Immense Power of Durood Sharif Against Satan and Nafs (Ego)
From the Realities of Mawlana (Q) as taught by Shaykh Nurjan Mirahmadi
A’uzu Billahi Minash Shaitanir Rajeem
Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem
I seek refuge in Allah (AJ) from the accursed Satan
In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
Alhamdulillahi Rabbil ‘aalameen, was salaatu was salaamu ‘alaa Ashrafil Mursaleen, Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammadul Mustafa ﷺ.
Always a reminder for myself, ana abdukal ‘ajeez, wa dayeef, wa miskin, wa zhalim, wa jahl, and but for the grace of Allah (AJ) that we’re still in existence.
4:59 – “…Atiullaha wa atiur Rasula wa Ulil amre minkum…” (Surat an-Nisa)
“…Obey Allah, obey the Messenger, and those in authority among you…” (The Women, 4:59)
Rabi’ul Awwal and the Secrets of TaSeen – The Divinely Fire
Alhamdulillah that Allah (AJ) granted us to enter in the holy month of Rabi’ul Awwal and the birth month of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. The immense realities of this birth of light and our existence. “TaSeen; tilka ayatul Qur’an wal Kitab al Mubeen.”
27:1 – “Taa-Seeen; tilka Aayaatul Qur-aani wa Kitaabim Mubeen.” (Surat al-Naml)
“Taa-Seen, These are verses of the Qur’an, and a Clear Book.” (The Ant, 27:1)
That alhamdulillah for the hearts of awliyaullah (saints) coming and emitting from the heart of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ the immense purities of the reality of that Divine fire. In which all whom are around it and enter it become blessed by the virtue of the presence and the reality of that fire.
27:8 – “Falammaa jaaa’ahaa noodiya am boorika man finnnnaari wa man hawlahaa wa Subhaanal laahi Rabbil ‘aalameen.” (Surah An-Naml)
But when he came to the (fire), he was called: “Blessed is whoever is at the fire and whoever is around it: and glory to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.” (The Ant, 27:8)
That fire is the heart of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. The location in which the Holy Qur’an is transmitting and emitting. That this is the Holy Speech of Allah’s (AJ) Divinely Presence. Something that can’t be understood, can’t be fathomed but to know that it is immensely blessed.
What Other Nations Struggled for, the Muhammadan Nation Reaches with One Salawat
Allah (AJ) made it a great struggle for all other nations. But for the nation of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ it is but one salawat (praises upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ) away. As soon as we mention “Allahumma salli ‘ala Sayyidina Muhammadin wa ‘ala aali Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ” Allah (AJ) sends our soul into the immense reality and the reality is transmitting 10 lights back to us in a dimension in which there is no time. The world of light has no time. So Prophet ﷺ teaching that, ‘Soon as you greet me once, Allah (AJ) allows my soul to greet you 10 times.’
“Allahumma salli ‘ala Sayyidina Muhammadin wa ‘ala aali Sayyidina Muhammadin wa Sallim.”
“O Allah! Send Peace and blessings upon our master Prophet Muhammad and upon the Family of our master Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)”
Qala Rasulullah (saws): “Man Salla `alaiya Salatan wahidatan, Sallallahu `alayhi `ashra Salawatin, wa Huttat `anhu `ashru khaTeatin, wa ruf`at lahu `ashru darajatin.”
Anas ibn Malik narrated that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: “Whoever sends blessings [Praises] upon me, God will shower His blessings upon him ten times, and will erase ten of his sins, and elevate [raise] his [spiritual] station ten times.” [Hadith recorded by Nasa’i]
Entering the Presence of That Divinely Fire Through Salawat
This fire is greeting you because now we’re understanding what that salawat from Prophet ﷺ to us is. As Nabi Musa (as) was trying to achieve that and in one audience he entered into that flame. That flame gave nine immense miracles that brought down the entire fir’aunic kingdom. One audience!
Allah (AJ) gives to us anybody whom wishes to be in the presence of Prophet ﷺ and now they are understanding what that is. That is the Kitab al Mubeen (The Clear book) and from the heart of that light is a sign of Holy Qur’an. That reality of TaSeen and the transmission and the Divinely Speech of Allah (AJ). So means with one Durood Sharif (praising on Prophet Muhammad ﷺ), “Allahumma salli ‘ala Sayyidina Muhammadin wa ‘ala aali Sayyidina Muhammad,” we enter with our soul into that presence. That fire gives 10 praisings back onto our reality.
Reality of The Divinely Fire – Who Gives You Back 10 Salawats?
So means then people of tafakkur (contemplation) contemplate that what that fire said to Sayyidina Musa (as)? ‘Ana Allah.’ Because what Allah (AJ) described of Prophet ﷺ? “Uhyi al Qur’an.” He does not speak from his desires and that any speech is a revelation. Because Allah (AJ) clarifying for believers that the heart of Prophet ﷺ is the speech of Allah (AJ) speaking to you.
28:30 – “Falammaaa ataahaa noodiya min shaati’il waadil aimani fil buq’atil muubaarakati minash shajarati ai yaa Moosaaa inneee Anal laahu Rabbul ‘aalameen.” (Surat Al-Qasas)
“But when he came to it (fire), he was called from the right side of the valley in a blessed spot – from the tree, “O Moses, indeed I am Allah, Lord of the worlds.” (The Stories, 28:30)
53:3-5 – “Wa ma yantiqu ‘anil hawa. (3) In huwa illa wahyun yooha. (4) ‘Allamahu shadeedul Quwa. (5)” (Surat An-Najm)
“Nor does he (Prophet Muhammad (s) speak from [his own] desire. (3) He is not but a revelation revealed. (4) He was taught by one Mighty in Power. (5)” (The Star, 53:3-5)
So then who is giving back the 10 salawats upon your soul? “La ilaha illAllah, La ilaha illAllah.” The one who spoke to Nabi Musa (as) saying ‘Ana Allah’ and the Mighty and the All-Wise means the source of all power, all majesty. Allah (AJ) made for the believers of the nation of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ – enter that fire and all you need is one salawat upon Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. If the nation knew the extent and the power of one Durood Sharif, they would be sitting making tens of thousands of Durood Sharif. But shaitan’s (satan) job is to make people heedless. This is the immensity of that power.
Blessings of Associations of Praising upon Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ
When they sit and say, “Allahumma salli ‘ala Sayyidina Muhammadin wa ‘ala aali Sayyidina Muhammad,” they sit for majlis e sali alan Nabi ﷺ (association of praising upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ), their soul is entering into that fire. All whom are around it are blessed, all whom enter within it become blessed and the Divinely Speech of Allah (AJ) is speaking to them. Allah’s (AJ) Divinely Speech dresses the soul and blesses the soul. This is all that is necessary for humanity. This is the way to draw near to that reality. That becomes the immensity of Durood Sharif.
The Greatest Means into Divinely Presence and The Key of Power for the Nation
When a nation is in need, they make salawat on Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. When they have fear they make salawat upon Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. This becomes the secret of drawing near which you see the nation lacking now. When they make their call, it is not Durood Sharif upon Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. They call directly to Allah (AJ). They left out the portal. They left out their greatest means into Divinely Presence. They left out the greatest gift from the Divinely Presence. The greatest mediator, the one whom takes your case and brings resolution and representation from Allah (AJ). You don’t hear them making salawat.
Imagine a nation that every time they faced a difficulty or fear they began majlis of sali alan Nabi ﷺ. The fire would be all around them and they would enter into that Divinely flame. Because the flame would be present with them, Allah (AJ) would be present with them. That would be a nation with immense power. This is the key and the power for the nation. Every time a difficulty comes, observe. Say, ‘Why don’t they mention Prophet ﷺ? Why don’t they keep the sunnah (traditions) of Prophet ﷺ?’ So mean these are the keys of this reality. The ones whom studying from this reality, they understand the immensity of Allah’s (AJ) gift and blessings.
Hold Tight to Your Rope and Anchor to Divinely Presence
Other nations their prayers were to receive an audience and the nation of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ has such a simple entry. So simple that they don’t give a value that it deserves. That’s the dangers of the last days and the reward for those whom Allah (AJ) have blessed to grant them ears to hear and eyes to see. They come upon these haqqaiq and these realities and they say, ‘Make it simple.’ There can be nothing more simpler than making your salawat upon Prophet ﷺ.
Because of the immensity of that proximity and the immensity of that light. Then we understand hold tight to your rope. When they say don’t cut your anchor, don’t cut your rope, understand that the conditions that Allah (AJ) has put us in has a hikmah and a wisdom. Because as you enter into that flame, everything about us is screaming to get out of that presence. But people don’t have an ear to hear.
Nafs (Ego) & Shaitan Burn in the Flame, They Wants You to Leave That Fire
Imagine that with your soul you make your Durood Sharif, you’re moving into that reality. But your shaitan is burning, your nafs is burning. All of their hopes desires for you that you would be their slave and you would be their toy, they’re burning. Hence, they send 10,000 waswases (whisperings) into your ear to get out, ‘Get out!’ Because Allah (AJ) is telling you, this flame all whom around it, all whom are in it are blessed. (Holy Qur’an, 27:8). That same flame burns the shayateen (devils), burns the nafs.
That’s why they teach: hold your anchor, things are about to get pretty bad. Everything you think you’re smart, it is not you that’s smart. It is your nafs telling you, ‘Get out of the fire.’ If you can’t stand the heat, get out of what they called kitchen. That’s what the nafs wants you to do. ‘Just leave, run. Get a new job, get a new life, get a new appearance, do something.’
Resist the Complaints of Nafs – Be Like a Moth to the Flame
But the people are taught to meditate and contemplate. The reason the nafs is yelling and screaming every type of complaint, every type of difficulty. Complain, complain, complain, complain, complain. Until the person is so annoyed with the conditions of their life that they’re trying to pull away. They don’t even know that they’re pulling away and this is because of the intensity of that fire that we’re entering.
We said that you listen to the na’at (prophetic praising) and the poetry of these ‘ashiqeen (lovers). In which they describe that a moth to the flame. Your life is to be a moth to the flame. It is that the fire is there, it is very clear; it is the presence of Prophet ﷺ. Enter it with your salawats, with your good deeds and good character. As you enter into that flame know that your whisperings will be intensified because they’re burning. If they have too much reach into you. You see like a Sci-Fi movie if the devil is too strong with you, he has claws into your body. As you draw near into that flame, he pushes deeper to create a pain and a resistance.
Jihadul Akbar – The Greatest Struggle Against Nafs
When Prophet ﷺ describes to the Holy Companions (as) who fought massive battles, some two times a day that, ‘These were minor fights. I’m leaving this world veiling myself. What comes after is the Jihadul Akbar (the greater struggle).’ People don’t seem to really contemplate what that meant. To tell Holy Companions (as) whom they saw nothing but fighting for the sake of Prophet ﷺ. That the greater fight lies ahead.
“An Jabiru (as) qala, ‘qadema ‘ala Rasulullahi ﷺ qawmun ghazatun. Faqalan Nabiyu ﷺ : “Qademtum khaira maqdamin min jihadil Asghar ilal Jihadil Akbar.” Qeela “wa ma al Jihadil Akbar?” Qala ﷺ : “Mujahidatul ‘abdi hawahu.” [ Bayhaqi fi Kitab Az Zuhdil Kabir & al Khatib al Baghdadi fi Kitabi Tarikh Baghdad, Juz’ 13/498]
Jabir (as) narrated: ‘Some warriors came to the Holy Prophet. The Prophet (Muhammad) (pbuh) said to them, “Welcome back from the minor Jihad/Struggle to the greater Struggle.” It was asked, ‘What is the greater struggle Oh Prophet of Allah (Pbuh)?” The Prophet (pbuh) replied: “it is the servant’s fight/struggle against his own Ego/worldly desires.” [Bayhaqi in book of ‘The Great Asceticism & Al Khatib Baghadadi in book of History of Baghdad, Vol 13, 498]
Difficulty is Part of the Great Fight, Learn How to Fight Your Devil
So as soon as people have difficulty, they think they should run from it. Soon as they have a condition they’re not happy with, they should complain about it. If shaitan grabs you and sticks his nails into you, you think you’re going to run from it. But this was supposed to be the great fight. He didn’t say it was going to be easy, he didn’t say that you’re just going to declare your Islam and you’ll be victorious. But that it is an immense battle. So those whom are suffering from difficulties that the shaitan doesn’t want to leave them alone. This is all from the talk from the night before. Because people don’t seem to see how that’s useful in everyday life.
When you want to cut the chain and gnaw away at your anchor. Trying to lift your anchor out because a certain condition in your life is not comfortable for you. Instead of worrying about how to change that condition, asking for prayers that, ‘This is this, this is hard, this is hard,’ why don’t you focus on why that condition is there. If a shaitan is attacking you, the relief is not only in asking the shaykh’s du’a (supplication), the relief is in learning how to fight that devil. What shaykh will do for you? Gave all the tools for you but he can’t take your path for you. He gave all the tools for you that, ‘Why you don’t make your connection stronger? Make your focus more clear, make your Durood and your salawats stronger.’
Inspect Your Heart, Is It Fully Secure?
So means go back through all your practices. So we give now analogy, you taught all these lessons, you sit in your house and a shaitan came right through your door or through a window. Say, ‘Call the shaykh, shaitans are coming through my window.’ Okay, now what? But he gave the tools for you to keep looking at your house and your heart. Because the house is synonymous with the heart. That what’s wrong in your house? ‘Oh maybe the windows are not secure, maybe my door is not secure. Maybe the system around the house doesn’t have enough lights. It is too dark in one corner, some shaitan could be playing there.’
As an analogy they keep inspecting their premises because they’ve been taught, they’re rijal (men of maturity). They’re not looking for babysitting. We’re not looking for someone to take our path. We want to be taught how to fight on our path. So every time a difficulty comes, the believer sits and contemplates, ‘How I got attacked? How this energy is coming towards me? How is this difficulty happening? My connection has to be stronger.’ Say, ‘Oh I thought is very strong,’ well apparently not. It has to be stronger.
Make the Connection Stronger, Be Vigilant in Everyday Life
All of the teaching has to be understood. All the drink, the food, everything has to be with du’a, cut out anything suspicious. All of these practices you live the life like a shaykh. They showed a Muslim president – pious one – sitting in an event and somebody brought something for him to drink. He looked at the person bringing it, he didn’t touch it. As soon as he saw his son come, then he took the cup and drank it. It means he is vigilant that someone may try to poison him. Don’t be heedless in life. So it means in our life, in our every day you watch what you eat. You watch what you drink. You watch all your practices and all your energy.
Everything that we’re taking in our lives has to produce a positive energy. We’re not talking about being poisoned. These are analogies that look a dunya (material world) president who is pious, how much they’re vigilant. But normal people in training are heedless. So, it means every type of condition Allah (AJ) puts us in, there must be a hikmah (wisdom). There must be hikmah that something is coming through, an energy is coming through. This condition that I’m in, it should be drawing me closer to the shaykh and to the reality of the shaykh. Instead of me trying to find a relief that actually may make me be distant from the shaykh. Maybe the condition Allah (AJ) put me draws me near to the shaykh.
Drawing Near to Your Shaykh is Not Physical Presence, Connect Through Your Heart & Soul
In the concept of drawing near to the shaykh it is not that you be down the street from where his physical presence. It is not necessary. Because his physical presence doesn’t give anything to you. We said before the people who come to the physical presence, they can become handicapped thinking that they achieved something special. The people of Makkah they don’t make Hajj (pilgrimage). Literally they live in Makkah and they rarely go for Hajj, rarely go for ‘Umrah because they think they already got it. This is not about physical presence.
When they say draw near to the shaykh is that your heart and your soul has to be connected. Your soul has to be witnessing. That can be achieved by distance because of the reality of yearning. You know ‘ashiqeen (lovers), they’re all outside of Madina. Prophet’s ﷺ great nuclear force pushes their force away because they have a lesser nuclear force. If it was for their wujud (existence), they would have sold everything and moved into Madinatul Munawwara (luminous city of Prophet ﷺ) and let everything collapse and just be in the presence of Prophet ﷺ. But because of his immense power, he pushes them away. As a result, they’re able to serve the nation. But they exist with an immense yearning within their being to be with the one whom they love most and more dear to themselves.
Compete to Receive the Nazar (Gaze) of Prophet ﷺ
So it is not that everybody has an immense love, they excel everything and move into Madinatul Munawwara. But those whom are in service to his majesty, they’re kept at a distance. The hikmah of that distance is that their soul has an immense yearning. Because of that distance, they have an immense himmah (zeal). Because of that distance they have to accomplish so that they can have his holy nazar.
So they put on big events, they put on big charities, they do grand things. Why? So, that his holy majesty will look upon them. Not just sit at his feet ﷺ and do nothing in life. Say, ‘What were you doing there?’ ‘Nothing.’ The whole reality and hikmah is that they were to go out and compete to do things to get the nazar of Prophet ﷺ. So mean alhamdulillah, we explained now the whole process in just a few minutes. We pray that Allah (AJ) give us a greater understanding and a connection to this world of light and a very strong connection into the world of light. As the world is unfolding in the directions that is foretold to unfold, inshaAllah.
Subhana rabbika rabbal ‘izzati ‘amma yasifoon, wa salaamun ‘alal mursaleen, walhamdulillahi rabbil ‘aalameen. Bi hurmati Muhammad al-Mustafa ﷺ wa bi siri Surat al-Fatiha.
