Fast Everyday With All Your Five Senses to Reach Moral Excellence
16:128 – “Yaa ayyu hal Muminonal hadiroon, ittaqullaha ta’ala wa ati’o. “InnAllaha ma’al lazeena ittaqaw, wal lazeena hum muhsinoon.” (Surat An-Nahl)
“For Allah is with those who restrain themselves, and those who achieve a state of excellence.” (The Bee, 16:128)
Alhamdulillah, that alhamdulillah coming out of the holy month of Ramadan, 30 days of abstaining. What Allah (AJ) just quoted from Holy Qur’an – reminder for us that Allah (AJ) with those who restrain themselves and those who achieve a state of moral excellence, muhsinoon.
That this 30 days of fasting, 30 days in which to abstain from food and water and drink. And awliyaullah (saints) come into our life and remind us that abstaining in all our five senses to reach moral excellence. That we fast a continuous fast. Some people fast 30 days, Ramadan finish, and they go back to every type of desire that their body wants. And awliyaullah and pious inheritors of the way come and remind us that this fast is just beginning. What they want for us is to fast everyday with all five senses.
What You Hear and See Affects the Condition of Your Heart
Fast with our ears. Take a life in which we are continuously trying to clean what we hear. Abstain from what we don’t need to hear because what you hear going to affect the heart and the condition of the heart, the cleanliness of the heart.
Then remind us that you have to fast with your eyes. It’s not just Ramadan but this is muttaqeen (those with high level of consciousness). They want us to inherit from the way of the muttaqeen in which they fast all their life with their eyes. Watch what your eyes see. Take a life in which your eyes are lowered. State you are lower and that you don’t need to have eyes that are hungry that, ‘Ya Rabbi, let me to be busy with where my feet are taking me.’
The Eyes are the Secret of Our Desires
If these eyes are left uncontrolled, the eyes are the secret of your desires. This is related to the hawa (desires) and the condition of the heart. The hawa and what you want and what you desire in life are the eyes. If the eyes are roaming and searching, the hawa of the being will grow.
So, they remind us that take a way in which your eyes and your gaze is lowered. That take a time in which you close your eyes and remind yourself that, ‘Ya Rabbi, I’m going to die in this world one day. And all I’m going take with me are my good deeds and my good actions. I don’t need to see the world and all its beauty all the time. Let me to see Your heavenly world and Your heavenly kingdom within my heart.’
Fast With All Senses and Come Out Pure Like a Newborn in Eid
Then they begin to teach that your sense of your touch and your feeling. Your sense of your hearing, your sense of your seeing, the sense of our taste and what we taste in life. This means to fast with all our senses. And that we live a life in which, ‘Ya Rabbi, this Ramadan is merely a beginning.’ Make it to be because Ramadan, it’s reality is that Allah (AJ) destroy all the sins of insan (human being) as soon as he enter into a state of siyam (fasting). As soon as he enters into fasting, Allah (AJ) begin to destroy all the bad characteristics, all the sins that shaitan (satan) tried to put upon the body, upon insan. Allah (AJ) destroy all of that. And they come out on Eid like newborn baby souls; pure and purified with Allah’s (AJ) rida and satisfaction.
‘An ‘Abdur Rahman bin ‘Awf qala, qala Rasulullahi ﷺ: “Inna Ramadana shahrun aftarada Allahu ‘Azza wa Jalla Siyamahu. Wa inni sanantu lil Muslimina qiyamahu. Faman samahu Imanan wahtesaban, kharaja minaz zunubi kayawmi waladathu Ummuhu.” [Musnad Ahmad bin Hanbal 1621]
‘Abdur Rahman bin ‘Awf narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said,
“Verily, Ramadan is a month in which Allah Almighty has made its fasting an obligation. And I established its Qiyam (nightly devotion and prayers) as my sunnah for the Muslims. So whoever fasts in it out of faith and in hope of reward, will be rid of his sins like the day he was born from his mother.” [Source: Musnad Aḥmad Ibn Hanbal 1621]
Then awliyaullah (saints) come into our life and describe that make your Ramadan everyday. Take a way in which, ‘Ya Rabbi, let me to live a life of fasting with all my senses to the best of my ability, so that Your rida and satisfaction be upon me. That what You dress me from Ramadan, let me to achieve it’s greatness and its blessings, it’s realities. What You dressed me from Holy Qur’an, let my soul to feel it and my body to realize all of its blessings.’
Forgiveness is Through Allah’s (AJ) Grace & Mercy
We pray that Allah (AJ) dress us and bless us. Forgive us anything that we’ve done wrong. That accept in Eid ul Fitr, that that Zakatul Fitr (charity of breaking fast), that it cleansed everything of impurities. Ya Rabbi, we come through the door of humility and the love for Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. Accept all our actions, ana abdukal ‘ajeez, wa dayeef, wa miskin, wa zhalim, wa jahl. And but by the Grace of Allah (AJ), the rahmah (mercy) of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ that Allah (AJ) forgive us and accept our deeds and accept us and accept this Ramadan and dress upon our soul, inshaAllah. “Aqolu qawli hadha, wastaghfirullah al ‘Azeem, liwa lakum, wa li saayiril Muslimina, fa yaa fawzan lil mustaghfireena, astaghfirullah.”
Aqolu qawli hadha, wastaghfirullah al ‘Azeem, liwa lakum, wa li saayiril Muslimina, fa yaa fawzan lil mustaghfireena, astaghfirullah.
“I say this and I asked Allah (AJ) the magnificent for forgiveness for myself and for you, for those who submit to Allah (AJ) so to invoke His forgiveness, for He is most forgiving and most merciful. May Allah (AJ) forgive us.” Ameen.
Subhana rabbika rabbal ‘izzati ‘amma yasifoon, wa salaamun ‘alal mursaleen, walhamdulillahi rabbil ‘aalameen. Bi hurmati Muhammad al-Mustafa wa bi siri Surat al-Fatiha.
