Allah Shows Greatness of Prophet ﷺ with Isra wal Miraj (Night of Ascension)
THE NIGHT OF ASCENSION
ALLAH (AJ) SHOWS THE GREATNESS OF PROPHET MUHAMMAD ﷺ
IN ISRA WAL MIRAJ
From the Realities of Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani (ق) as taught by Shaykh Nurjan Mirahmadi.
Audhu Billahi Min ash shaytanir Rajeem
Bismillah ir Rahman ir Raheem
I seek refuge in Allah from Satan, the rejected one
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Allah is Honoring Prophet ﷺ with Isra wal Miraj
Alhamdulillah, we are approaching holy days of Isra wal Miraj. That is a time of which Prophet ﷺ after much tribulations, much hardship and difficulties in life, was granted Divinely Audience. After many difficulties, Prophet ﷺ was crying. He had faced tremendous hardship in life. Even the children of Tayef (village in Saudi Arabia) were throwing rocks at him. And many hardships in life, as his wife Sayyidatina Khadija tul Kubra (as) had just passed away. Even after that event, he went home and was heartbroken and crying. Allah (AJ) granted him Isra wal Miraj (Night of Ascension) and called him to His Divinely Presence and called the Prophet ﷺ with his physicality. His physicality was taken and the angels appeared, washed him with the waters of the heaven and dressed him with the dress of the heavens. They brought him a holy Buraq (holy creature) for him to ride. As Prophet ﷺ mounted that Buraq, then from Makkah they moved to Masjid al Aqsa in Jerusalem.
17:1 – “Subhaanal lazeee asraa bi’abdihee lailam minal Masjidil Haraami ilal Masjidil Aqsal-lazee baaraknaa haw lahoo linuriyahoo min aayaatinaa;innahoo Huwas Samee’ul-Baseer.”
“Exalted is He who took His Servant by night from al-Masjid al-Haram to al-Masjid al- Aqsa, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Seeing.” (Surat Al-Isra, 17:1)
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ Led All Prophets in Prayer
At Masjid al Aqsa, Prophet ﷺ describes seeing all the prophets and that he was the imam (leader) of them, leading them in prayer. From Masjid al Aqsa, Jacob’s (as) ladder appeared and through that ladder he ﷺ began to ascent with the Buraq into the heavens. In each heaven, the angels were waiting to describe and show Prophet ﷺ what Allah has made of that heaven, its reality, its purpose, its blessings, and its secrets. All angels lined up on each paradise coming out to show their love for Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ and to show their love for Divinely Presence.
This is the history that many are familiar with and Mawlana Shaykh teaching for us that when we hear these realities and understanding, there is a deeper understanding that the honoring of someone is a way in which to express our love for them. The Divinely Presence wants to show to us that, I could have called him ﷺ to my Divinely Presence within a blink of an eye. When Allah (AJ) wants something, he doesn’t need to go through any formalities. He merely كُنْ فَيَكُوْنُ Kun Fa yakun (“Be“ and it Is), requests and you will be right in front of Allah (AJ) without any intermediary and without any questioning.
36:82 – “Innama AmruHu idha Arada shay an, an yaqola lahu kun faya koon.” (Surat YaSeen)
“His Command is when He Wills/Intends a thing, He says to it, “Be,” and it is!” (YaSeen, 36:82)
Allah (AJ) Wanted to Show Us the Greatness of Prophet ﷺ
Allah (AJ) is showing for us that “I want to show my honor for Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ”. Not that Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ showing his honor for Allah (AJ). On this event Allah (AJ) is showing His honor for Prophet ﷺ. That I am going to decorate all My creation for the arrival of this blessed Prophet ﷺ. I am going to call upon the Buraq and bejewel that creature. When you love someone, you send for them a limousine; to show your ihtiram (respect). Not because that person needs it. That is the wrong intention. You think you are going to send something or do something and that person needs it. But Allah (AJ) is saying ‘No, I wanted to show my respect for Prophet ﷺ.` He ﷺ is not in need of it; he is khuluq ul Azim (best of characters). Prophet ﷺ is the creation of humility and the reality of humility. But Allah (AJ) wants to show is my love, my ihtiram, my respect, for Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ.
68:4 – “Wa innaka la’ala khuluqin ‘azheem.” (Surat Al-Qalam)
“Truly, You (O Muhammad!) are of a magnificent character.” (The Pen, 68:4)
Allah (AJ) calls to all the angels to stand at your post. Every angel now at their medallions, like in the army, they are already marching, and waiting for the arrival of Prophet ﷺ. Then Allah (AJ) sends His heavenly creatures and tells them; Now go and wash Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. Bring him the dress of honor, the dress of light, and bring him from our paradise realities. Go and take Prophet ﷺ, wash him, and bring him on our holy creature to our Divinely presence. So, he doesn’t even have to move.
Isra wal Mìraj (Night of Ascension) Shows Allah’s (AJ) Ihtiram (Respect) and Love for Prophet ﷺ
That even his feet don’t move; and I will give him a creature and adorn that creature because my beloved one is riding up of that reality. That every paradise must stand at attention, and every paradise must show all its realities, all its lights and blessings. Not because of Allah (AJ), but because to show the greatness of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ
3:31 – “Qul in kuntum tuhibbon Allaha fattabi’oni, yuhbibkumullahu wa yaghfir lakum dhunobakum wallahu Ghaforur Raheem.” (Surat Al-Imran)
“Say, [O Muhammad], “If you should love Allah, then follow me, [so] Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.” (Family of Imran, 3:31)
Prophet ﷺ Does Not Need Anything From Us
That is why awliyullah (saints) are coming to our lives to teach us that; don`t think for a moment that Prophet ﷺ needs anything from us. Already, Allah (AJ) has shown him that love and that respect. That you are my Habib and that all this creation is for you. All these angels and all these realities are for you. We are in need to show our love for the prophetic reality. They begin to teach us that everything that we are doing is based on that reality. Anytime we show ihtiram (respect) and anytime we do good to Allah`s creation, it is not for that creation. It is that we needed to show that. Wrong intention is to think that, that person needs to be respected and I am going to respect them. No, we need to respect them; just to show ourselves and to show Allah (AJ) that we are humble creation, we are thankful creation, and we are loving creation. Ya Rabbi we love your creation. By showing that respect, that humility, and good character, Allah (AJ) then appreciates our good character because Allah (AJ) is the example of that. “That I am not in need to show anything, but what I want all creatures to know the greatness of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. I am going to show my ihtiram.”
We Must Respect Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ
Then when you debate in the physical world; should we show respect to Prophet ﷺ? They are crazy and they are sick in their mind. How could you not show respect for a Prophet of the Divine? Love, respect, adorned, put flowers, and every imaginable thing because Allah (AJ) says: I did that. “I send my Buraq, I send all the angels with all their lights and all their magnificence; I adorned everything on that holy path for the arrival of my beloved.” This is teaching us if you really love something in life, then you do the same as I did; to show all creation my love for the Prophet ﷺ.” What do you think the angels thought at that time of what Allah (AJ) loves? This is the most beloved of Allah (AJ) coming to our Divinely presence. At that time each angel stood at attention and described their paradise and its entire realities. Then Allah (AJ) says: Why? So, that angel would know who is coming before you. “I call all my creation in attention for the arrival of that beloved one. You show respect and ihtiram (respect) because you need it.”
It is Our Duty to Respect All of Creation
Then awliyullah (saints) are coming to our lives to teach us that in this filthy dunya (material World) that Allah doesn`t have a value of a mosquito’s wing in caring for this dunya. They come to debate whether we show respect for the prophets. That whether we should honor their (Prophets)’ birthdays and circumambulate their realities in our lives. They have the audacity to debate that; because they don’t sit for a moment to think. Our whole life is about tafakkur (contemplation). If Divinely Presence shows that much love and respect for creation, what does Allah (AJ) want from us in life? Just the praying, the fasting, and all the physical actions? If the physical actions are done and they don’t open a heart that contemplates, then what is the purpose of it? It means everything that we are doing, we are praying, fasting, giving charity; we are doing all those so one day our heart opens. And we say, Oh my God, Ya Rabbi (Oh My Lord), You have created this creation out of love and it is my duty to respect Your creation. Not because that creation requires it but I need it. So, when I feel an ant, not to kill it with my foot and not because the ant needed but, I needed to show Allah (AJ) my respect for His creation. Don’t say, no the ant was getting on my way and I crashed it. No you can go to jahannam (hellfire) for it. Allah (AJ) says no, that (ant) I created and every time you show respect to My creation, you are showing respect to Me.
Prophet ﷺ said: “Adabana Rabi fe Ahsanu ta deebee“, that all God sent me for is the perfection of my manners.
Adabana Rabi fe Ahsanu ta deebee
“I was given the best of manners and adab from Allah (swt).”
All the Teachings of All Prophets is the Perfection of Manners
All the prophets came to teach us respect life, respect yourself, and have the best of manners. The best manner is to respect the creation, love the creation, and show good character. Not because they needed but because I needed. I need in my book, for my God to see that I respect His creation, that I love his creation, and I love whom He loves. Imagine that with that good character, a night comes which praising the Divine Presence, praising the prophetic realities, praising the light and birthdays of all the prophets. We have that good character. Immediately, it ignites that even to go more out of our way for the love of that reality. Everything is based on love.
Many people think that they do what they do because the one receiving it needs it. That is incorrect; we need to do to show our good character to Allah (AJ). Not that the one receiving it needs it; the Prophet ﷺ or the awliyullah (saints). No they don’t need it because Allah (AJ) shows His love for them. But we are in need in our lives and want to show our respect for the creation.
These days that are opening are the days that nobody respects the creation. Allah’s divinely creation that He created out of love is being ripped apart and being destroyed with not even a thought; even less than a thought. We pray that Allah (AJ) grant in our hearts love for the Divine Presence, the love of whom He love, the love of all the prophets, and most of all the love of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. With that love and that great respect,
33:56 – “InnAllaha wa malayikatahu yusalluna ‘alan Nabiyi yaa ayyuhal ladhina aamanu sallu ‘alayhi wa sallimu taslima.”
(Surat Al-Ahzab)
“Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet [Muhammad (ﷺ)]: O you that believe! Send your blessings upon him, and salute him with all respect.” (The Combined Forces, 33:56)
