Reach Hajj After a Year’s Journey Towards the Divine
From the Realities of Mawlana (Q) as taught by Shaykh Nurjan Mirahmadi.
أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ
A’uzu Billahi Minash Shaitanir Rajeem
Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan
In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
Alhamdulillahi Rabbil ‘aalameen, was salaatu was salaamu ‘alaa Ashrafil Mursaleen, Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammadul Mustafa ﷺ.
Always a reminder for myself, ana abdukal ‘ajeez, wa dayeef, wa miskin, wa zhalim, wa jahl, and but for the grace of Allah (AJ) that we’re still in existence.
أَطِيعُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُوا الرَّسُولَ وَأُولِي الْأَمْرِ مِنكُم… ﴿٥٩﴾ …
4:59 – “…Atiullaha wa atiur Rasula wa Ulil amre minkum…” (Surat an-Nisa)
“…Obey Allah, obey the Messenger, and those in authority among you…” (The Women, 4:59)
Prepare for the Divine Journey of Dhul Hajj
Alhamdulillah, that Allah (AJ) gave us a life, inshaAllah, to which to see the opening of the holy month of Dhul Hajj. InshaAllah, coming in Sunday, Monday, depending upon when they call for the hajj (pilgrimage). InshaAllah, Allah (AJ) dress us from its realities, bless us from its realities; ten of the holiest days of our year long journey into Divinely Presence and the reality of completion.
The journey of completion in which it’s a journey towards the Divinely Presence, completing the one year of moving into that reality and dressing and asking Allah (AJ) to dress us and bless us. Each of the tajallis (manifestations) of each month to dress us and bless us into the depth and the heart of Divine realities, into the heart of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ.
Purify Your Inner and Outer Condition to Meet the Reality of Hajj
Alhamdulillah, that Allah (AJ) dress the reality of the hajj (pilgrimage). That the heart is the Ka’bah and that everything that we’re asking to do on the outside, Allah (AJ) reminding us that the greater reality lies within the servant. As an external reminder for all creation, they look towards the outside goal and ask that one day, ‘Ya Rabbi, prepare us to be able to make our hajj, the physical hajj.’ As a result of having such a coordinance, then the servant will busy themselves in the preparation for the hajj.
That the reason the usool (principles) is there is to give somebody a point of reference. That our religion, our path requires that we try. If Allah (AJ) gives us a mean to…means in which to make the hajj. So, then our life is in preparation for that hajj. That I want to go to the holy house. I want to go to the holy locations. I want to go through all of the rituals of hajj. It’s supposed to motivate the servants to prepare themself, to purify themselves, to prepare their inner condition, outer condition to the extent of their belief and understanding.
Allah (AJ) Honoured Creation By Building His House Within Our Hearts
Allah’s (AJ) great ni’mat, great blessings, great gift is when He teaches the servant and guides them towards the turuqs and spiritual path in which they open for us an understanding that the greater hajj (pilgrimage) is inside. The greatest hajj is within the Ka’bah that lies within the chest of mankind, the house of Allah (AJ) in which Allah (AJ) built. The external house in which men put together, the bricks and stones and Allah (AJ) sanctified that house with al-Hajar al Aswad (The Black Stone), a heavenly stone from paradise and its depth of its reality.
But the house in which Allah (AJ) built and continues to build every time a creation of Bani Adam (Children of Adam) is created and brought into existence, Allah (AJ) built that house. Allah (AJ) built the reality by His two Divinely Hands. His qudra and His power built the heart of that servant and within that servant Allah (AJ) blew from His Divinely power and gave that servant life.
﴾فَإِذَا سَوَّيْتُهُ وَنَفَخْتُ فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِي ﴿٧٢
38:72 – “Fa idha sawwaytuhu wa nafakhtu feehi min Rohee…” (Surat Sad)
“So when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul/spirit…” (Saad, 38:72)
The immensity of that hajj and the immensity of that Ka’bah is nowhere in comparison; nowhere in comparison to the external form. That which Allah (AJ) created from His two Hands and “Wa laqad karramna bani adam” that Allah (AJ), from ayatul kareem (the generous verse of Holy Qur’an), describes that ‘We have honoured your creation, the creation of Adam and Eve.’
﴾وَلَقَدْ كَرَّمْنَا بَنِي آدَمَ…﴿٧٠
17:70 – “Wa laqad karramna bani adama…” (Surat Al-Isra)
“And We have certainly honored the children of Adam…” (The Night Journey, 17:70)
Make Intention in Muharram to Make Hajj in Dhul Hijjah
Because of that honour is the understanding is that Allah (AJ) is fashioning the heart of that servant, the entire being of that servant. Allah (AJ) breathes into from a Divine breath to give that servant life. That is something that you can’t even compare. That this is one that Allah (AJ) made and breathed into it, gave it a Divine gift of life and the immensity of what it’s able to achieve. Then the turuqs (spiritual paths) come and teach: then perform your inner Ka’bah, your inner hajj. Your whole life is and that’s why every year in Muharram is the beginning we step with our right foot asking, ‘Ya Rabbi, this is my hijrah (migration) towards your Divine presence. If I should have a life in which to reach the last and the twelfth month, the month of hajj, alhamdulillah. Even if I don’t, I’m making intention to reach to that reality.’
Then that becomes a whole inner path of preparing for the hajj (pilgrimage). The Muharram is that I want in that year, ya Rabbi, to live a life of no haram (forbidden), no badness, no things that to oppose You and come against what You are in favour of and let my life to be clean so that I begin the preparation of my inner Ka’bah, my inner reality. That your Divinely Presence to reside within my heart. We said that with the outside Ka’bah, what makes the Ka’bah holy, are not the bricks. But that has to do with the reality of the soul of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ which is present in that Ka’bah.
Nabiyeen, Siddiqeen, Shuhadah and Saliheen are in Prophet’s ﷺ Presence (Holy Qur’an, 4:69)
That the arwah (souls) and just the reality from the soul of Prophet ﷺ is located in the physical Ka’bah. As a result, nabiyeen (Prophets), all nabiyeen are coming with Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. “…Siddiqeen, Shuhadayi was Saliheen,” all…all the souls whom Allah (AJ) gave that rank and those titles, they all want to be with Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. So, the reality of the physical hajj is a hijrah (migration). That all these souls are asking in the time of Dhul Hajj that, ‘Ya Rabbi, let our souls to be with our most beloved. Let our souls to be in the presence of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ in the holy precincts, in the presence of that reality.’
As a result of the soul of Prophet ﷺ in Makkah and in the Ka’bah, in the reality of the “Nabiyeen, Siddiqeen, Shuhadayi was Saliheen,” as a result of that holiness that Allah (AJ) will bring every Dhul Hajj, He ordered mankind to come to take the benefit of that association; the benefit of that eternal reality that has happened from all of eternity. It’s not because they’re coming. It’s because the souls of those pious people are there. Allah (AJ) then ordered for all others, ‘Make your hajj’ for if one day you should be able to enter into those precincts, into that reality that you’ll be dressed by the soul of “Nabiyeen, Siddiqeen, Shuhadayi was Saliheen.” Allah (AJ) says, ‘This is the best of company and Allah’s (AJ) Divinely lights are with them.’
4:69 – “Wa man yuti’ Allaha war Rasola faolayeka ma’al ladheena an’ama Allahu ‘alayhim minan Nabiyeena, was Siddiqeena, wash Shuhadayi, was Saliheena wa hasuna olayeka rafeeqan.” (Surat An-Nisa)
“And whoever obeys Allah and the Messenger (pbuh) are in the company of those on whom Allah has bestowed His Favours/Blessings – of the Prophets, the sincere Truthful, the Martyrs/Witnesses to the truth (who testify), and the Righteous, and excellent are those as companions.” (The Women, 4:69)
Allah (AJ) Doesn’t Hide Blessings, But Wishes Them Upon Us
As a result of the barakah (blessing) of that center, Allah (AJ) asking for all of creation, ‘Come. Come to that reality to be dressed by that, to be blessed by that.’ Allah (AJ) continues. That’s why we started by saying that this is a ni’mat (blessing). Allah (AJ) wants more than anything that we always seek out immense blessings.
Allah (AJ) doesn’t want to hide these blessings. As a result of that reality, Allah’s (AJ) inspiring, ‘Go. Go for the hajj. Go for this blessing. That this souls you don’t understand what they’re going to be dressed with, what I’m going to be blessing them with.’ (Holy Qur’an, 4:69)
Hajj is Not About the Physical Acts, But the Realities Dressing You
As soon as hujjaj (pilgrims) enter into these areas, they’re being dressed by the lights; not by the activities that they’re doing; not you going seven times, you made Allah (AJ) so miraculously happy that you’ve gone seven circles better than anyone can go seven circles. It’s like people think they’ve got a big accomplishment. Now they go with the go-kart back and forth through Safa and Marwah ‘Woo, woo, woo’ [go-cart moving sounds] back and forth [Shaykh laughs].
This not our action. It’s not the action that we’re achieving something in hajj (pilgrimage), but what Allah (AJ) is sending of realities there. Allah (AJ) is then teaching then, ‘Go. Go seven times so that each time you go, Nabiyeen, Siddiqeen, Shuhadayi was Saliheen, they dress you from your reality.’ What those realities are of every layer of what they’re achieving? What’s the reality of the Safa and Marwah and opening of the Divine fountains of inspirations and realities within the heart?
Start By Imitating to Move Towards Your Reality
All the Jamarat (three stone pillars), all the things that we’ve talked about and we have in the book ‘The Secrets of Hajj.’ All of those because of the blessings and the immense realities, Allah (AJ) then gives us, ‘Go and imitate.’ Turuqs come and teach us that: we are merely imitating.
That’s why we start off by saying ‘Ana abdukal ‘ajeezu, dayeefu, miskinu, zhalim, wa jahl. That, ya Rabbi, I’m nothing and just by my active imitation and because of the act of love that I have for this reality, dress me. Dress me and bless me from this reality, not for anything I think I am or anything I think I’ve done or I’ve accomplished. I’ve accomplished nothing, ya Rabbi. I’m asking only for my love for the love of Your Divinely Presence, love of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. I’m imitating my shaykhs and my teachers who have taught me.’ As a result of moving with that imitation, Allah (AJ) dresses and blesses from this realities and it’s haqqaiqs; not from what we think we achieve with our frail and small physicality.
Tariqah Inspires Us to Meet Our Potential and Reach Our Reality
Then the inner reality, imagine. If that’s the haqqaiqs (realities) or understanding, some of the understandings of the realities of the external, imagine then what insan (mankind) is capable of as a gift from Divinely Presence. When they take up the tariqahs (spiritual path) and Allah (AJ) inspire them to take your path serious. Take your path with all its realities and every…everything that you want to accomplish, one day you may figure out after 20 years or 15 years of accompanying these people of what this reality truly is.
Did you take advantage of that 10 years, 15 years, some 25 years, some 30 years people have accompanied shaykhs? Did you take advantage of these realities? Then one day, it comes to them the understandings of those realities. For insan (mankind) to accomplish what Allah (AJ) wants them to accomplish, it means their heart become filled with the reality of the love of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ.
Awliyaullah Only Seek the Truth With Immense Love of Prophet ﷺ
That’s why we’re saying now the heart is much more powerful than the external Ka’bah, the heart in which Allah (AJ) built. When awliyaullah (saints) begin to fill your heart with the love of nabiyeen (prophets), then they fill your heart with the love of siddiqeen (truthful). They fill your heart with love of shuhada (witnesses) and Allah (AJ) allow them to make you from saliheen (righteous). That Allah (AJ) raise the status of that servant because they have the immense love of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ.
They have the immense love of all the Siddiqs, all the truthful servants whom are truthful with their deed and with their actions. Allah (AJ) made their whole life to be surrounded by shuhada, the people of mushahadah, whom their hearts are open. They can’t sit and they can’t stand anyone whose heart is not open. That’s why they don’t listen to other people. They don’t watch other shows. They don’t read other people’s books. If whatever that person is teaching and their heart didn’t open, well, if it didn’t work for them, what it’s going to work for me? Just wasting my time.
Your Small, Sincere Actions Raise You to Be Saliheen
So, this ni’mat and blessing that Allah (AJ) gave, that eat from the table of those whom their hearts are open because they have this category of the love of nabiyeen (prophets), love of siddiqeen (truthful), love of shuhada (witnesses). As a result of being with open-hearted people, they’re taught ilm e Laduni wa hikmati bis Saliheen (Divinely Knowledge and Wisdom of the Righteous).
As a result of the knowledge and the food they eat of wisdoms of haqqaiqs, no doubt the knowledge enters into their soul. Their small, but sincere actions raise their status to be saliheen. Allah (AJ), inshaAllah, dress them to be saliheen. As a result, their hearts are being dressed by the reflection of that reality. So, then when we understood awliyaullah, they are the reflections of the Ka’bah. They are the walking living Ka’bahs upon this Earth. That their heart is filled with that reality of the holy Ka’bah.
Make Your Intention for Hajj Regardless of Your Current Condition
We say, ‘What makes that Ka’bah holy on Dhul Hajj?’ It’s the presence of nabiyeen (prophets) and because of that, all siddiqeen (truthful) are coming, all shuhada (witnesses) are going, all saliheen (righteous) are present. 124,000 of each of those categories are present in the Ka’bah. That’s why Dhul Hajj becomes holy because the immensity of the lights and these lights then, “Mubashshiran,” are dressing anyone who’s in that vicinity or even flew in for that intention or from a distance made that intention.
That’s why they teach us: make your intention for Dhul Hajj regardless if you’re physically going to be there or not. That we’re intending to make hajj this year and everyone is intending. We made intention for 12 months to reach to this hajj. We didn’t make the intention last week. We made the intention in Muharram, ‘Give us the twelve months, ya Rabbi, of a hijrah into your Divinely Presence.’ We’ve been walking through this desert for 12 months into this haqqaiq so that to be dressed from that.
Awliyaullah are the Living Qibla on Earth, Providing Us Direction
So, awliyaullah (saints) are the living Ka’bah. That’s why they are called ‘Ka’bahs’ and ‘Qibla.’ ‘Qibla’ (direction of prayer) because you don’t pray to them, but when you accompany them, follow them, listen to them, learn from them, they give you a sense of purpose and direction in your religion. Without it, you have no idea where’s Allah (AJ), where’s Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. You’ll be spinning in a desert, not understanding where you’re headed to.
As a result, they are a very firm direction. They are representation of Allah’s (AJ) Divinely Presence and the love and presence of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. As a result of that love, nabiyeen (prophets) are in their heart. Siddiqeen (truthful) are in their heart. Shuhada (witnesses) in their heart giving faiz (downpouring blessings) and direction to them. Saliheen (righteous) are all around them. The arwah (souls) of saliheen are continuously accompanying them. As a result of that, they are the realities of the Ka’bah. They are the walking and living Ka’bahs upon this Earth and which Allah (AJ), by means of their souls, send blessings and dressings and immense illuminations and lights upon this Earth.
Tariqah is the Soul of Islam
That’s why they describe that Allah (AJ), through this reality, keeps the deen (religion) alive. Through the reality of these awliyaullah (saints), it keeps Islam alive, keeps Islam fresh and continuously rejuvenating the soul because tariqahs (spiritual paths) are the soul of Islam. Islam is merely the body but the tariqah is the faith and the soul of Islam. The two together, if we follow the turuqs, they open for us Maqamul Ihsan (Station of Moral Excellence) and the stations of perfection.
We pray that Allah (AJ) to dress us from these holy nights and prepare us for the arrival of Dhul Hajj. That we waited 12 months to get to its door and to its threshold. May Allah (AJ) complete His ni’mat (blessings) for this year upon our souls, upon our family and our communities for the sake of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ, for the sake of all Ahlul Bayt (holy family of Prophet ﷺ), for the sake of all Ashab an Nabi ﷺ (holy companions of Prophet ﷺ), for the sake of all awliyaullah fis samayi wa fil ard (in the heavens and on earth), ya Rabbi.
Subhana rabbika rabbal ‘izzati ‘amma yasifoon, wa salaamun ‘alal mursaleen, walhamdulillahi rabbil ‘aalameen. Bi hurmati Muhammad al-Mustafa ﷺ wa bi siri Surat al-Fatiha.
