immense lights that Sayyidina Uthman (as) carries of realities. The one whom is able to compile and to code the Holy Qur’an that we have today with all of its secrets and its realities and this is an immense station. We pray that Allah (AJ) grant us that love and ishq of Sayyidina Uthman (as) and that his nazar (gaze) be upon us and that the secrets in which he contains in this ‘uloom and these knowledges. That they, by love and respect, are transferred into the hearts of those whom carry that love and carry that reality.
All of these realities and haqqaiqs and whatever people want to call them, these are a ni’mat (blessing) and gift from Allah (AJ). Our whole life’s purpose is to seek knowledges and realities. Our purpose was not to come to Earth and stay in kindergarten, but Allah (AJ) wants for us, and the highest achievement in life is the seeking of knowledges. The knowledges then become what knowledge? What knowledges brings the greatest reality? Is it the knowledges of dunya (material world) where people want to become mathematician, doctors, lawyers, physicist, great scientists? Is it the knowledges of religion, which are external knowledges that how to pray, how to wash, memorizing all of these zahiri external realities? Or is it the knowledges of the malakut (heavenly realm) and the knowledges of reality?
Allah (AJ) Doesn’t Care About This Dunya for the Weight of a Mosquito
Because seeking knowledge has so many understandings, but the knowledges that count most are the knowledges pertaining to that which is most dear to Allah (AJ). When Allah (AJ) describes that, ‘I don’t care for this dunya for the weight of a wing of a mosquito,’ it means all of what we value of dunya, it’s not even like the weight of a mosquito wing in Allah’s (AJ) perspective.
ʿAn Sahl ibn Saʿd (ra) qala: qala RasuluAllahi ﷺ: “Law kanatid dunya taʿdilu ʿinda Allahi janaha baʿudatin ma saqa kafiran minha sharbata mayin” [Jami` al-Tirmidhi 2320, Kitab 36, Hadith 17]
Sahl ibn Sa’d (ra) reported: The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: “If the world were as worthy to Allah as the wing of a mosquito, an unbeliever would not even be given a sip of water.” [Jami` al-Tirmidhi 2320, Book 36, Hadith 17]
That the knowledges of dunya, they benefit dunya. But the knowledges of the soul and the haqqaiqs of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ benefit eternity. This is a dress for our eternal soul like a sustenance and a food in which you eat and it eternally dresses you for all of eternity. In this world, it sustains and raises the darajat (stations) of the servant.
Sleep in Wudu So Your Soul Goes Deeper in Realities
Its reality can’t be comprehended because it’s not something oh, that you write it and you put it away; hard to put this into words, but these are knowledges that dress the soul immediately. As soon as these haqqaiqs and the haqqaiqs and Haqiqatul Muhammadiyah (Muhammadan realities) begin to flow, this is a Kawthar (The Fountain of Abundance) and a reality that dresses eternally for the soul. Just one of its understandings is every night when the servant hears a reality.
They sleep in wudu (ablution) and the soul asks and goes under ‘Arsh ar Rahman (Throne of The Most Compassionate) and asks Allah (AJ) from what it learned, may it go deeper into its realities. This can’t be said for physical knowledges. That I heard about sciences that I want to take from its eternal realities, not to the extent of the malakut. I learned about medicine or law and different aspects of the physical world, not to the level of the malakut for eternity.
If You Don’t Pursue Heavenly Realities, You’re Not in Tariqah
I learned about the objectives of washing with not trying to perceive the eternal reality of washing and wudu and salah (daily prayer) and all the zikr. Everything that we’re doing, if it’s not in the pursuit of the worldly and lightly realm, is very limited what we’re going to ask Allah (AJ) for. As a result, pursuit of Divine realities is the highest level of achievement in which the students are to strive to achieve that reality.
Every reality taught to their soul draws them nearer to the Divinely Presence. As a result, more lights, more blessings, more proximity to the Divinely Presence. Nurul anwar wa sirratul asrar – that for every light, there’s a secret and for every secret, there is a light. This is the 1500 years of reality. This was the purpose of tariqah. If you take the pursuit of haqqaiqs away, it’s no longer tariqah. Why? Why then are you following a tariqah?
Your Knowledges of Islam are Merely a Discipline, Not True Faith
If you’re only supposed to go for Jum’ah (Friday prayer), not learn anything, sit in halaqa (circle) for somebody to teach some ‘usool (principles), that’s not tariqah. Tariqah was that you learn those laws, but your hunger and desires were for the realities of ma’rifah (gnosticism). By means of that ma’rifah, you were able to free your slave. The knowledges of Islam is merely a discipline. That’s what we’re trying to convey why Sayyidina Ibrahim (as) on the reality of jamarat (three stone pillars) because he’s a huge prophet, but he’s giving us an example on this example.
Why was Sayyidina Ibrahim (as) struggling with his dream and fulfilling Allah’s (AJ) covenant? That was the big shaitan. When we go for three jamarat and these are the haqqaiqs of the jamarat. Why Sayyidina Ibrahim (as) was struggling? Because Islam is not enough to fight the devil. Why the Arabi came to Prophet ﷺ, ‘Okay, we believe, now what?’ Allah (AJ) clarified, say, ‘Oh, tell them they don’t believe, they merely accepted you ﷺ’.
49:14 – “Qaalatil-A ‘raabu aamannaa qul lam tu’minoo wa laakin qoolooo aslamnaa wa lamma yadkhulil eemaanu fee quloobikum wa in tutee’ul laaha wa Rasoolahoo laa yalitkum min a’maalikum shai’aa; innal laaha Ghafoorur Raheem” (Surat Al-Hujurat)
The desert Arabs say, “We believe.” Say, “Ye have no faith; but ye (only)say, ‘We have submitted our wills to Allah,’ For not yet has Faith entered your hearts. But if ye obey Allah and His Messenger, He will not belittle aught of your deeds: for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”
True Belief is to Love Prophet ﷺ More Than You Love Yourself
Belief is something completely different. What was belief according to Prophet ﷺ? Is that, ‘You have to love me more than you love yourself’.
‘An Anas ibn Malik (ra) qala, qala Rasulullahi ﷺ “La yuminu ahadukum hatta akona ahabba ilayhi min walidihi wa waladihi wan nasi ajma’yeen.” [Sahih Muslim, Hadith 44, wa Al Bukhari, Kitabul Iman, Hadith 15]
Narrated by Anas son of Malik (ra) that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said: “None of you will have faith till he loves me more than his father, his children, and all mankind.” [Authentic by Muslim, Hadith 44 & by Al Bukhari, Book of Faith, Hadith 15]
Those Who Merely Accepted Islam Face Great Battles
It means you have to have died. How can you love someone else other than yourself? It’s if you died to yourself, that yourself was no longer important; very difficult, impossible station to achieve. So, Sayyidina Ibrahim (as) is representing in the hajj. It’s impossible to fulfill Allah’s (AJ) covenant if you’re just in Islam because the devil’s too big and too much confusion. That’s why then the people who merely accept Islam, they face the greatest battle because now their devils are angry.
Then people ask, ‘Oh, people get hurt at jamarat.’ Last two or three years ago when this was coming, 10,000 people were killed at jamarat. Then there must be something more. It can’t be that tariqah is a group of people who merely just accept Islam and stay there. Don’t ask for more, this should be good enough for you.
Sayyidatina Hagar (as) Represents True Faith
Sayyidatina Hagar (as) comes into our life and teaches: no, now with iman and faith, your testing will become more with certainty because as soon as the shaitan talked, she spoke with certainty because Sayyidina Ibrahim (as) is the physicality of her Islam, the shell for her being. Said, ‘If my shell is a servant of Allah (AJ), most definitely I’m firm with Allah (AJ),’ cast the shaitan away, spit at him and sent him away.
So, how then to pursue iman? It’s the tariqahs. When Allah (AJ) wants the servant to achieve iman, they go to the people whom love Prophet ﷺ more than anyone else; any shaykh, any person, and with themselves, their love for Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ must be supreme.
Tariqahs Place Focus on Love of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ
These are the houses of iman. If we don’t see that and we don’t hear that, it’s not from that. Last days, then tariqahs are not really tariqahs. They seem to be external schools pretending to be tariqah. Anything of tariqah, they say, ‘Oh, you don’t do that. Don’t do, don’t…don’t, don’t meditate. Don’t, don’t seek out any knowledges. No, no, no, no, no.’ The way of iman, they must be the houses of iman in which they teach people how to love Prophet ﷺ more than they love themselves.
They must talk often of the reality of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ because that of which you love must be your qibla, must be your focus. Does the moon talk about anything other than the sun? That’s why we have “Shamsi wal Qamar”.
The Moon was Bombarded With Testing
Iman is the station of all those who wish to be a moon in pursuit of the light. This is the light of their universe is Nurul Muhammad ﷺ (light of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ) and their life will be in pursuit of that sunshine. All that they’re interested in life is for the sun to shine upon them. If the other planets are jealous and the other planets have comments, it doesn’t matter as long the sun is shining upon them.
What does the moon show us? Is you’re going to take a load of rocks. The moon, it has been abused. Every other planet they show you is beautiful, but the moon has a lot of craters, a lot of holes. Who did all these holes? Why did they bombard with all these holes? Why Allah (AJ) throughout Qur’an, “shamsi wal qamar, shamsi wal qamar”?
10:5 – “Huwal ladhee ja’alash shamsa Diya an wal qamara Nooran …” (Surat Yunus)
“It is He who made the sun a shining glory/splendor and the moon to be a light (of beauty) …” (Jonah, 10:5)
You Will Be Tested in Your Love of Prophet ﷺ
Because this is the way of ‘arifeen (knowers). This is the tariq (path). The path that the moon is moving, it’s qibla is the light. It never leaves the focus of the light regardless of what any other planet is saying. His focus is to follow the ishq and muhabbat of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. As a result, all the world will attack it. Then be prepared for bombarding. People will comment. People will attack your page. People will attack your post, even from within the tariqah, outside of tariqah. All the dunya will cast its rocks upon the moon to take the moon off of its focus of the sun.
This is why shamsi wal qamar, shamsi wal qamar. This is why the book – The Rising Sun of the West. That our life is to follow that reality and follow the eternal light of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. Only through the bombarding of difficulty, rocks, backbiting and slandering can Allah (AJ) validate that your love is true. If you thought people were going to make two, three comments and you run away, that’s not love. Love is to continuously take bombarding, bombarding, bombarding and the heart is not affected. It understands that this physical realm, that’s all there is.
Your Firmness and Belief in Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ Will Bring You Tranquility
They take the bombarding and the difficulty of physicality for the sake of the ishq and the love of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. That’s in every aspect of their lives; difficulty at work, difficulty at home, difficulty tariqah, difficulty online, difficulty everywhere. Only their firmness in the belief and the ishq and the muhabbat of Prophet ﷺ gives them a sakinah, a tranquility within their heart in which Prophet ﷺ sends emanations into the heart that, ‘Do you feel this love? Do you feel my presence?’ Some begin to witness these lights, witness that presence ﷺ. That is the whole of tariqah. That’s why it’s called tariqah – a way, a way to where? It was a way to the heart of Prophet ﷺ. These are the paths of faith.
They make the people of faith. They produce the houses of faith. That’s the purpose of tariqah. It wasn’t external. Those were the people who were supposed to learn external laws. If they chose to stay in that, then they would be external shaykhs. If they took a path of internal, internal realities, then they’re the people of internal realities, not external realities, no external teaching. So, the tariqah was all internal haqqaiqs which, in last days, these become labels with no more meaning.
When You Accept Islam and Build Your Iman, You Will Reach Maqamul Ihsan
As a result of the hajj and the realities of jamarat, what happens then after you pass and receive the lights of faith? Your yaqeen (certainty) is more perfected because Allah (AJ), with your Islam and your iman coming into perfection, you will give birth to Maqamul Ihsan (Station of Moral Excellence). The childhood innocence within your soul will begin to guide you and give you vision because Maqamul Ihsan is as if you see Allah (AJ). We stop right there. These are the Ahlul Basirah (the people of spiritual vision) in which they see what Allah (AJ) wants them to see.
Qala ﷺ: “An Ta’bud Allaha, Ka annaka tarahu, fa in lam takun tarahu fa innahu yarak.” [Sahih Bukhari 50]
The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) replied, “It is to worship/serve Allah (AJ) as though you behold/see Him; and if you don’t behold/see Him, (know that) He surely Sees you.” [Source: Authentic by Bukhari 50]
Salah is a Coolness of the Eyes and Heart
As a result of their juvenile vision, youthful vision, as they become more and more mature, the visions become more and more powerful. That vision is what guides them, not anyone else, not anything else. The vision of certainty is what gives them the coolness of their belief. The coolness is in what Prophet ﷺ that, ‘My salah is a coolness of my eyes, the eyes of my heart.’
‘An Anas bin Malik (ra) qala: qala Rasulullahi ﷺ “Hubbiba ilaya min dunyakum: Attayib, wan Nisa o, wa ju’yelat qurratu ‘ayni fis Salati.” [Al Sunnan al Kubra, al Bayhaqi 12457]
Anas bin Malik (ra) narrated that Prophet (pbuh) said: “Made beloved to me from your world are perfume/Purity, and Women, and the coolness of my eyes is in prayer.” [Al Sunnan al Kubra, al Bayhaqi 12457]
Sayyidina Isma’il (as) Had Yaqeen in His Belief
Why? Because everything is like a fire. Everything is like a controversy, except for the one whom has Ahlul Basirah, has basirah, has a witnessing through their heart. As soon as they pray or meditate, the coolness of their heart’s vision gives them firmness. That if everything around you is fire, look to our presence and don’t worry about anything else. This was what Sayyidina Isma’il (as) was teaching the body of Islam, teaching Sayyidina Ibrahim (as) and said, ‘Don’t worry, everything will be okay’ because he sees. With the yaqeen of certainty, he sees that Allah (AJ) will be giving a qurban (sacrifice).
37:102 – “Falamma balagha ma’ahus sa’ya qala ya bunayya inni ara fee almanami annee adhbahuka fanzhur ma dha tara, Qala ya abati if’al ma tu maru, satajidunee inshaAllahu minas Sabireen.” (Surat As-Saffat)
“And when he reached with him [the age of] exertion, he said, “O my son, indeed I have seen in a dream that I [must] sacrifice you, so see what you think. He said, ‘O my father, do as you are commanded. You will find me, if Allah wills, one of the Patient/steadfast.’” (Those Who Set the Ranks, 37:102)
Your Journey in Tariqah is an Internal Path Through the Heart
Even if the path looks like it’s fire, keep walking, don’t worry. This is an immense reality and that path is tariqah. If anyone’s interested in external, they should go to different things, but the tariqah was not the path of external knowledges. It was the path of internal knowledges. They study their Hadith. They study the fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence), the ‘usool (principles). Okay, this is yeah, at the kindergarten level, but then they enter in and go underground into the heart, not above. They go into the heart, into the digging into the bad character, going through the inner work and inner cleansing to receive the treasures that Allah (AJ) has deposited within the heart of the servant.
We pray that Allah (AJ) give us a greater understanding of these haqqaiqs of hajj, the realities of hajj and these are eternal. This is not just a one-time event that you go and maybe one day, you get some money so you can go and run up and down and up and down the jamarat and throw your slippers at the jamarat. But this is a lifelong fight with shaitan and keeping with on the path and going into its internal realities is the tariqah. When you take away internal realities, it’s no longer the tariqah. It’s a group of halaqa of Hadith people. That they sit and they can do anything they want, but they don’t do internal work. Internal work, internal realities is the purpose of tariqah.
Subhana rabbika rabbal ‘izzati ‘amma yasifoon, wa salaamun ‘alal mursaleen, walhamdulillahi rabbil ‘aalameen. Bi hurmati Muhammad al-Mustafa ﷺ wa bi siri Surat al-Fatiha.
