Sha’ban Reminds Us to Stay Firm on Our Tariqah (Holy Qur’an, 72:16)
Alhamdulillah, for the holy month of Sha’ban and the Holy Qur’an, surah (chapter) 72 named Jinn and the immensity of its lights and its guidance. The Holy Qur’an being guidance of our lives and our existence, our soul. InshaAllah, Hajji Shahid we read verses, 72, 16 and 17 from surah 72, inshaAllah.

72:16-17 – “Wa alla wis taqaamoo ‘alat tareeqati la asqaynaahum maa’an ghadaqaa (16) Linaftinahum feeh; wa many yu’rid ‘an zikri rabbihee yasluk hu ‘azaaban sa’ada (17)” (Surat Al-Jinn)
“And [ Allah revealed] that: “If they had only remained firm on their tariqa (straight path), We would have bestowed on them Rain/water in abundance. (16) So We might test them therein. And whoever turns away from the remembrance of his Lord He will put into arduous punishment. (17)” (The Jinn, 72:16)
Shaykh Nurjan Mirahmadi: SadaqAllahul ‘azheem wa barakah Rasulul Kareem (The Most Generous Messenger). Alhamdulillah, that when we come to this point in the year, a reminder always for ourselves that Allah (AJ) is mentioning in the holy month of Sha’ban, the holy month of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ, tariqah (spiritual path). When the people who have an anger in their heart always saying, ‘Where is tariqah? Where is tariqah?’ Here’s tariqah, Qur’an. So, our anime people can show tariqah in Qur’an. It’s right here on the holy month of Sha’ban and the holy surah 72.
Allah’s (AJ) Throne is Upon Water (Holy Qur’an, 11:7)
Allah (AJ) giving in verse 16, and when you read the different tafsirs (interpretations), you see how much they put into words that are not there. That this is a message to Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. That Allah (AJ) saying, ‘If they had only stayed upon their tariqah,’ they translated in so many different words but Allah (AJ) clearly using the tariqah. ‘If they stay, istiqamo fi tariqatit. If you stay firm upon your tariqah, We would have certainly bestowed upon you an abundant flowing of water.’
The immensity of the flowing of water from tariqah, asqaynaahum that, ‘We would have given to them’. Remember the word for water is mai, and the immensity upon Allah (AJ) describe, ‘My Throne was upon mai,’ and mai is meem, and alif.
11:7 – “Wa huwal ladhee khalaqas samawati wal arda fee sittati ayyamin, wa kana ‘arshuhu ‘alal maa ye liyabluwakum ayyukum ahsanu ‘amalan,…” (Surat Hud)
“And it is He who created the heavens and the earth in six days – and His Throne had been upon water – that He might test you as to which of you is best in deed…” (Hud, 11:7)
Allah (AJ) Will Always Be Known By the Meem of Muhammadun RasulAllah ﷺ
It means that any time we’re looking at meem and alif like “La ilaha illAllah Muhammadun Rasulallah ﷺ”.
“La ilaha illallahu Muhammadun Rasulallah”
“There is no deity but Allah, Prophet Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.”
That this secret that Allah (AJ) giving in which we…our dunya (material world), we call it mai. We say that water is a source of all life. What is water in the world of light? It doesn’t rain up there. So, it means that mai and Muhammad ﷺ and Allah (AJ). Allah (AJ) and Muhammad ﷺ is the secret of life. The La ilaha illAllah is a hidden treasure and is always hidden. Every time, at every moment, at every second and millisecond and whatever type of measurement, creation is coming into existence. When Allah (AJ) is a treasure wanting to be known, will always be known by the meem – Muhammadun Rasulallah ﷺ.
Qala Rasulallahi ﷺ, Qala Allah (AJ): “Kuntu kanzan makhfiyya, fa ahbabtu an a’rafa, fa khalaqtu khalqan, fa ‘arraftahum bi fa ‘arafonee.”
[Hadith al Qudsi – Behar al Anwar, Al ‘Alama al Majlisi, Juz’ 84, Safha 199]
The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said, that Allah (AJ) said: “I was a hidden Treasure then I desired to be known, so I created a creation to which I made Myself known; then they knew Me.” [Holy Hadith – Bihar al Anwar, by Al ‘Alama al Majlisi, Volume 84, Page 199]
Allah’s (AJ) ‘Izzatullah is Never Seen and Has No Likeness
So, the secret of mai that we say, the emanations, the faiz (downpouring blessings), the blessings. Oh, when the water comes, it’s a rahmah (mercy) but in the world of light, it’s the secrets of lights and tajallis (manifestations) that has ‘Izzatullah (Allah’s (AJ) Might and Magnificence) and Haqiqatul Muhammadiya (the Muhammadan Reality) and the realities of the Muhammadan Nur (light). Because ‘Izzatullah cannot be seen, has no partner, has no likeness. You can’t say, ‘Oh, here comes a lightning, this is ‘Izzatullah.’ Allah (AJ) has no shekl, has no form, no likeness.
So, it means ‘Izzatullah is never seen. When the manifestation is going to come, tajalli (manifestation) is going to come in the world of malakut (heavenly realm), it must be under meem, under Muhammadun Rasulallah ﷺ. So, in this holy month of Sha’ban, Allah (AJ) giving this is the month of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ and its secrets and its realities in Nisf e Sha’ban (Mid Sha’ban). The manifestation of the secret that Allah (AJ) wanted to be known in Rajab, and now we’re getting to understand that will be known through Muhammadun Rasulallah ﷺ. Then Allah (AJ) giving to us that, ‘If they had stayed firm upon their tariqah, their path to the heart of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ, We would have granted them the abundance of this mai and its immense realities of ‘Izzatullah manifesting when it wants to dress the servant through Nurul Muhammad ﷺ (light of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ). We would have given them to drink from these fountains and these realities’.
Allah (AJ) Warns Us to Stay Firm on Tariqah Because It’s Not Easy
It means the dress because these are spoken to a people of dunya (material world), but from the people of malakut (heavenly realm). What is there to drink when it’s not physical? It’s the action of being dressed by lights. The greatest gift in the heavens is lights; lights that purify you, lights that absolve you from punishment and difficulties, lights that magnify you and raise you. Everything is based on lights whether it’s cleaning you, purifying you, or if you’re beyond that point, then you’re being raised and magnifying you to new stations and new heights.
For every light has its knowledges, its realities, and its access into the higher realms of consciousness and realities. Everything in our lives, Allah (AJ) in the next verse is saying that…why istiqamo fi tariqat? Because your tariqah is not going to be easy. If it was easy, Allah (AJ) wouldn’t have made a reference to stay firm. It means our life on this path towards the heart of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ, to the rida, the satisfaction and the love of Allah (AJ). Allah (AJ) is reminding, ‘Hold firm.’ Why? Because it’s not an easy path. It’s not just the complete rose petals for everybody.
Don’t Turn Away From the Zikr of Allah (AJ)
As a reminder, that it’s going to be a continuous state of struggling. Then Allah (AJ) reminds of its rewards and that they may be tested and tried, but don’t ever turn away. Now, why you know this is tariqah (spiritual path), is that Allah (AJ) is now mentioning zikrullah (remembrance of Allah (AJ)) because the tariqahs make zikrullah. The other people, they don’t accept zikrullah.
So, this turuqs and the tariqah that you’re on, don’t turn from it. You’re reaching towards the Muhammadan lights, Muhammadan realities from ‘Izzatullah, biznillah – by the permission of Allah (AJ), dressing His servants with Muhammadan haqqaiqs and all of that. Hold firm because you were going to be tested. Whatever you do, don’t turn away from the zikr of Allah (AJ), the remembrance, the praising, the halaqas (circles), the zikr of Allah (AJ). He will cause you to go and undergo a severe penalty. It means that the immensity of the tariqahs (spiritual path) and the reward and the Muhammadan haqqaiqs are not something that you walk away from.
Shaykhs’ Responsibility is to Remind Us of the Bounties Allah (AJ) Has Given
When Allah (AJ) give you a bounty, but a bounty maybe people don’t know what that gift is. It’s the shaykh’s responsibility to remind people. When we talk about these high levels and realities and emanations and people may ask that, ‘Why, Shaykh, you always have talk about such high levels?’ To remind ourselves of the immensity of this gift. If you think it’s a kindergarten, you treat it like kindergarten. But if you begin to understand that it’s the most blessed gift Allah (AJ) can give, the most blessed treasure that Allah (AJ) can give to a servant is the knowledges and the proximity to His most beloved creation, a creation in which Allah (AJ) wants to be known from. It means you’re drawing closer to Allah (AJ).
Allah (AJ) is giving all these immense treasures and blessings and reminding that plant your feet firm on your path. These treasures are worth living and dying for. These are not things that you walk away from. Then the verse that describing because people say, ‘Oh no, the istiqamo fi tariqah means this.’ The next verse clarifies who this is because who are the tariqahs? They sit and they make zikrullah, majlis e sali alan Nabi ﷺ (association of praising upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ), and this is why everyone attack them.
You Are Flying Your Highest When Keeping Up With Your Salawats and Zikrs
Why you have to make zikrullah? Allah (AJ) is describing that these people of tariqah (spiritual path): don’t leave your zikr. The abandonment of the praising upon Allah (AJ) and praising upon His most beloved servant which is the true zikr of Allah (AJ). The salawat (praises upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ) and durood sharif (praising on Prophet Muhammad ﷺ) is the zikr of Allah (AJ); not the zikr “Allah”, but the recitations of what the Divinely Presence is reciting. That all of the Divine and all of the Divine creatures, what we call angels, they are making salawat sharif, durood sharif, salawat an Nabi ﷺ. It is the power of the heavens. Every angel that comes into existence and everything that manifesting is under durood sharif and salawat upon Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ.
Allah (AJ) reminding the people of ma’rifah (gnosticism) that you’re drawing near. Don’t leave your zikr to your own detriment, an immense penalty because you’re flying high. It’s the jet fuel of your reality. It’s not so much that Allah (AJ) is trying to scare us, but remind us: when you’re flying that high, you have that much lights and blessings coming upon you. If you think for a moment that you leave it, shaitans are waiting to eat you. Every type of difficulty is going to approach to you. It’s like running out of fuel in the middle of the sky thinking you just, you’re achieving all of this by yourself and your greatness. Awliya (saints) coming and reminding: no, it’s the durood sharif. It’s the salawats upon Prophet ﷺ that draw us near. If you leave that as if you cut yourself from the ship and you begin to float to the abyss of nothingness; not the nothingness of annihilating yourself. The nothingness as if you cease to exist. Our existence is in the light of Muhammadun Rasulallah ﷺ and is the way of our ma’rifah (gnosticism).
Seeing Treasures Where Others See Nothing is From Allah (AJ), Not Your Cleverness
The immensities of the lights of Sha’ban, the lights of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ, and that Allah (AJ) giving to us the tariqah is very much in the Qur’an, but they don’t have eyes to see and their ears don’t hear. So, what can you do for people whom they see the same book as us, but they don’t see it? As when they looked to the cave and they didn’t see the signs of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. Allah (AJ) has to grant a vision to the heart and to the eyes of creation. You can look at a person and say they’re nothing, but they may be dear to Allah (AJ). The ni’mat and the blessings of Allah (AJ) and the prayers of humble servants is, ‘Ya Rabbi, grant my eyes to always see Your signs. That grant my ears to always hear Your signs and make me to be of the humble servants so that I don’t miss Your signs, miss the signs of Your muhabbat and ishq.’
This is the great gift that Allah (AJ) gives to servants. How do some people see something, identify, and recognize, and others come across the same and it’s nothing for them? It’s not a cleverness in the heart of somebody, but it’s a gift from God Almighty that Allah (AJ) grant the servant a humility within their eyes. That they can see. They see something is special there, a treasure is there. [It] Grants them a clarity on hearing when they can hear a reality and says, ‘This must be something here. I may not understand it.’
Signs Upon This Path are Subtle, Not Like Obvious Highway Signs
In most cases, people come not understanding anything, but what they do understand is that they should be getting it and with patience and humility, they sit long enough to begin to comprehend until Allah (AJ) opens the heart of the servant. That with our actions and istiqam and holding firm to the tariqah, holding firm to the ways of guidance and following the manners of guidance. That this is what opens the path. It’s not the knowledge where somebody reads books on the etiquette of tariqahs and they read and read and they think they will achieve by that only, but to have the humility within our hearts and the good character within our hearts. ‘Ya Rabbi, I’m coming on this path of love. I’m coming on this path of manners. Grant me good manners that You be pleased with. Grant me goodness of my manner and character that Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ to be pleased with’.
We said before, ‘Grant my eyes to see the truth and be humble enough to be able to perceive the treasures that are coming and my ears to have the humility of hearing that I know when I hear something, that there’s a treasure from Allah (AJ) present and for me to perceive it, capture it, and bring it within my reality.’ The path is based on subtlety. It’s not always the open obvious that comes before your face and you say, ‘I’ll get it. I’ll get it.’ It may be just a simple little isharat (sign) like a sign on a highway that you didn’t pay attention to. Our life is like that. People are expecting. This is an analogy that you’re going fast on a highway and Allah (AJ) is going to put big, big signs so you don’t miss the exit.
Slow Down to Seek the Subtlety of the Connection Within Your Heart
We described it’s not really that way. The proof was when Sayyidina Musa (as) was walking fast, maybe distracted, and he passed the sign that he was looking for. He had to recapture his route, go back because the sign was hidden. Sayyidina Khidr (as) was a hidden messenger of Allah (AJ), veiled. So, it was not something you would perceive as an open billboard on a highway. But the seeker is the one whom seeks through the subtlety of the connection within their heart, the ability to perceive these subtle guidances and then to look for the signs in our life. Our life is about going slow, looking at signs. Anything you go too fast in, you’ll miss it. Not all people have the gift from Allah (AJ) to miss and to come back.
Many people, when they miss, they are going so fast that they just continue to go and they missed it. The gift from Allah (AJ) is to approach these realities slow, slow and consistent, always looking for signs, always paying attention to the subtlety of the heart. That in every action I do, is it pleasing to Allah (AJ)? Is it pleasing to Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ? Is it pleasing to my shaykh? Don’t try to only please Allah (AJ) to the detriment of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ and to your shaykh because these are locked. Some people think they are doing good, but for Allah (AJ). We learned in our life: no, no, no. You have to make sure that you’re doing good for Allah (AJ) and that Prophet ﷺ is happy with you and that your shaykh is happy in your adab and your manners.
Our Life is Based on Obeying Allah (AJ), Obeying Prophet ﷺ and Obeying Those in Authority (Holy Qur’an, 4:59)
In our life, everything we did and do is based on that. At any point, something is not correct. Then we make our connection, make our tafakkur, make our contemplation and see which one would be offended by that action. Then that is the litmus test of our life to run correctly because how could you please Allah (AJ), please your Prophet ﷺ, but betray your shaykh? What is the benefit of that? What Prophet ﷺ wants with the servant who betrays his shaykh or doesn’t care for the value of the shaykh? It means in everything that we do, it’s based on these three. If we live our life on these realities of “Atiullah,” that’s why Allah (AJ) saying, “Atiullah, atiur Rasul wa Ulil amre minkum”.
4:59 – “…Atiullaha wa atiur Rasula wa Ulil amre minkum…” (Surat An-Nisa)
“… Obey Allah, Obey the Messenger, and those in authority among you…” (The Women, 4:59)
This is a lock, a key with like, three things on it. That the key has to have all three that goes in for this ata and this obedience to unlock its realities. This how we govern our life. The complete tafakkur and contemplation and as a result, if we can keep the three in honour, keep the adab and manners of the three. That I’m obeying Allah (AJ), I’m obeying the shaykh, and I’m trying my best for my obedience and loyalty to the shaykh, to Prophet ﷺ and to the shaykh. We find ourselves with the best of manners, the best of character. The subtlety of consciousness within ourselves begins to open and Allah (AJ) begin to open more and more treasures within the heart. These treasures come from the goodness of character, not the cleverness of character and only comes from the goodness of character.
Subhana rabbika rabbal ‘izzati ‘amma yasifoon, wa salaamun ‘alal mursaleen, walhamdulillahi rabbil ‘aalameen. Bi hurmati Muhammad al-Mustafa ﷺ wa bi siri Surat al-Fatiha.
