The Connection Between Isra wal Mi’raj and Laylatul Qadr

A’uzu Billahi Minash Shaitanir Rajeem
Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan
In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
Allahu ala hayy, ala Hayyul ya Qayyum. Allahu ala hayy, ala Hayyul ya Qayyum. Allahu ala hayy, ala Hayyul ya Qayyum. Allahu ala hayy, ala Hayyul ya Qayyum. Allahu ala hayy, ala Hayyul ya Qayyum. Allahu ala hayy, ala Hayyul ya Qayyum. Allahu ala hayy, ala Hayyul ya Qayyum. Bi madadikum Sayyidi ya Rasulul Kareem (The Most Generous Messenger), Ya Habibul ‘Azim (The Beloved of the Magnificent) unzur halana wa ishfalana abidona madadikum wa nazarekum. Madad Ya Sayyidi Sultanul Awliya Mawlana Shaykh Abdullah Faiz ad Daghestani (Q), Sultanul Awliya Shaykh Muhammad Nazim Adil Haqqani (Q), Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani (Q), Shaykh Adnan Kabbani (Q), Shaykh Muhammad Adil (Q) wa Abdul Khaliq al Ghujdawani, Sahibul Zaman Sayyidina Muhammad al Mahdi (as) wa Ruhullah Sayyidina Isa (as), Sayfullah Sayyidina Ali (as) thumma Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (as), Sayyidina Umar (as), Sayyidina Uthman (as), Imam al Hassan (as), Imam al Hussain (as), Sayyidatina Fatima tul Zahra (as) wa ila sayiri sadatina fi barakah wiladat Imam Hussain (as), Sayyidina Abbas (as), Sayyidina Zainul Abideen (as).
Ya Rabbi, dress us from their lights, bless us from their lights. That their nazar (gaze), their madad (support) and their endless and infinite blessings to be dressed upon our soul and to guide us through oceans of difficulty, inshaAllah. Bi Hurmati Muhammad al-Mustafa wa bi siri Surat al-Fatiha.
A’uzu Billahi Minash Shaitanir Rajeem Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem. Atiullah wa atiur Rasul wa Ulil amre minkum. Always a reminder for myself, ana abdukal ‘ajeez, wa dayeef, wa miskin, wa zhalim, wa jahl, and but for the grace of Allah (AJ) that we’re still in existence.
أَطِيعُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُوا الرَّسُولَ وَأُولِي الْأَمْرِ مِنكُم… ﴿٥٩﴾ …
4:59 – “…Atiullaha wa atiur Rasula wa Ulil amre minkum…” (Surat an-Nisa)
“…Obey Allah, obey the Messenger, and those in authority among you…” (The Women, 4:59)
Allah (AJ) is a Hidden Treasure Wanting to Be Known
Alhamdulillah, that Allah (AJ) gave us these holy months. The birth of light and the reality of a secret wanting to be known, Divinely secret wanting to be known with the realities of Rajab and ‘Atiullah’. That obedience to Allah (AJ), that a treasure wanting to be known.
قَال رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ، قَالْ اللَّه عَزَ وَجَلْ: “ كُنْت كَنْزاً مخفيا فَأَحْبَبْت أَنْ أُعْرَفَ؛ فَخَلَقْت خَلْقاً فَعَرَّفْتهمْ بِي فَعَرَفُونِي.” [حَدِيثْ اَلْقُدْسِي – بِحَارْ اَلْأنْوَارْ، اَلْعَلَامَةْ اَلْمَجْلِسِيْ، جُزْء ٨٤، صَفْحَة ١٩٩]
Qala Rasulallahi ﷺ, Qala Allah (AJ): “Kuntu kanzan makhfiyya, fa ahbabtu an a’rafa, fa khalaqtu khalqan, fa ‘arraftahum bi fa ‘arafonee.”
[Hadith al Qudsi – Behar al Anwar, Al ‘Alama al Majlisi, Juz’ 84, Safha 199]
The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said, that Allah (AJ) said: “I was a hidden Treasure then I desired to be known, so I created a creation to which I made Myself known; then they knew Me.” [Holy Hadith – Bihar al Anwar, by Al ‘Alama al Majlisi, Volume 84, Page 199]
Alhamdulillah, Allah (AJ) bringing into existence “Muhammadun Rasulullah” – ‘Atiur Rasul’. That all, all reality is follow the proclamation and the guidance of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ, of all the prophets, all the angels, all the siddiqs (truthful), all the awliya (saints). Everything is to follow the command of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. Then alhamdulillah, Allah (AJ) from the light of Prophet ﷺ, brings into existence all creation and that has to do with…“Atiullah, atiur Rasul wa Ulul amre minkum” and the reality of the Ulul Amr (saints) and the reality of Ramadan.
How Atiullah, Atiur Rasul and Ulul Amr Relate to Rajab, Sha’ban and Ramadan
The immense blessings of Ramadan and the blossoming of existence, the blossoming of creation that coming from that ocean of Muhammadun Rasulullah ﷺ. The only way to understand that reality of ‘Atiullah’ and the reality of Rajab and the only way to understand the reality of ‘Atiur Rasul’ and the reality of Sha’ban is then Allah’s (AJ) gift of Ramadan. That from “Atiullah, atiur Rasul wa Ulul amkre minkum” (Holy Qur’an, 4:59) means that Allah’s (AJ) obedience to Allah (AJ), like a rope that comes down. It’s not meant for people to think that they can follow the command of Allah (AJ). It means in a statement that they have to follow the command but in a path of humility, you know yourself and say that it’s impossible to follow the command of Allah (AJ).
As a rahmah and as a mercy, Allah (AJ) extended that rope from this reality of creation coming into existence to ‘Atiur Rasul’. That nobody’s going to follow, really follow to the extent of what Allah (AJ) wants, ‘Nobody can follow My command except the one whom I created for the reality to follow My command.’ That his whole existence and reality is to follow the command of Allah (AJ). That becomes the birth of the reality of the existence of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. That Muhammadun Rasulullah ﷺ that is created.
Everything in Creation Was Created From the Light of Muhammadun RasulAllah ﷺ
So, it’s not something from the Earth that Allah (AJ) pointed, ‘Okay, you now this and you are this and now you are this.’ These are from the world of light in which Allah (AJ), when creating creation and wanting creation to come into existence and wanting to be known through that reality, Allah (AJ) named at that time that reality. That, ‘Now coming into existence.’ “Kun faya koon” and Muhammadun Rasulullah ﷺ is the birth of that light that now begins to come into existence.
﴾إِنَّمَا أَمْرُهُ إِذَا أَرَادَ شَيْئًا أَن يَقُولَ لَهُ كُن فَيَكُونُ ﴿٨٢
36:82 – “Innama AmruHu idha Arada shay an, an yaqola lahu kun faya koon.” (Surat YaSeen)
“His Command is when He Wills/Intends a thing, He says to it, “Be,” and it is!” (YaSeen, 36:82)
From that light, Allah (AJ) began to partition, ‘From this light will come My angels. From this light of Muhammadun Rasulullah ﷺ will come all My heavens, all My paradises, the Might and the Majesty of the Divinely throne.’ It means from the reality of that light, Allah (AJ) began to bring all of creation into existence. The immensity and the rahmah (mercy) of trying to follow that is impossible, that it’s not a simple way. It’s not an easy path. So, Allah (AJ) again, extended a rahmah and a mercy is that, “Wa Ulul amre minkum.” ‘And follow those in authority over you.’ As a result of those in authority, that’s the secret and the blessings of Ramadan.
Our Efforts in Rajab are Just Imitations
It means that Rajab, to really be dressed by Rajab, is impossible. That’s why everything about Rajab is an imitation. That, ‘Ya Rabbi, we’re coming into the month of Rajab. We’re trying to make these du’as (supplications) of asking istighfar (seeking forgiveness) and that I’m an oppressor to myself.’
If you read Shaykh Abdullah Faiz ad Daghestani (Q) Sultanul Awliya’s du’as during the whole thirty days of Rajab was that, ‘I’m an oppressor to myself. That I’m nothing, I’m no one, ya Rabbi. I’m not able to follow what You had wanted when You created that reality and from the light that you took from me, from the ocean of Muhammadun Rasulullah ﷺ. That noble and magnificent light, I’m not living up to that standard.’ So, that’s not something that we can achieve and awliyaullah (saints) come into our lives to teach us that. So, we’re imitating in Rajab, all the practices.
Observe the Reality of Muhammadun RasulAllah ﷺ in Sha’ban
Then Allah (AJ) grants for us then to understand the month of Sha’ban is the one whom can achieve that was brought on Isra wal Mi’raj (Night Journey and Ascension), on the 27th of Rajab. It means that sit and observe the reality of Muhammadun Rasulullah ﷺ in the holy month of Sha’ban. It means that we’re understanding now that, Ya Rabbi, then it’s a sign of humility that I can’t achieve what Allah (AJ) wants, what really wants from him.
The people who tune in say, ‘Oh no, no, we only follow Allah (AJ), Allah (AJ). We go for Jum’ah (Friday prayers) and that’s it.’ That’s not what we’re talking about. That’s kindergarten people who don’t have any understanding of what Allah (AJ) really wanted for insan (mankind); the level of taslim (submission), the level of perfection. So with humility, we back and say, ‘Ya Rabbi, there’s no way that I can achieve that. I know that myself “La ilaha anta Subhanaka, innee kuntu minazh zhalimeen.” That, ‘Glory be to You Ya Rabbi and that I’m an oppressor to myself.’
﴾لَّا إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا أَنتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ ﴿٨٧…
21:87 – “… La ilaha illa anta Subhanaka, innee kuntu minazh zhalimeen.” (Surat Al-Anbiya)
“…There is no god/deity except You; Glory to you: Indeed I have been of the wrongdoers/Oppressor to Myself!” (The Prophets, 21:87)
Outside of Tariqah, Most are Unaware of the Significance of the Holy Months
So, we don’t need to approach the Divine with arrogance and as a result, Allah (AJ) opened for us this love and understanding. Because I think many people say that oh when they before coming to tariqah (spiritual path), they didn’t even known the significance of Rajab other than Isra wal Mi’raj (Night Journey and Ascension). That was usually a fundraiser at the masjid. They didn’t even know what the month of Sha’ban and the importance of the month of Sha’ban. Say, ‘Oh Shab e Bara’ah, oh…’ and then they would argue about its validity and all sorts of ridiculous things. But the grace and the rahmah (mercy) of Allah (AJ) that opened these tariqah realities.
That as soon as you come to the tariqah, they teach the realities of this ma’rifah, this gnosticism. The immensity of the oceans of knowledge that are like a tip of an iceberg that people are understanding. The mass, the mass of the reality is not known. This is only the blessings of tariqah. So, they come into the month of Sha’ban and as a result of being again humble, that the greatness of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ is not something that I can achieve, not something that I can fully understand but my life is to move towards that reality; to have the love for Prophet ﷺ, to keep that Divinely Presence, to keep that Divinely companionship.
Nisf e Sha’ban is the Point Where La Ilaha IllAllah Meets Muhammadun RasulAllah ﷺ
Laylatul Nifs e Sha’ban then is the midpoint between La ilaha illAllah Muhammadun Rasulullah ﷺ because it’s manifesting at Ramadan. Then the secret is all the way in the realities of Rajab that can’t be achieved. So, between these 90 days, the center of them is on the 15th of Sha’ban. So, from Muhammadun Rasulullah ﷺ and Ramadan, everything is manifesting. The nation has manifested. The secret of Ramadan, ‘Ulul amre minkum’ is that everything has manifested. So, this becomes Muhammadun Rasul ﷺ and then meeting from ‘Rasul’ in the middle of Sha’ban and then completing all the way to La ilaha illAllah is the finale in Rajab.
So, it means that the Nifs e Sha’ban is the point where La ilaha illAllah because it’s the reverse way is meeting Muhammadun Rasulullah ﷺ. So, it means that that humility of not being able to understand that reality and our approach and our love for Prophet ﷺ means that we move ourself with humility. That, ‘Ya Rabbi, I want to achieve what these awliyaullah are teaching. I want to achieve these realities and all this ishq and this love.” Then Allah’s (AJ) rahmah and mercy is the holy month of Ramadan. Then Allah (AJ) say, ‘I’m going to dress you from My Rajab realities. I’m going to dress you from the Sha’ban and the love and the ishq and the realities of Muhammadun Rasulullah ﷺ.’ So, what He granted as a gift for this nation is the holy month of Ramadan. Excuse me.
Enter a State of Fasting in Ramadan to Be Dressed By Allah’s (AJ) Favours
Ramadan’s immensity is that Allah (AJ) wants to grant the gift and then teaches with humility, ‘This gift is so immense and so unimaginable that there’s nothing you can do to achieve it. The only way I’m going to give this to you is that in these thirty days, you fast for Me.’ To show that the greatest reward that God is going to give us is not something from our actions.
It’s not that you’re praying and you’ll get these rewards and these stations. It’s not that you gave and you’ll get these stations. Teaching us – it’s not our ‘amal, it’s not our actions. But, ‘Enter a state of fasting. As a result, I will dress you. I will dress and I will complete My religion upon you. I’ll complete My favours upon you.’
What Prophet ﷺ Was Dressed With on Isra wal Mir’aj Dresses Us on Laylatul Qadr
That’s why then the secret of Laylatul Qadr (Night of Power) is the dress of what Prophet ﷺ was achieving for the nation on Isra wal Mi’raj (Night Journey and Ascension). That such a Rasulul Kareem, such a generous prophet in which, whatever he achieves ﷺ, he wants for the nation. That what was achieved on Isra wal Mi’raj becomes the dress and the reality of Laylatul Qadr. It means why, where Laylatul…Laylatul Qadr is coming? Why is it coming? It’s the dress of what come on the 27th of Isra wal Mi’raj of Rajab. That, ‘I want my nation to achieve these, ya Rabbi. I want to intercede for them and what’s the benefit of giving to me if I can’t give to them?’ Allah’s (AJ) rahmah and mercy because immensity of that somebody just take for themself a station and go.
But the immensity of the love that the Divine has and the whole system is rigged for us to win. The whole system is based on immense muhabbat and love. That Prophet ﷺ wants for his nation for what he received for himself. So, let them to be dressed by these realities and then Allah (AJ) bring into existence Laylatul Qadr. That, ‘All these nights and all these blessings, that on this Laylatul Qadr, I’m going to dress you from the Ramadan secrets. I’m going to bless you from Ramadan secrets. Sit on this gate of 27 and that whatever Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ is achieving of these lights and these immense blessings, I dress your soul from its immensities and dress with that blessing and that barakah.’
The Immensity of These Three Holy Months Cannot Be Understood
Then Allah (AJ) describes, “Anzalnaahu fee laylatil-qadr. Wa ma adraka ma laylatul qadr. Laylatul Qadre khairum min alfe shahr.”
﴾إِنَّا أَنزَلْنَاهُ فِي لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ ﴿١﴾ وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ ﴿٢﴾ لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ خَيْرٌ مِّنْ أَلْفِ شَهْرٍ ﴿٣﴾ تَنَزَّلُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَالرُّوحُ فِيهَا بِإِذْنِ رَبِّهِم مِّن كُلِّ أَمْرٍ ﴿٤﴾ سَلَامٌ هِيَ حَتَّىٰ مَطْلَعِ الْفَجْرِ ﴿٥
97:1-5 – “Innaa anzalnaahu fee lailatil qadr. (1) Wa maa adraaka ma lailatul qadr (2) Lailatul qadri khairum min alfee shahr. (3) Tanaz zalul malaa-ikatu war roohu feeha bi izni-rab bihim min kulli amr. (4) Salaamun hiya hattaa mat la’il fajr. (5)” (Surat Al-Qadr)
“We have brought it down on the night of power. (1) And what will explain to you what the night of power is? (2) The Night of Power is better than a thousand months. (3) The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every Command/affair. (4) Peace it is until the emergence of dawn. (5)” (The Power, 97:1-5)
That you can sit a lifetime and nothing is compared to what this dress if the Muhammadan dress begins to dress the servant. Allah (AJ) says, ‘It’s a whole lifetime of blessings.’ That it can’t be understood and imagined. That’s the immensity of that blessing. So, then these three months is Allah’s (AJ) immense dress and immense blessings.
Nisf e Sha’ban is the Night of Destiny of What’s Written Upon Your Soul
Now coming before us is Laylatul Nisf e Sha’ban where La ilaha illAllah is ‘Allah Hu’ is attaching that ocean of “Qaba qawsayni aw adna”.
﴾فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَدْنَىٰ ﴿٩
53:9 – “Fakana qaaba qawsayni aw adna. (Surat An Najm)
“And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer [to the Divine Presence]. (The Star 53:9)
That hey, Hu, meem is then opening up the reality of Muhammadun Rasulullah ﷺ. So, La ilaha illAllah is the Rajab facing and as soon as you enter into Sha’ban, then you’re coming into Muhammadun Rasulullah ﷺ. So, then from the Allah (AJ) and the H from Allah (AJ) has a waw and then connects to the meem of Muhammadun Rasulullah ﷺ. That’s why then Nisf e Sha’ban has to do with what’s written upon the soul, written upon the Muhammadan soul. That in that reality of that light coming into existence, that’s the point in which Allah (AJ) is writing the destiny. That’s the night of destiny.
Writing the goodness, the rizq (sustenance), the provision, what’s coming for that year of who’s coming, who’s going. Immensity, immense, immense blessings, immense barakah, immense realities within that night. We pray that Allah (AJ) give us the goodness, the immensity of that goodness, our rizq to be blessed, our health to be blessed, our faith and deen (religion) to be blessed, blessed with this immense love for Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. That the love for Prophet ﷺ, grant us a love to be with Sayyidina Mahdi (as) and to give us an umr and a life to see those days and to partake in that reality, to be dressed by that reality and blessed by that reality.
Perform Salatul Khair to Fulfill Your Love of Allah (AJ) and Prophet ﷺ
It means then Sha’ban is a month in which is the ishq and the love of Prophet ﷺ. That to be dressed by this love and to pray that Allah (AJ) grant us to reach towards the 14th of Sha’ban, to be dressed by Laylatul Bara’ah (Night of Salvation). Then as a result, we pray Salatul Khair which is the hundred rak’ah (cycle of prayer). For people whom their health is not good, they can pray that sitting down so there should be no reason why somebody can’t do the prayers because the physical may be a bit difficult on their legs or knees. But from a chair, you pray a hundred rak’ahs to fulfill that love for Allah (AJ) and for Prophet ﷺ so that they can dress us from that goodness and from that blessings.
It’s advised to do a qurban (sacrifice) at that time, to be charitable, to be loving, to have good practices, be…kindness to family. We pray that Allah (AJ) dress us and bless us with these lights of Sha’ban that opening and that Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ to be happy with us and that holy nazar (gaze) to be upon us, to dress us, forgive us our wrongs and to bless our families, ourself and our communities, inshaAllah.
