Moving Through Realms – Lessons from Isra wal Miraj
From the Realities of Mawlana (Q) as taught by Shaykh Nurjan Mirahmadi

Atiullah wa atiur Rasul wa Ulil amre minkum.
4:59 – “…Atiullaha wa atiur Rasula wa Ulil amre minkum…” (Surat an-Nisa)
“…Obey Allah, obey the Messenger, and those in authority among you…” (The Women, 4:59)
Isra wal Miraj, the 27th of Rajab, is a Great Portal to the Heavens
Always a reminder for myself ana abdukal ‘ajeez, wa dayeef, wa miskin, wa zhalim, wa jahl, and but for the grace of Allah (AJ) that we’re still in existence. Alhamdulillah, for the holy month of Rajab and the immense realities of the holy night of the 27th and the reality of 2 and 7 as a gateway to the heavens and to bring to modern language for people. These are the realities of paradise portals; the same reason why shaitan (satan) is trying to make his satanic portals.
These are doorways into heavens. That Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ was granted the greatest portal. That the night of Isra wal Mi’raj (Night Journey and Ascension) is the journey from Madina to Jerusalem and from Baitul Maqdus (the Sanctified House in Jerusalem) up into the Heavenly Kingdom. Through Jacob’s Ladder, the ascension into the heavens and immense realities. So many realities within the reality of Isra wal Mi’raj and so many events that Prophet ﷺ brought for the nation.
Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ Was Granted Time Travel
That in the time of sadness and grief, Allah (AJ) granted a Divine nearness and called His beloved servant with his physicality to the Divinely Presence. Because of the immensity of its spirituality, many people say, ‘Oh, we have questions on this or questions on that.’ No, it was with the physicality.
The immensity is that how Allah (AJ) can take a physical being, traverse through all of the earths and heavens into His Divinely Presence and that that physical being can enter into that Divinely Presence without exploding, being destroyed. That’s the miracle of Isra wal Mi’raj, that Allah (AJ), through the physical personality of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ, brought to His Divinely Presence. At the end of the Mi’raj (ascension) when he returned ﷺ back home, Sitna Aisha (as) described as if his bed was still warm, that he never left.
Allah (AJ) Shows His Love for Prophet ﷺ With a Heavenly Dress and Steed
That this is an immense reality of time travel and these portals Allah (AJ) opened. That within a time and the speed of thought, Prophet ﷺ was called with physicality to enter into that dimension and access the heavenly kingdom. That Allah (AJ) sent for Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ, Sayyidina Jibreel (as) and Sayyidina Mikhael (as) – the archangels that entered into the physical realm. They dressed Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ with a heavenly dress to traverse these realities. They brought the jubba (robe) from paradise and dressed Prophet ﷺ, brought water from paradise for ablution and for washing so that he would wash from the heavenly oceans and realities and that he would be dressing with the khirqah (robe) and jubba of paradises. That Allah (AJ) had prepared a very special steed – what some people thought were like unicorns but what we call a buraq (noble mystical horse) that has a creature similar to that of a horse in nature but has a human head and was prepared specifically for this journey to traverse from Madinatul Munawwara (luminous city of Prophet ﷺ) to Baitul Maqdus (the Sanctified House in Jerusalem) and that Prophet ﷺ would be moving through those realms.
It means that at every step, we always go into the immense realities of each step. But for here to understand that how much Allah (AJ) loves His servant, loves the reality of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. For anyone whom they, with bad manners argue, that, ‘Why do you hold big events? Why do you hold very luxurious events? Why is the love of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ so important?’ is that we take our lesson and example from Allah (AJ). That Allah (AJ) gave to us how and an understanding of manners, that how much Allah (AJ) loves this reality of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. That when He calls him to His presence, doesn’t just say, ‘Kun faya koon and appear,’ but offers every type of tashrif (honour) of a majestic eloquence, like an invitation.
36:82 – “Innama AmruHu idha Arada shay an, an yaqola lahu kun faya koon.” (Surat YaSeen)
“His Command is when He Wills/Intends a thing, He says to it, “Be,” and it is!” (YaSeen, 36:82)
Allah (AJ) Shows Us Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ is an Honoured and Noble Guest
That, ‘I’m not just going to bring you into My Presence, but I want all of creation to know this love I have for you’. If anyone who stops and ponders that how Allah (AJ), the Creator of all creation, He sends a respect and He sends His two archangels to go and greet the servant. It’s different when we understand the mannerisms of kingdoms that you go to a king but when Allah (AJ) is showing this immense love, He sends an envoy to receive him, to wash him, to dress him, to clothe him and a heavenly limousine known as a buraq, as a steed.
This is a sign from Allah (AJ) to all whom are witnessing, the angels definitely, that what’s happening? That Allah (AJ) is preparing all of this majesty. This must be a very honoured and noble guest. All of creation was pounding on the doors of heavens, crying and asking that, ‘Let us enter into Your paradises, enter into Your heavens, enter into these dimensions.’ But for Allah’s (AJ) beloved servant, He sends an envoy to wash him, to dress him, to put him upon a comfortable heavenly steed like a limousine from paradises and to carry him in a noble fashion and noble way.
Allah (AJ) Shows Us What Real Tashrif Looks Like
It means Allah (AJ) is teaching for us that when you involve yourself with Muhammadun Rasulallah ﷺ, hold the highest of honour and the hold the highest level of tashrif, of respect and dignity. As Allah (AJ) respected and dignified the reality of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ, even if you live ten thousand lives and spend ten thousand wealths, it comes nothing in the comparison for the Creator of all creation, what He showed of love and respect to His beloved Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ.
So, there is no money that can be spent. There is no time and effort that could be spent that even comes close to the Majesty of Allah (AJ) and that’s what Allah (AJ) is showing. That when you say Muhammadun Rasulallah ﷺ, put the highest level of honour within your heart and do the best that you can do in representing that reality as Allah (AJ) is our example.
All Prophets Knew to Accept and Follow Prophet ﷺ
That’s the immensity that is not heard of and that’s why the hasad (jealousy). When shaitan (satan) enters into people, it’s shaitanic in envy that can’t stand that event. Shaitanic envy within somebody says, ‘Oh, that didn’t happen’ because the shaitan inside him is whispering to that person because it didn’t happen for Azazil. Whatever he thought he was going to achieve of honour and dignity, that wasn’t for him. That reality was for the presence of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. Then from Madinatul Munawwara, Prophet ﷺ is taken into Jerusalem.
In the presence of Jerusalem, 124,000 prophets (as) and messengers of Allah (AJ) whom received a message or risalat (prophecy) to be prophets (as), all in their spirituality manifesting to be present and witness the arrival of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ which is immense because Allah (AJ) has in Qur’an al Kareem describing that every time they were destined to be messengers and prophets (as) and saints, Allah (AJ) asked them that, ‘If he ﷺ comes within your time, you accept him and that you follow him’ establishing the risalat and the supremacy of the reality of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ so that those prophets (as) and messengers knew, ‘You are below the reality of Prophet ﷺ. Just for you to know that if at any time he comes, you’re not leading the prayer. You don’t have a rank compared to his rank.’ They said, ‘Bala (yes)’ and they accepted.
3:81 – “Wa iz akhazal laahu meesaaqan Nabiyyeena lamaaa aataitukum min Kitaabinw wa Hikmatin summa jaaa’akum Rasoolum musaddiqul limaa ma’akum latu’minunna bihee wa latansurunnah; qaala a’aqrartum wa akhaztum alaa zaalikum isree qaalooo aqrarnaa; qaala fashhadoo wa ana ma’akum minash shaahideen” (Surah ‘Ali-Imran)
“And when Allah (AJ) took the covenant of the Prophets: [saying], ‘Whatever I gave you of the Book and Wisdom. Then there comes to you a Messenger (Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)) confirming what is with you, you [must] believe in him and you and you [must] support him to be victorious.” [Allah (AJ)] said, “Do you agree and take upon that My covenant?” They answered: ‘We agree.’ Allah (AJ) said: ‘Then bear witness, and I will be with you among the witnesses.” (The Family of Imran, 3:81)
Every Prophet Performed Salah Behind Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ
That was a foretelling of the event of Jerusalem that when Prophet ﷺ arrived in Baitul Maqdus in Jerusalem, – Al-Aqsa, Masjid Al-Aqsa – that 124,000 prophets (as) and messengers of Allah (AJ) prepared to greet the arrival of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. Why? Because they represent their nations and when they prepare, they began their salah (daily prayer) and their prayer. They prayed in the form and in the fashion of our prayers in which they stood, they made their ruku’ (bowing), they made their sajdah (prostration) and attahiyat (sitting on knees during prayer) exactly as we prayed, they prayed behind Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. They finished their salah and in attahiyat, they gave their shahadah (testimony of faith). “Ashhadu an la ilaha illallahu, ashhadu anna Muhammadun Rasulallah. Assalamu ‘alayka ayyuhan Nabi”.
“All the best compliments and the prayers/praising and the pure/good things are for Allah. Peace and Blessings be upon you, O’ Prophet ﷺ! Peace be on us and on the righteous servants of Allah. I testify that there is no deity but Allah (AJ), and I testify that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is the servant and Messenger of Allah (AJ).”
All Religions Before Islam Were Imitations
It means at that time, they’re giving their real shahadah (testimony of faith). At that time, their prayer became real. Every prayer they prayed was an imitated prayer. Allah (AJ) wanted to bring them to the perfection of their faith because Allah’s (AJ) religion, when Allah (AJ) is saying, ‘The deen (religion) of Allah (AJ) is Islam,’ meaning what?
3:19 – “Innad deena ‘indAllahil Islam.” (Surat Ali-Imran)
“The religion with God is Islam [Submission]…” (Family of Imran, 3:19)
Everything before that was not the religion of Allah (AJ). Everything before that was an imitation for the arrival of the religion of Allah (AJ) which is the religion of the heavens which is The Lord’s Prayer. That’s why Allah (AJ) made them to make that prayer. ‘Thy kingdom come Thy will be done on Earth as it is in heaven.’ At that moment, the kingdom of Allah (AJ) with the king of Allah (AJ) is present and all the prophets (as) of Allah (AJ) prayed that prayer. They gave their shahadah to Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ and they entered into Islam and the deen (religion) and the purified religion of Allah (AJ). Every other was an imitation up until that point.
Through Isra wal Miraj, Allah (AJ) Granted Prophet ﷺ to Know Himself
It means, ‘Today I completed your faith’. It means whatever they had was of an imitation, a placeholder and with the arrival of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ because now Isra wal Mi’raj means that Prophet ﷺ is going now for his reality, his ma’rifah (gnosticism). That ﷺ is going to…Allah (AJ) wants to grant the reality of Prophet ﷺ to know about himself and his reality as all creation was waiting for that event because no creation is allowed to know about itself until Prophet ﷺ knows about his self and himself and his realities.
So, the physicality of Prophet ﷺ is granted on Isra wal Mi’raj, the ma’rifah and the door of gnosticism. That, ‘This gift I’m going to bring you to My Presence. This whole way is a way for you to know yourself, to know your identity,’ and that’s an immense reality.
Allah (AJ) Wanted Prophet ﷺ to Understand His Own Reality First
Anybody whom has travelled with awliya (saints), the understanding of tashrif (honour) for people to understand; an example, if there was a maqam (station) and there’s a shaykh at the maqam and you accompany a shaykh, you never enter into that maqam until the shaykh enters the maqam because that shaykh is waiting for the shaykh to enter in to grant his salaams (greetings). You don’t ever go in first to give your salaams. You have to know your position. You stay out and in the back.
So, the same is that Allah (AJ) not going to call His creatures to come and to know about their realities until His most purified beatific creature, most beatific creation is brought back into His Divinely Presence. As Prophet ﷺ is moving towards the knowledge of himself and what Allah (AJ) has dressed upon his reality all the way to the presence of “Qaaba qawsayni aw adna”.
53:9 – “Fakana qaaba qawsayni aw adna.” (Surat An-Najm)
“And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer [to the Divine Presence].” (The Star, 53:9)
Allah (AJ) is a Hidden Treasure Wanting to Be Known by Muhammadun RasulAllah ﷺ
Traverse all of paradises, the Lote tree, the furthest boundary, all of that to the presence in which Allah (AJ) describes in his physicality, he’s brought between two bow lengths or nearer. What kind of reality is that? That Prophet’s ﷺ physicality entered into an ocean of power which is just Divinely power. That place in which La ilaha illAllah is facing Muhammadun Rasulallah and Allah (AJ) brought the physical Muhammadun Rasulallah ﷺ to ‘Realize that reality. Realize the closeness. Realize what your reality represents to this entire ocean of creation and that I am a hidden treasure and I wanted to be known by you ﷺ’.
Qala Rasulallahi ﷺ, Qala Allah (AJ): “Kuntu kanzan makhfiyya, fa ahbabtu an a’rafa, fa khalaqtu khalqan, fa ‘arraftahum bi fa ‘arafonee.” [Hadith al Qudsi – Behar al Anwar, Al ‘Alama al Majlisi, Juz’ 84, Safha 199]
The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said, that Allah (AJ) said: “I was a hidden Treasure then I desired to be known, so I created a creation to which I made Myself known; then they knew Me.” [Holy Hadith – Bihar al Anwar, by Al ‘Alama al Majlisi, Volume 84, Page 199]
The Great Reality of Huwa
Immense. What we have the salawat al Huwa? You can see the book. Our salawat (praises upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ) book, inshaAllah. It’s Huwa. Where’s the salawat book? What page is it?
Audience: Page 90.
Shaykh Nurjan Mirahmadi: Okay, read the first two lines. Let me see if we go on the right page.
Audience:
(Allahu Allah, lama nadani Huwa
Fasirtu ‘abdan, mamlukan lahu Huwa) x 2
Khairil bariyah, nazhra ilayya
Ma anta illa, kanzul ‘atiyah
When Allah (AJ) called His beloved messenger, “Huwa” (the Heness). I (Muhammad (pbuh)) became the servant of the Lord Almighty, Owned by the Sovereign King of all creation, “Huwa” (the Unknown Essence of the Divine)
O the best of creation (Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)), gaze upon me, You are the treasure that Allah (AJ) has send as a blessing and Mercy to Creation
Shaykh Nurjan Mirahmadi: Allahuma salli wa sallim wa barik ‘alayhi wa ‘ala alih. This is the great reality of Huwa, the immense reality of Holy Qur’an in which Allah (AJ) “Qul HuwAllahu Ahad.”
112:1 – “Qul HuwAllahu Ahad.” (Surat Al-Ikhlas)
“Say (O’ Muhammad (pbuh), He, Allah (is) One!” (The Sincerity, 112:1)
That from that ocean of ikhlas (sincerity), that all of Qur’an is the dress of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. Each chapter we call a surah, a face that in which will be known. Allah (AJ) is hidden but Allah’s (AJ) Divinely Face is the face of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. The face of absolute sincerity is the reality of “Qaaba qawsayni aw adna” in which Allah (AJ) brought His servant all the way to the presence of and in the face of La ilaha illAllah and at that time that alif, laam, laam, ha of Allah (AJ) is then dressing the reality of Muhammadun Rasulallah ﷺ. From that hey to Hu, waw become Hu. From the Hu of Allah (AJ), it’s saying, “Qul Hu” and giving to Prophet ﷺ the immensities of these realities, the oceans and the dress of immense sincerities.
Allah (AJ) Commanded All Angels to Show Immense Respect to Prophet ﷺ
So, it means that it can’t be even imagined that how Allah (AJ) brought the physicality all the way through the heavens and paradises to be dressed from the realities of “Qaaba qawsayni aw adna”, from two both lengths or nearer to His Lord. The oceans of power that can’t be understood, a location that can’t be understood and Allah (AJ) dressed the reality upon His servant, the oceans of sincerity. All along the Mi’raj and all of the events and descriptions of the Mi’raj, that at every paradise, Allah (AJ) commanded all the angels of that paradise to come out; come out and greet Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ on the outside of their paradise. Again, showing the immense respect that, that when a noble guest comes, you don’t wait inside for the guest. You stay outside. That the angels are outside waiting and they will enter in with the king of all creation to witness the reality of that paradise, to the reality and this is a witnessing for his holy physicality.
That, ‘Look how much I love you that the sadness and grief that the Earth has been causing you, I would not have sent you there but your immense oceans of rahmah and mercy. As a result, look at every paradise. Every angel is out to greet you and as you enter into that paradise, every angel will describe the reality of that paradise. The reality of all its blessings and all of that for you, Sayyidi ya Rasulul Kareem (the most generous messenger), ya Habibul ‘Azim (The Magnificent Beloved)’. It means immensity of Isra wal Mi’raj and the immensity of sab’ah wa ‘ishrun (27 in Arabic), the reality of 2 and 7. That this is a gate that in the huroof (Arabic letters) the 2 is the ba and the 7 is zaat and the secret of the essence. But we teach huroof, people become confused. We stay with just the reality of the immensity of the gate, the immensity of Isra wal Mi’raj and the immensity of Allah (AJ).
Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ Traversed into the Nucleus to Open All Realities
The description of Isra wal Mi’raj, from Prophet ﷺ to the holy companions, was the gate of gnosticism. As a result of Prophet ﷺ revealing these realities, it opened the door to immense realities. As a result, it became like a door of gnosticism. That as soon as they heard just a hint of each of these realities, the heart expanded what Allah (AJ) wants to expand of its knowings. That of every knowledge and every reality, it’s overflowing abundance is the door of Isra wal Mi’raj.
That the piercing of this veils – if we could even just imagine the visual – it’s as if Prophet ﷺ is traversing these seven layers of an atom and the atom of all atoms. From his outermost reality, he’s traversing seven layers into the nucleus. As a result of going all the way into the nucleus of his reality, he created an opening for all realities.
Everyone’s Reality is Within Muhammadun RasulAllah ﷺ
That’s when we described our own personal ma’rifah (gnosticism) is you have to go through your seven names to the name that you have in Divinely Presence. As soon as you cut through these names, you’re creating a pathway. When you create a pathway all the way to the center, what happens? The flowing ocean of the center begins to flow through all seven rings are being filled with the knowledge from your reality. Now what about the one who holds all realities?
That’s the immensity is that Prophet ﷺ, he cut through all of these seven realities, seven names and seven heavens, enters into the nucleus of his Divinely reality and dresses all the oceans and all the firmaments and all the dimensions with the reality of Muhammadun Rasulallah ﷺ because everyone’s reality is within Muhammadun Rasulallah ﷺ. How could you know your reality before Prophet ﷺ opens his Divinely reality? So, that was an immense opening for all of creation to know their station, know their limits, know their reality. We pray that Allah (AJ) dress us from the immensities of these oceans.
Muhibbin are in Miraj Every Night
Alhamdulillah, they gave for us last night that this is an ocean of love and muhabbat. Those whom have good manners and good character, that they merely keep their good character, their love. Through that connection of love, the reality of Prophet ﷺ to dress them and bless them from the immensities of these oceans and these stations and these realities in which they cannot be achieved by any action.
The immensity for the entire nation is so great of what Allah (AJ) is dressing Isra wal Mi’raj because every moment is a flooding. Every moment, that reality is flooding all the dimensions from the Muhammadan haqqaiq (realities). Muhibbin (lovers of the way) and ‘ashiqeen (lovers), every night they’re in this Mi’raj. Every nasheed (song of praise) and majlis (association) of salli ‘alan Nabi ﷺ is an immense Mi’raj to the presence of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ.
Allah (AJ) Allows Us in the Presence of Prophet ﷺ When We Recite Durood Sharif Once
We said before this Islamic holiday is alhamdulillah, for common people, it’s a time that once in their daily life, they stop and recognize; stop and think and perchance, they may be dressed by something. But ‘ashiqeen, their whole teaching and love is the Mi’raj. At every moment, you meditate. Every moment, you do a nasheed, a salawat. When you say, “Allahumma salli ‘ala Sayyidina Muhammadin wa ‘ala aali Sayyidina Muhammad”, what Prophet ﷺ promised? ‘Allah (AJ) will allow my soul to come to you’ but the adab (maners) is not nice to say that.
“Allahumma salli ‘ala Sayyidina Muhammadin wa ‘ala aali Sayyidina Muhammadin wa Sallim.”
“O Allah! Send Peace and blessings upon our master Prophet Muhammad and upon the Family of our master Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)”
The adab is Allah (AJ) will allow you to be in the presence of Prophet ﷺ with one durood sharif (praising on Prophet ﷺ).
Qala Rasulullah (saws): “Man Salla `alaiya Salatan wahidatan, Sallallahu `alayhi `ashra Salawatin, wa Huttat `anhu `ashru khaTeatin, wa ruf`at lahu `ashru darajatin.”
Prophet Muhammad (saws) said: “Whoever sends blessings [Praises] upon me, God will shower His blessings upon him ten times, and will erase ten of his sins, and elevate [raise] his [spiritual] station ten times.” [Hadith recorded by Nasa’i]
‘Ashiqeen are Constantly Being Dressed by Oceans of Realities
So, imagine when the shaykhs are giving awrads (daily practice), that do 1000, 5000, 10000. Don’t leave the presence of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ; your arwah, your soul always to be in that presence. ‘Sayyidi ya Rasulul Kareem, I’m nothing and I’m not worth it, but you gave me this door and I make my durood. I make my salawats.’ They’re in a continuous Mi’raj and a continuous dress and a continuous movement at the speed of thought. That’s why their dress and the significance of their dress is something that common people who may stop once a year to just think of Isra wal Mi’raj and that they’re going to draw near to Allah (AJ).
It’s not comparable because they just sit for a little bit of…what is when the rain comes little by little? Not even very stormy and they get a little bit wet, they think it’s fantastic. ‘Ashiqeen, at every moment you’re doing your awrad and making salawats, you’re in a Mi’raj being dressed by oceans and firmaments of reality because you’re drawing near to the one whom we’re describing these realities. It can’t be compared, it can’t be understood. It’s Baab ur Rahmah (the Gate of Mercy) and the immensity for ‘ashiqeen is that every moment they’re being dressed by these things.
Every Moment is a Mi’raj for the Believer
So, people whom specifically bring themselves up for immensely powerful particular night, don’t be fooled by that. Every night is an Isra wal Mi’raj. Every night is the ishq of Prophet ﷺ. Do your awrad. You want a Mi’raj, very simple…you like this, this [prayer beads] is now your buraq. Say, “Allahumma salli ‘ala Sayyidina Muhammadin wa ‘ala aali Sayyidina Muhammad”, connect your heart. “Allahuma salli wa sallim wa barik ‘ala Sayyidina Muhammad wa ‘ala aali Sayyidina Muhammad.” Your soul is moving into the presence of Prophet ﷺ and then you begin to feel that love and feel that ishq and feel that dress.
At every moment, you’re being dressed and every moment is a Mi’raj for the believer. They just have to know where they’re going. That’s why it’s important to teach the love of Prophet ﷺ because how could you have a Mi’raj thinking you’re going to Allah (AJ)? It means you’ve put Prophet ﷺ on some here and you’re going beyond that, like you’re going in front. It’s the adab that Allah (AJ) looking at you and like ‘You’ve lost your mind. What are you thinking? Go back behind your Rasul and that your Mi’raj is to Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ’. That the Mi’raj of Prophet ﷺ is continuously moving into Divinely Presence, into Allah’s (AJ) immense realities. We pray that Allah (AJ) give us more and more understanding, more and more ishq and love for that Divinely reality, inshaAllah.
Subhana rabbika rabbal ‘izzati ‘amma yasifoon, wa salaamun ‘alal mursaleen, walhamdulillahi rabbil ‘aalameen. Bi hurmati Muhammad al-Mustafa wa bi siri Surat al-Fatiha.
