Tarawih Prayers Carry Tremendous Blessings in Ramadan
Alhamdulillah, the month in which to fast, break the fast and after Salatul Isha (night prayer), there are 20 rak’ahs of Qiyamul Layl (Nightly Devotion), tarawih (night prayer in Ramadan) which are sunnah prayer (traditions of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ). It’s best to fulfill the number 20 and those can be done seated for those whom are older or their health is not good. You don’t have to make it difficult. You can recite Surat al-Ikhlas, connect your heart and complete, always asking, ‘Ya Rabbi, I’m a weak servant and I’m imitating out of my ishq and love and for whatever good You have in store for me, I’m in need of that now, ya Rabbi, and to be dressed for it.’
Some people say they only want to pray 4, 6, 8. Do the 20. If you have to do 8 standing, 12 standing, do the rest by the chair. Complete the 20 because of the dress and the barakah (blessing) within that reality. Even if you have to complete it sitting on a chair, making your salah (daily prayer) on the chair, there is a reward in completing that effort whether you could have done it physically complete or you completed it with the chair. It means just get the 20 done, inshaAllah. The dress and the blessing of that reality to be dressed especially in these times of immense difficulty and hardship that we see all covering this Earth.
We Approach the Sultanate in Ramadan, the 9th Month
This Ramadan, inshaAllah, to be an immense protection; immense lights and blessings that Allah (AJ) dress us from His uncreated word, the Holy Qur’an. The light of Qur’an to dress our heart, our soul, our eyes, our entire wujud (existence) and being to be dressed by that reality and its location is emanating from the heart of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. By now, we should have understood that reality. In this ninth month of moving into that ocean and the immensity of that ocean.
A’uzu Billahi Minash Shaitanir Rajeem Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem. Ana abdukal ‘ajeezu, dayeefu, miskinu, zhalim, wa jahl and but for the grace of Allah (AJ) that we are in existence.
Atiullah wa atiur Rasul wa Ulil amre minkum
4:59 – “…Atiullaha wa atiur Rasula wa Ulil amre minkum…” (Surat an-Nisa)
“…Obey Allah, obey the Messenger, and those in authority among you…” (The Women, 4:59)
That this ninth month is a month of immense realities and blessings. It’s the month of annihilation because of the duality of nine and the approach towards the sultanate (kingdom). We are approaching in that Divine heart and that Divine light. That Muhammadan light that has been taught for these eight, nine months. Now we’re entering into its sultanate and its reality from which the heart and center of that light is the emanation of Allah’s (AJ) Holy Speech that can’t be understood, can’t even correctly be explained.
Ramadan Realities Can Only Be Achieved By Fasting
Manzil ul Qur’an (where the holy Qur’an emanates) means this is the month of Qur’an. This is the month of immense lights and blessings. As we’re drawing near, we’re approaching this fountain of Qur’an which is the heart of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. That’s why all these months and teachings and ishq of Prophet’s ﷺ soul is that now we’re in the presence of that waterfall. This is the month in which Allah (AJ) begin to open the tap of that waterfall. That as you sit and meditate and contemplate and read Holy Qur’an, Allah (AJ) reminding for us: there is no way you can achieve these realities except by fasting. No cleverness, no charity, all of those are of a minor understanding. They have the immensity of their importance but this station cannot be achieved except for siyam (fasting), except by siyam.
That’s why Allah (AJ) brought us to this pardeh, to this veil, ‘On this ninth month, I’m now taking you to the head of this fountain. The immensity of Holy Qur’an will be flowing upon you to receive its dress. Fast.’ That becomes the haqqaiq and the reality and towards the understanding of that reality. That Allah (AJ) has our physicality fasting but the soul is now entering into this water fountain. Only way that we can describe its beatific reality that this location in which Allah’s (AJ) not created, uncreated speech is flowing, flowing these lights. The source of power for all the created universes in which Allah (AJ) describe that, ‘If anything comes into existence, it’s by the power of this Qur’an.’ It means everything is powered, illuminated and sustained by the Holy Qur’an. So, by know you should have understood that.
Divinely Energies Emanate From Lisanul Haq
It’s sustained by the heart of Prophet ﷺ. The energy emanating out from the Muhammadan qalb (heart) is that reality. Then by what means is it emanating? It is by Lisanul Haq (Tongue of Truth). That in which is speaking that reality and sending the hamd (praise) and vibration of that power through the entire created universes and the source of all power and energy. That making every energy to have its vibration, from its vibration to its light, from its light to its form. All from the vibration of the heart and the reality that lies within the Muhammadan reality. Then we understood this immensity of love and ishq. This love for Prophetic reality, the reality of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ.
Allah (AJ) Sent Prophet ﷺ as a Mercy to Creation
Then when Allah (AJ) giving us that ten days. The first ten days is a gate of rahmah (mercy) because it all comes together once you start to understand. That we’ve been practicing this love, entering into this love, making these salawats (praises upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ), making all of these adabs (manners) and etiquettes so that with this love, we’re moving into that presence.
Then Allah (AJ) is describing that, ‘In this ishq and dress, I want to give you, its first ten days is a rahmah and a mercy’ because by now, you have entered into the love and the soul of Prophet ﷺ. Allah (AJ) describes, ‘I would not have sent the reality of Prophet ﷺ anywhere.’ “Wa maa arsalnaka illa Rahmatal lil’alameen.”
21:107 – “Wa maa arsalnaka illa Rahmatal lil’alameen.” (Surat Al-Anbiya)
“And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad (pbuh)], except as a mercy to the worlds/creation.” (The Prophets, 21:107)
‘We would not have sent…’ That’s not for dunya (material world). What does that mean? ‘We would not have sent the reality of Prophet ﷺ.’ There’s a dunya understanding, but Allah (AJ) doesn’t care for the manifest world to the weight of a mosquito wing. When Allah’s (AJ) real speech, its understanding must be towards eternity. There’s an interpretation in the world of form, but the form dies.
The First Ten Days of Ramadan are Full of Mercy as We Approach the Intercession of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ
So, why Allah (AJ) wanted to explain something that you’re only going to understand for 80 years? Allah’s (AJ) speech is that which will dress you for all of eternity. That, ‘I would not have sent this reality except that it’s a mercy and a rahmah (mercy).’ It’s the source of power that dressing everything. When we have this ishq and only by this love, the soul has drawn into that Divinely Presence. As a result of being in that presence, Allah (AJ) is describing, ‘Your first ten days is a dress of rahmah because now you’re going to go into the reality of the intercession of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ.’
As a result of entering into that rahmah, into that mercy, no doubt Allah (AJ) is then sending a mercy upon the soul. That, ‘I want you to complete what the messenger of Allah (AJ) has sent because I want to honour him and his nation.’ We need the mercy for our physicality to complete the command. The only reason Allah (AJ) is sending that rahmah so you can complete the fast is because He wants to honour the reality and the station of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ.
Every Prophet Told Their Nation to Fast, But Only Sayyidina Muhammad’s ﷺ Nation Continues
For every prophet told their nation, ‘Fast’ and every nation dropped it. The nation that Allah (AJ) guiding for that reality, ‘I’ll make them to have a mercy in which they can complete the fast.’ That’s why ten days are the most important. Why the first ten days is not maghfirah (seeking forgiveness) but to have a rahmah (mercy)? ‘So that you can enter this fast because I want your soul in that presence being dressed and I want your physicality to be subdued.’ Because if your physicality causes problems, it takes your soul out of that tajalli (manifestation).
So, Allah (AJ) is then showing a love that, ‘I want him ﷺ, his nation to be honoured and to be proud in front of all of the prophets that, ‘Look, my nation – 2 billion upon this Earth and they abstain from food and water for 30 days.’ Allah (AJ) sends them a rahmah so that they can complete that request. As a result of that rahmah, they draw near into that reality. No doubt that as they’re being dressed by the rahmah, within one to two days, the fast becomes a tajalli of immense beauty.
Only Shaitans of Those Fasting are Locked Up During Ramadan
The first day is like a fire. For some people, they have a very difficult time for their physicality to even comprehend they’re about to enter into fasting. A day before which is tonight is the day in which shaitan (satan) attacks everyone. That’s why all the battles, yelling, screaming and everybody texting fights and battles because he’s about to be locked up. He’s getting his last punch in before the bell rings. But the world shaitans are not locked up. Your shaitan is locked up if you fast. The world, no. The world actually likes to fight Muslims when they’re fasting. So, their shaitans are very active but the shaitan that counts the most is the shaitan inside me, not other shaitans. The shaitan inside me, Allah (AJ) is promising that, ‘As soon as you enter into that fast, you begin your battle against shaitan, My rahmah (mercy) will begin to come and dress you and make it to be of an ease.’
As a result, your devils is locked, blocked and the serenity of the soul can be felt. Our battle is to have the good characteristics in which to feel that serenity and feel the immensity of that beauty. That as soon as the servant begins to abstain for Allah (AJ) with this ishq and this love for Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ, then comes the lights within the soul in which the servant has more clarity, ‘What is my purpose on this Earth? Why was I sent upon this Earth, ya Rabbi?’
Allah (AJ) Renews Us as Newborns After 30 Days of Fasting
This immense compassion and rahmah (mercy) begins to dress the soul. That’s why they’re so compassionate. Muslims, when they begin to fast, this light of compassion enters into their heart. This light of sensitivity enter into the heart. These lights of blessings enter into the heart in which to subdue their character. Allah (AJ) grant if you do this 30 days, by the end of your 30th end day, I will have made you as if you were just born; brand new, brand new.
‘An ‘Abdur Rahman bin ‘Awf qala, qala Rasulullahi ﷺ, “Inna Ramadana shahrun aftarada Allahu ‘Azza wa Jalla Siyamahu. Wa inni sanantu lil Muslimina qiyamahu. Faman samahu Imanan wahtesaban, kharaja minaz zunubi kayawmi waladathu Ummuhu.” [Musnad Ahmad bin Hanbal 1621]
‘Abdur Rahman bin ‘Awf narrated that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said, “Verily, Ramadan is a month in which Allah Almighty has made its fasting an obligation. And I established its Qiyam (nightly devotion and prayers) as my sunnah for the Muslims. So whoever fasts in it out of faith and in hope of reward, will be rid of his sins like the day he was born from his mother.” [Source: Musnad Aḥmad Ibn Hanbal 1621]
It’s such an immense reality. That Allah (AJ) promising that, ‘You fast the Ramadan, you come out like a brand new child.’ All of the badness, all incorrectness will be destroyed. This is the month of annihilation because you’re in the presence of the nine.
Your Soul Multiplies in Power When Entering the Light of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ
So, understood the numeric and Manzil ul Qur’an, you’re entering into the presence of the 9 – the king of heavens and earth – the soul of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. The miraculous nature of 9 is that if you multiply 9, it always reduces itself to 9 because you can be nothing but a 9. So, fusion is fana (annihilation).
So, when our souls are entering into a light, this is no longer the world of form. When you’re soul is entering into that light and Allah’s (AJ) dressing that rahmah (mercy), your soul is now in a multiplication. It’s in a fana into the light of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ and Prophet ﷺ is making all those lights to be Muhammadiyoon, that which Allah (AJ) is pleased with. Allah’s (AJ) pleased with nothing other than Muhammadan Rasulullah ﷺ. The only way to achieve that is by the siyam (fasting).
Don’t Question Your Fasting Ability – Trust in Allah (AJ) to Provide Peace and Coolness
So, its first ten days is a rahmah (mercy) so that we can get into the game. If the first ten days was maghfirah (forgiveness), it would be like getting into college; thousand come, within a week 999 are thrown out because the dunya (material world) is like this where it funnels everybody out. But Allah’s (AJ) rahmah is so immense that, ‘I want everybody in, in.’ As a result, the pardeh that coming, the dress that coming is rahmah. As soon as they see that and say, ‘Oh, how am I going to do 30 days? How am I going to enter?’ “Qulna ya Naaru, kuni Bardan wa Salaman ‘ala Ibrahim.”
21:69 – “Qulna ya Naaru, kuni Bardan wa Salaman ‘ala Ibrahim.” (Surat al Anbiya)
“We said, “O fire, be cool and Peaceful upon Abraham.” (The Prophets 21:69)
That which you deem to be a fire and difficulty with whatever sickness or fear that someone has, Allah (AJ) says, ‘Just walk into it. Walk into it. Don’t worry. Readjust your medication. Readjust whatever you have to do. Walk into it and I send a tranquility and a rahmah upon the servant.’ As a result of that rahmah, they draw near into that reality to be dressed by its reality.
Read Holy Qur’an With Your Heart, Not Your Head
The second ten days of Ramadan become maghfirah (forgiveness) because this is the reality of the Muhammadan intercession. If he’s going to be making you Muhammadiyoon because the people are not equating the haqqaiq (realities) with what they thought of dunya (material world). ‘No, akhi, this is a time in which to read Qur’an.’ As if the reading was something that was improving their head. We’re saying the same thing but at a much higher level. Allah (AJ) wants to dress you from Qur’an. “Allamal Qur’an. Khalaqal insaan”. That’s our haqqaiq. Our reality is “Allamal Qur’an.” ‘I taught you the Qur’an then I created your insan (mankind).’
55:2-3 – “Allamal Qur’an (2). Khalaqal Insaan (3).” (Surat Ar Rahman)
”It is He Who has taught the Qur’an. (2) He has created Mankind. (3)” (The Beneficent, 55: 2-3)
Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ Obliterates Every Sin Like the Sun
So awliya (saints), they’re reversing and understand the reverse. This not a time that you have to read by your head. It’s a time in which Allah (AJ) want to dress you by your soul and this ishq and this love, a nearness with Prophet ﷺ is the fountain of that Qur’an coming out. As a result, you move into that fountain. It begins to destroy everything other than the fountain. “Muhyil qulub mahidh dhunub,” the one whom obliterates every sin like the sunshine itself.
Ya Muhyil qulubi, Salaam ‘Alayk Ya Mahidh dhunubi, Salaam ‘Alayk
O the reviver of the hearts, O the eraser of the sins, Peace be upon you
You know, the sun is an incinerator. Its food are elements. Its reality of fusion is that it actually has a gravitational pull that sucks in every element in the space and all the space around it. It’s sucking in everything. It will suck in all the planets to eat them but Allah (AJ) keeps those at an orbit. As a result, it brings it in and emits an immense light. From that reality, Prophet’s ﷺ light, mahidh dhunub. That as these souls are being dressed by that reality, blessed by that reality, their every badness been taken away. As a result of that badness been taken away, lights been given to them. It means that sun which is beyond the understanding of a sun.
Overcome Your Mind and Your Nafs to Complete Your Fasts
The soul is drawing near into that with a rahmah (mercy). Only through a rahmah, they can begin to enter the gravitational pull of that reality. Right? Because they say, ‘Oh, fasting? No way. OK, I’m not going to do 30 days of fasting’ because that’s the ship looking at the sun saying, ‘We’re going into that?’ Say, ‘Yeah you’re going into it.’ Say, ‘No no, we’re going to burn. How am I going to walk and do all these things?’ Allah (AJ) says, ‘Don’t worry, the rahmah is there.’ The first step is going to be difficult. You overcome your mind. You overcome your nafs (ego). You overcome all your conditions and concerns. Enter into that reality.
As a result of that, rahmah dresses the ten days. It’s a maghfirah (forgiveness) next ten days. Why? Because you are being burned by the sun. It’s eating every bad character away. Everything that the nafs (ego) has thrown upon or tried to throw upon the soul is being obliterated. That’s why the 9th month is a nuqt. It’s the reality of submission. Numerically, 9 is also, by mathematicians, proven to be a nuqt, a zero. It’s an annihilator. There’s no number greater than that.
Itqun Minan Naar – the Fire That Burns Impurities to Cleanse Us
As a result of that reality of maghfirah (forgiveness), they’re being washed away, washed away, washed away until the last ten days – ‘Itqun minan naar,’ freedom from fire.
‘An Salman al Farsi (ra), an Rasulullahi ﷺ qala: “Shahru Ramadana awwalahu rahmatun, wa awsatuhu maghfiratun, wa akhiruhu ‘itqun minan naar.” [Al Imam al Albani, Meshkatal Misbah, Kitab 7, Hadith 9]
Narrated by Salman al Farsi (ra), that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The first (ten days) of the month of Ramadan is mercy, the middle (ten days) is forgiveness, and the last (ten days) is salvation from the fire.” [Source: Al Imam al Albani, Meshkat al Masabih – 1965, Book 7, Hadith 9]
Why? Because the fire burned away everything that was going to cause the problem. The concept of the fire is that everything has to be returned pure to Allah (AJ). When impurities exist, the fire exists to clean the impurities. If the impurities been cleaned, the fire no longer burns. It has already cleaned that which it needed to clean. So then the last ten days, itqun minan naar, is freedom from fire because the souls now are deep within the reality of that sun being dressed by it, blessed by it. All the lights of Qur’an being dressed upon it. No doubt, by the end of 30 days of Ramadan, they are like a newborn child. All the badness, all the incorrectness been washed, destroyed and the beatific lights dressed upon the soul.
Don’t Delay Fasting This Year – You May Not Reach Next Ramadan
It means the immensity of this month is not something small. It’s not something people can say, ‘Oh, I do it. I don’t do it.’ You miss an immense dress upon the reality of the soul in which Allah (AJ) wants to give. Nobody knows how many Ramadans they have. You can’t say, like a bus, ‘I passed this year. Next year maybe.’ It’s not a bus that comes and goes.
This maybe your last year on Earth. InshaAllah no, but that you have long life. Nobody knows when Allah (AJ) is calling them. This is an opportunity once in a lifetime. If you see it again next year, you say the same thing, ‘Alhamdulillah, once in a lifetime’ so that we can take the dress, take the blessings.
Hearing Bad Things During Your Fast Breaks It
Each Ramadan, we described last night, Allah (AJ) can open for the servant different realities. That if they’ve done correctly their fasting, Allah (AJ) begin to open the reality of they fasted with their ears. That, ‘Ya Rabbi, this year I’m going to try my best. When I enter into Ramadan through this Sufi path and this understanding, I want to fast with my ears. Definitely not going to eat but I want to fast with my ears. I don’t want to have and hear bad.’ How can somebody hear bad but they’re in a state of abstinence from food trying to draw near to their Lord and now they want to hear bad? They don’t realize that that’s breaking the fast. But at children level, ‘OK,’ Allah (AJ) says, ‘that’s alright. We’ll forgive them.’
But those whom want to rise to a higher occasion, ‘Ya Rabbi, let me to fast with my ears. I don’t want to hear bad. I don’t want to be involved in these discussions. I don’t want to hear the sounds that will agitate my heart and agitate the dress.’ From one side they’re describing, ‘My soul to be dressed by Your Qur’an and then my physical body inducing something so that to destroy that reality.’
Control Your Physicality By Fasting With Your Senses
So, what Allah (AJ) wants is: command your physicality. Control your physicality. When you know your soul is being dressed by these stations, grab your physicality and begin to control it to the best that we can. Each one then begins to have a better and better fast. They try their best, ‘Ya Rabbi, let me to fast with my ears.’ Then one will say, ‘I want to fast this time, ya Rabbi, more with my eyes. Let me abstain from seeing what’s not appropriate and to take a path in which I close my eyes often.’ Not while you drive please.
But you close your eyes often and say, ‘I don’t know what this world has to offer me. I want to find my peace in Your presence. I’m going to take this Ramadan to make my connection, to feel the lights, to feel the love of Prophet ﷺ, to see myself at Rauza e Sharif (holy burial chamber) making my salawats (praises upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ), making my connection. InshaAllah, Allah (AJ) open more for their spiritual visions.
Redirect Your Hand to Hold the Hand of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ By Being Generous
So, it means all our senses can be fasting; not just the mouth from food. Fast with the mouth and the tongue. What this mouth says, what this tongue reacts, how it talks, in which way does it address, the tongue can be purified. Fasting with our hands and our rizq (sustenance) so that, ‘Ya Rabbi, what I attain from my hands for Your rida and satisfaction.’ The best way to clean the hands is to give by your hand. That which your hand earned and conquered of this dunya (material world), its difficulty comes upon you. The best to clean the hand is the oceans of generosity. That’s why Prophet ﷺ described, ‘The right doesn’t know what the left.’
‘An Abi Hurairah (ra) ‘anin Nabiyyi ﷺ qala: “Sab’atun yuzilluhumu Allahu fi zillihi yawma la zilla illa zilluhu… ” Fazakara al haditha wa fihi: “Wa rajulun tasaddaqa bisadaqatin fa akhfaha hatta la ta’lamu shimaluhu ma tunfiqu yameenuhu.” Muttafaqun ‘alayhi [1] [Al Kitab 4, Al Hadith 33]
Abu Hurairah (ra) narrated that The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said, “Seven people will be shaded by Allah under His shade on the day when there will be no shade except His ….” He mentioned the rest of the hadith, which says, “and a man who gives charity so secretly that his left hand does not know what his right hand has given.” (i.e. nobody knows how much he has given in charity). Agreed upon. [Book 4, Hadith 33]
It means the attention was into the hands. That what the hand is earning, it’s symbolic. It’s your power. The hand that should have been holding the Hand of Allah (AJ) which is the hand of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ is a qudra and a energy that’s coming. So, Allah (AJ) has placed an importance on your hand. ‘Your hand should be with My Hand.’ Your hand should be symbolic of a power and an energy from the Divine reaching to your soul. But you put your hand on the dunya and running after the dunya. So, this Ramadan can be a Ramadan for somebody out there that says, ‘No, ya Rabbi, I want to regain my hand with You. I want my hand to be of a generous nature, kind nature. I want my hands to feed and to give and to support.’ So, it means with every sense, Allah (AJ) can grant us the immensities of the lights of Ramadan, inshaAllah.
Subhana rabbika rabbal ‘izzati ‘amma yasifoon, wa salaamun ‘alal mursaleen, walhamdulillahi rabbil ‘aalameen. Bi hurmati Muhammad al-Mustafa wa bi siri Surat al-Fatiha.
