Sayyidina Khidr (as) Fed Nabi Musa (as) From the Oceans of Eternity
From the Realities of Mawlana (Q) as taught by Shaykh Nurjan Mirahmadi
أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ ٱلْرَّجِيمِ
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
A’uzu Billahi Minash Shaitanir Rajeem
Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem
I seek refuge in Allah (AJ) from the accursed Satan
In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
Alhamdulillahi Rabbil ‘aalameen, was salaatu was salaamu ‘alaa Ashrafil Mursaleen, Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammadul Mustafa ﷺ.
Always a reminder for myself, ana abdukal ‘ajeez, wa dayeef, wa miskin, wa zhalim, wa jahl, and but for the grace of Allah (AJ) that we’re still in existence.
أَطِيعُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُوا الرَّسُولَ وَأُولِي الْأَمْرِ مِنكُم… ﴿٥٩﴾ …
4:59 – “…Atiullaha wa atiur Rasula wa Ulil amre minkum…” (Surat an-Nisa)
“…Obey Allah, obey the Messenger, and those in authority among you…” (The Women, 4:59)
Allah (AJ) Taught the Names and Realities to Sayyidina Adam (as)
InshaAllah, we get to the qissah and the story of Sayyidina Musa (as) meeting with Sayyidina Khidr (as). InshaAllah, before that, Allah (AJ) gives a short version of when Allah (AJ) taught the names and the reality to Sayyidina Adam (as) and the fall from grace because this is the reality of inside the cave, the danger from outside and running from difficulties.
﴾وَعَلَّمَ آدَمَ الْأَسْمَاءَ كُلَّهَا ثُمَّ ﴿٣١
2:31 – “Wa ‘allama Adamal Asma a kullaha…” (Surat Al-Baqarah)
“And He taught Adam the names – all of them…” (The Cow, 2:31)
Then Allah (AJ) brings the example of Allah (AJ), of Sayyidina Adam (as), shaitan (satan) and the angels. Just always we teach by an example, very quickly, so people can understand. They can read later and go deeper into its understandings. The reality that in this before, the reality of guidance and meeting with the reality of Sayyidina Khidr (as).
Your Character is More Important Than the Knowledge You Hold
Allah (AJ) is warning by the story of Sayyidina Adam (as). That how the angels were taught knowledges and that the knowledges they taught were influencing their character. So, that Allah (AJ) wanted to give them an understanding. The angels who were acquiring and acquiring the knowledge, that not only the knowledge that is important, but more important is the character in which the person whom is conveying the knowledge.
That the water is pure, but the cup can be poisoned. That you take not only the knowledge that someone conveys to you, but you take their character, you take their demeanour. That’s what Allah (AJ) was showing to the angels that, ‘No doubt these knowledges are impressive, but let Me teach you a little bit about akhlaaq (character).’
Allah (AJ) Commanded the Angels to Bow Down to Sayyidina Adam (as)
He commanded ‘Bow down!’, brought the reality of Sayyidina Adam (as), taught knowledges. Sayyidina Adam (as) began to speak and say, ‘You should be astonished by these knowledges.’ Then Allah (AJ) told the angels for ihtiram and respect to Sayyidina Adam (as), ‘I want you to bow in respect to his presence’ because of the uloom and the knowledges.
2:34 – “Wa idh qulna lilmalayikati osjudo li Adama fasajado illa ibleesa aba wastakbara wa kana minal kafireen.” (Surat Al-Baqarah)
“And [mention] when We said to the angels, ‘Bow Down/make prostration to Adam’; so they prostrated, except for Iblis. He refused and was arrogant and became of the disbelievers/who reject faith.” (The Cow, 2:34)
Iblis was the Only One Who Didn’t Bow Down
So, here in this month of knowledge, “Subhanal ’Alimul Hakim”, Allah’s (AJ) saying, ‘How important knowledges are that when I sent that secret of knowledge into Sayyidina Adam (as), that I asked My angels because I’m going to test them now with what they thought they were being taught. I asked them to bow down to this knowledge and to the presence of Sayyidina Adam (as).’
They had to bow to the presence of Sayyidina Adam (as) and they called it an ihtiram (respect). It was the sujood (prostration) of ihtiram. So, there is such a thing of bowing in respect and Allah (AJ) is giving the example of that in Holy Qur’an. All the angels bowed except Iblis and those whom taught by Iblis. The angels astonished, they looked out of fear that he is not bowing. They bowed again and that’s why in our salah (daily prayer), we have two sujoods. We go down, we come up and then we go down again.
Angels Questioned Allah (AJ) After Being Influenced By Iblis
But the importance of that was Allah (AJ) wanted to show that the knowledge you’re getting from an arrogant teacher, he’s giving the character inside. That character was influencing their demeanour because angels don’t question. So, later when angels began to open their mouth and say that, ‘How you made this creation to be your khalifa (representative) when they’re going to create much bloodshed on Earth?’
2:30 – “Wa idh qala rabbuka lil Malayikati innee ja’ilun fil ardi khaleefatan, qaloo ataj’alu feeha man yufsidu feeha wa yasfikud dima a wa nahnu nusabbihu bihamdika wa nuqaddisu laka, Qala innee a’lamu ma la ta’lamon.” (Surat Al-Baqarah)
“And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, “Indeed, I will make upon the earth a Deputy/Representative.” They [angels] said, “Will You place upon it one who causes corruption/mischief therein and shed blood, while we praise and glorify You?” Allah said, “Indeed, I know that which you do not know.” (The Cow, 2:30)
The Glass You Drink From is as Important as What You Are Drinking
So, that’s a big no-no for angels. Why they had that characteristic is because the uloom and the knowledges they were getting was from the tainted reality of Iblis, of shaitan. That’s the danger that Allah (AJ) is saying: in this seeking of knowledges and the immensity of the reality of knowledges; that not only the knowledge is important, but they have to have a teaching of khuluq and character because the character is the glass in which you’re going to convey this knowledge to people.
If the character is mean, then all the students will have a mean demeanour. If the character is arrogant, then all the knowledges will make all the students to be arrogant. So, it means the glass in which we drink from is as important as what’s within the glass. Because either people are going to take the knowledges with the good character when Allah’s (AJ) not only impressed by what He is giving to Prophet ﷺ, but say “Khuluqin ‘azheem.” That your khuluq is of Allah’s (AJ) ‘Azim (Magnificent), ‘Of immensity of greatness I put within your character.’
﴾وَإِنَّكَ لَعَلَىٰ خُلُقٍ عَظِيمٍ ﴿٤
68:4 – “Wa innaka la’ala khuluqin ‘azheem.” (Surat Al-Qalam)
“Truly, You (O Muhammad!) are of a magnificent character.” (The Pen, 68:4)
Bahrul Hayat is an Angelic Source From Divinely Presence
That’s what this is emphasizing right before we go into the reality of guidance in this month of knowledge. So, this is the cave of knowledge. This is the cave of Hayat (ever-living) and eternity. This is the fountain of eternal youth because the youth and the hayat, the eternity of the ever-living is based on knowledge. So, Divinely knowledge and seeking of knowledge and the reality of energy and energy power with on the soul, its by-product is the knowledges of the Divine.
These are the angels that are flowing from an energy ocean. If somebody has energy or claims to have a power, but they have no knowledge, that’s not the same reality because this Bahrul Hayat (The Ocean of Ever-Living) is an angelic source from Divinely Presence. When the Bahrul Hayat and the ocean of eternity begins to open its mouth, all realities of angels are coming through. These are the uloom and the knowledges. That’s why it’s represented by Hay (The Ever-Living).
The Fountain of Eternity is Located in Surat Al-Kahf
It means in 18 and why the importance of the 18, 18 represents hayat. Ha is 8, ya is 10. So, when we say ‘Hay,’ it’s symbolized by the number of 18. So, then the second month is the secret of 18, 18th surah (chapter), Surat Al-Kahf. Hayat and eternity has to do with the secret of Surat Al-Kahf. Anyone looking for the fountain of eternity, it’s located in Surat Al-Kahf.
That’s why then this whole surah (chapter) is about entering into this fountain of eternity and understanding the realities of the fountain of eternity. So, the ha of Hay is the actual reality of hayat and Allah’s (AJ) eternal oceans. But attached to the Hay is a ya and we taught that in the secrets of Surat YaSeen ﷺ.
Each Letter From Alif to Ya is Represented By Angels
Ya is the secret for all knowledges. That from the alif all the way in the regular Arabic alphabet goes all the way to ya. Anyone whom Allah (AJ) give these 28 huroof (Arabic Letters), with each letter, Allah (AJ) gives them the secret. They have the secret of these kalaam (words) because with these 28 letters, you move them around. These are the secrets of our spoken language. These are the secrets of this spoken word.
So, anyone whom Allah (AJ) want to bestow upon them from the oceans of sainthood and knowledge, Allah (AJ) make these 28 and 29 with laam-alif; 28 letters to fill their heart. So, each letter is represented by angels that enter into their soul and fill their reality. As a result, Allah (AJ) grants them this hay, grants them the ya. That every…from all the way from alif to the ya is given to them.
All Knowledges are Encapsulated Between Alif and Ya
As a result, we described when you write the ya, it contains all the way from the ya all the way to the alif; all encapsulated is all uloom (knowledges) in ya. So, when Allah (AJ) want to give the servant knowledges, He grants them the reality of ya into their soul. That every letter, with all its angelic realities, enters into their soul and begins to teach them so that when they merely look at these letters of Qur’an, the angel within its reality begins to teach them and inspire within their heart that, ‘This alif is for this reality. This ya is for this reality. This ha is for this reality.’
Because these are all like the mixing elements of Allah’s (AJ) Divinely kingdom. So, ‘hay’ is contained by Allah’s (AJ) ocean of eternity. Attached to it, Allah (AJ) granted the ocean of knowledges. That’s why in this month of Safar, “’Alimul Hakim.” That Allah (AJ) saying that, ‘In this month, when you go into this fountain of eternity, I’ve attached to it ancient knowledges.’
Sayyidina Musa (as) Went to a Knowledgeable One Who Reached Eternity
That’s why when Sayyidina Musa (as) wanted of a higher understanding, he went to one of the servants who reached eternity. That servant is known for immensity of knowledges. That’s how you’re connecting 18 and the ocean of hayat. This is a reality of…above that cave is like a hayat saying, ‘This is a fountain of eternity. You drink from this, you become eternal.’
Not that you walk on the Earth eternally; nobody wants to live forever on this Earth. But their soul becomes an eternal soul. Their uloom and their knowledges of which they speak have no time and they’re of a powerful eternity. That as soon as somebody hears it, they’ll be dressed from it. They’ll be living it, breathing it, and drinking from it.
Realities Before Nabi Musa (as) Meets Sayyidina Khidr (as) (Holy Qur’an, 18:60-65)
So, the immensity of that ocean of eternity is dressing them. Then Allah (AJ) is describing then in this pardeh (veil), in this hijab that dressing upon Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ is then “’Alimul Hakim.” That, these are the reality and the way towards Divinely knowledges and hikmah and wisdom. Then the meeting with Sayyidina Khidr (as). InshaAllah, we can recite from Surat Al-Kahf, 60, verse 60 to 65, inshaAllah.
Reciter : “A’uzu Billahi Minash Shaitanir Rajeem. Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem. Wa idh qala Mosa lefatahu laa abrahu hatta ablugha majma’a albahrayni aw amdiya huquba. 18:60-65 – “Wa idh qala Mosa lefatahu laa abrahu hatta ablugha majma’a albahrayni aw amdiya huquba. “Behold, Moses said to his attendant, I will not give up until I reach the junction of the two seas or (until) I spend years and years in travel. (60) But when they reached the Junction, they forgot (about) their Fish, which took its course through the sea (straight) as in a tunnel. (61) So when they had passed beyond it, [Moses] said to his boy, “Bring us our morning meal. We have certainly suffered in this, our journey, [much] fatigue. (62) He said, “Did you see when we retired to the rock? Indeed, I forgot [there] the fish. And none made me forget it except Satan – that I should mention it. And it took its course into the sea amazingly (63) Moses said: “That was what we were seeking after:” So they went back on their footsteps, following (the path they had come). (64) So they found one of Our servant from among Our servants, on whom We had bestowed Mercy from Ourselves and whom We had taught [unseen/heavenly] knowledge from Our own Presence…” (The Cave, 18:60-65)
Shaykh Nurjan Mirahmadi : Sadaqallahul ‘azim, wa barakah Rasulul Kareem (The Most Generous Messenger).
Nabi Musa (as) Sought the Two Seas of La Ilaha Illallah and Muhammadun RasulAllah ﷺ
That the immensity of ayatul kareem (the generous verse of Holy Qur’an) that Allah (AJ) mentions to Sayyidina Musa (as), said to his servant, ‘I will not cease traveling until I reach the junction of the two seas.’ (Holy Qur’an, 18:60) We said before the two seas is the reality of ‘La illaha illallah’ connecting to ‘Muhammadun Rasulallah ﷺ.’
لَا إِلَهَ إلاَّ اللهُ مُحَمَّدٌا رَسُولْ الله
“La ilaha illallahu Muhammadun Rasulallah”
“There is no deity but Allah, Prophet Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.”
The Forgotten Dead Fish Came Back to Life and Jumped Into the Water
That, ‘I want these knowledges and these realities,’ but when they reached the junction between them, they forgot the fish. There was a fish that had been fried, ready to be eaten. They forgot that fish. It took its course in a slippery way into the sea. When they went and passed beyond, Moses (as) said to Yashua, the boy that was accompanying him, ‘Bring us this meal that we have and we certainly have tired and hungry on this journey.’
When they put that cooked fish on the rock, it came to life. It came to life and went into the ocean. Yashua then clarified for him and he said, ‘Did you see that when we went to that rock, indeed, I forgot and I put the fish; none other than shaitan made me to forget to tell you, that I should have mentioned it. That it took its course and went into the sea amazingly.’
Nabi Musa (as) Had to Retrace His Steps After Being Distracted By Shaitan
Because the translation is not very good in English, but he says, ‘It’s ajeeb (strange). The fish came to life and went into the water. Nothing but shaitan made me to forget to tell you this event that’s happening.’ Then they found, then he said, ‘Okay, ohh…’ Now Moses (as) said that, ‘This is what we were seeking – fa Qaala zaalika maa kunnaa nabghi; fartaddu. For verily this, this sign that you’re describing of a dead coming to life, this is what I was looking for. So that, let us return and follow our footsteps and find where that rock was where the fish came to life.’

Sayyidina Khidr (as) Attained Rahmah to Become Closer to the Reality of Prophet ﷺ
There they found one of Allah’s (AJ) servants, “abdan min ‘ibadinaa,” whom attained the rahmah (mercy). This is again, in this tariqah (spiritual path) and the way of haqqaiqs (realities), this is the formula for reaching realities. It’s not what they’re doing now, but the way that Allah (AJ) wanted is that they attained a rahmah first. So, they have to be in the schools of how to attain rahmah which is how to attain the nearness to the character and the love and the reality of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. For what is the rahmah of Allah (AJ) other than the reality of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ.
18:65 – “Fawajada ‘abdan min ‘ibadinaa ataynahu rahmatan min ‘indina wa ‘allamnahu mil ladunna ‘ilma.” (Surat Al-Kahf)
“So they found one of Our servant from among Our servants, on whom We had bestowed Mercy from Ourselves and whom We had taught [unseen/heavenly] knowledge from Our own Presence…” (The Cave, 18:65)
Sayyidina Khidr (as) Carries Divinely Knowledge and Wisdom of the Righteous
‘One of our servants whom We had given and attained the rahmah and We taught from him knowledges of certainty.’ “Wa ‘allamnahu mil ladunna ‘ilma.” That he… that taught from Our presence these ‘Ilm e Laduni wa hikmati bis Saliheen (Divinely Knowledge and Wisdom of the Righteous)’ because this is the month of knowledge. This is what Sayyidina Musa (as) wanted. That he wanted of a higher reality.
That, speaking all his life and in his risalat (prophecy) to Allah (AJ) through a pardeh, through a veil and still wanting to seek a higher reality knowing that there is a higher reality than from his nation’s reality. He wanted from the reality of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ and the immensity of that reality.
It’s Not Obvious When You Meet a Rijal
So, then he sets off that, ‘I will go where these two rivers meet.’ Take a physical journey to reach my spiritual reality. That’s why we are saaliks in the path. We are people whom walk on a daily basis, struggling. Each struggle is opening a Divine reality. So, you move on Earth busying yourself, going through your family difficulties, life difficulties, work difficulties, and Allah’s (AJ) opening something from paradise.
Then teaching for us that what type of reality are we going to be reaching? Sayyidina Musa (as) is walking and they passed it. So, that how come they didn’t see Sayyidina Khidr (as) sitting there? They came to a point in which Allah (AJ) is then giving a sign for believers, that, ‘Don’t think it’s going to be obvious to meet one of these rijal’ (people of maturity) where they just sit there with like a feather in their hair and, ‘Hi, I’m going to bring you to life.’ He walked, he passed and passed even the miracle.
RijalAllah Can Revive Dead Hearts
So, the first walk in it and the first direction of it, Allah (AJ) is then teaching: a sign of it is Bahrul Hayat. That these servants, they have the ability to revive the dead. Their mere presence, you don’t even have to see them, for he [Sayyidina Musa (as)] didn’t even see him [Sayyidina Khidr (as)]. But those whom are attentive and looking and searching for the reality, they should witness things coming to life. That there’s a force of life all around them.
All their knowledges and all their teachings, that you merely read it, absorb it, begin to enter into it and it begin to revive the heart. It brings that which is dead back to life in Allah’s (AJ) way. That which is dead in dunya (material world) and wants to come back to life, only for the sake of dunya; no, they’re not talking about that. They’re talking about when the situation is of an emptiness and they’re yearning for the reality of Allah (AJ). They’re yearning for their souls reality. Allah (AJ) then directs them into these fountains.
Sayyidina Khidr (as) is the Green Shaykh, Representing Resurrection
As soon as they pass by that fountain – whatever knowledges they take from them, whatever they read from them, whatever video they watch from them, whatever book they read from them – these are fountains of life flowing through. As a result of that fountain of life flowing through to them, their soul comes alive. ‘Muhyil qulub’ (reviver of hearts) and this is from the reality of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ.
Mahidh dhunub (eraser of sins), wa muhyil qulub – the one who revives everything. Because Sayyidina Khidr (as) represents the green shaykh. Why green? Because of resurrection. Sayyidina Khidr (as) is in the Naqshbandi tariqah, in the Golden Chain of Naqshbandiya and his secret is flowing through the Naqshbandi shaykhs on this Earth.
Wear Green in Safar to Resurrect Yourself to Receive Divinely Knowledges
That same Muhammadan dress and the representation of Prophet ﷺ, that’s why they said, ‘Wear green in this month.’ Why wear green in this month? Because this is the month of knowledges and resurrection. This is the month of Sayyidina Khidr (as) conveying knowledges to the souls of people. That as soon as you remember these awliyaullah (saints), Sayyidina Abbas Khidr (as), these knowledges are flowing. Their lights are flowing into the servants that have that love and seeking that reality.
They’re asking to be dressed by these knowledges. Allah (AJ) is saying then, ‘The first sign’ because you didn’t yet train yourself to see them because that’s why the first pass you go is then the sign of knowledge of light, of life. Everything comes alive. Their associations are alive. Their faces are alive. Their energies are alive. Everything is just shining from them and those whom are with them.
When You Connect Your Heart, You’ll Know Who You’re Connecting With
Everywhere you go is a living event because this Bahrul Hayat, from the heart of Prophet ﷺ, is flowing. Every knowledge that been taught is a fountain of eternity upon the soul of the one whom is absorbing that reality. Then later, they went, retrace their footsteps and then saw Sayyidina Khidr (as) and saw the reality of it. Then Allah (AJ) clarified that, ‘They met one of Our servants.’ That he’s not the only one.
It means that with what type of training that we come back and in our heart and in our connection and in our tafakkur (contemplation), then Allah (AJ) says, ‘At time, if you connect your heart, you’ll know who you’re connecting with.’ You’ll see that servant who had attained a rahmah (mercy).
Hu-Men Cannot Be Seen With the Eye of Dunya
As a result, attained a rahmah (mercy), the knowledges he teaches you is from the knowledges of hu because the reality of that hu, “wa ‘allamnahu.” Is that, “allamna-hu?” “Hu” is giving the “allamn” and the ilm (knowledge). So, they are ‘hu-men,’ whom in the presence of hu is conveying these knowledges. But that can’t be seen with a dunya (material world) eye.
You just passed them, say, ‘I don’t see this person as anything.’ But these are for the people whom they sit and they train and they connect their heart. They purify their heart. They leave the station of heedlessness and they witness it. That’s what’s important is that they begin to connect and witness.
Go Back and Retrace Your Steps Without Being Heedless
Allah (AJ) then is describing for us, ‘This is a fountain of life.’ These knowledges, coming from this cave and from this reality of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ, are the fountains of all eternity and all realities. Then Sayyidina Musa (as), in that connection because this is the unseen guide, Sayyidina Khidr (as), was unseen. That’s why they passed him on the first pass.
Later, they came back with more carefulness. In the ‘carefulness’ means, then this is an isharat for us is then in our life, we make our connection. We have to make the connection. When we make the connection, we begin to understand who are we in an association with, what are these lights and what are these realities. Because Allah (AJ) is then saying we’re becoming heedless. We don’t understand what we’re doing. We don’t understand who we’re with. We don’t understand the knowledges that are coming. By the time you do understand, it may be too late in our lives.
Nabi Musa (as) Sought to Be Rushd, to Grow
That’s why this way of tafakkur and contemplation is to contemplate so that these knowledges can be conveyed. ‘And may I…’ Sayyidina Musa (as), ‘May I follow you on a condition that you teach me from what you have been taught?’ ‘Not of sound judgment’ is in the English, but “rushdan,” they’re ‘rushd’ (grow). It means that these knowledges and these realities, they ‘rushd.’ They bring and ripen a person towards the oceans of perfection.
﴾قَالَ لَهُ مُوسَىٰ هَلْ أَتَّبِعُكَ عَلَىٰ أَن تُعَلِّمَنِ مِمَّا عُلِّمْتَ رُشْدًا ﴿٦٦
18:66 – “Qala lahu Musa hal attabi’uka ‘alaa an tu’allimani mimma ‘ullimta rushda.” (Surat Al-Kahf)
“Moses said to him: May I follow you, on the footing/condition that you teach me something of the (Higher) Truth which you have been taught?” (The Cave, 18:66)
Naqshbandiya is in the School of Inner Realities
Because these are the schools of adab (manners) and they teach these realities that ripen and perfect the character and the reality of the person from their inner being, being perfected with lights and knowledges so that that inner being can perfect their outer appearance. So, it’s more focused on the inner reality. Naqshbandiya is in the school of the inner reality. That they should be focusing on the uloom and the knowledges and the character.
That reaching to the soul and when the soul is empowered, enlightened and taught, then that powerful soul can begin to discipline the physicality. So, they’re not like other places where they just work on the physicality. Everybody is just, you know, in a physical thing. They look really good, but they don’t know anything.
The Naqshbandi Chain is Based on an Inner Connection to Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ
So, this reality, from Sayyidina Khidr (as), that passed all the way down to Sayyidina Mawlana Shah Naqshband (Q), through all of our shaykhs to Mawlana Shaykh (Q) is that the inner connection. That, ‘They attained the rahmah.’
That their inner soul is in the presence and connected to the reality of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. As a result of that rahmah (mercy), then they be taught these uloom and these knowledges. Then their outer reality will become perfected as a result of that.
