
Realities of The Face, Presence, Essence
From the Realities of Mawlana Shaykh (Q) as taught by Shaykh Nurjan Mirahmadi
A’udhu Billahi Minash Shaitanir Rajeem
Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem
I seek refuge in Allah from Satan, the rejected one
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Everything Perishes But the Holy Face – It’s Eternal
The holy Face, the holy presence and the essence within that presence. And Allah reminding that, “…kullu shayin halikun illa wajha”, ‘That everything perishes but, the holy face.’
﴾كُلُّ شَيْءٍ هَالِكٌ إِلَّا وَجْهَهُ ۚ ﴿٨٨
28:88 – “…kullu shayin halikun illa wajha” (Surat Al-Qasas)
“…Everything (that exists) will perish except His holy Face…” (The Stories, 28:88)
From Mawlana Shaykh’s teaching for contemplating and tafakkur and to go into the reality is that everything is perishing. Don’t focus on that which perishes, but focus on that which is eternal. If you meditate and focus on a tree or focus on a tomato or focus on something from the material world, it’s perishing. So, then Divine reminding that why focus on that which perishes and is perishable? And by its nature, everything perishable is false. And that which is eternal is only to be worshipped. And that which is eternal is and should be our entire focus.
﴾وَ قُلْ جَآءَالْحَقُّ وَزَهَقَ الْبَطِلُ، إِنَّ الْبَطِلَ كَانَ زَهُوقًا ﴿٨١
17:81 – “Wa qul jaa alhaqqu wa zahaqal baatil, innal batila kana zahoqa.” (Surat Al-Isra)
“And say, Truth has come, and falsehood has perished. Indeed falsehood, [by its nature], is ever perishing/bound to perish.” (The Night Journey, 17:81)
The Face, Presence, and Divinely Essence Reflected in Three Holy Months
And Divine teaching, “Atiullaha wa atiur Rasula wa Ulil amre minkum.”
﴾ياأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَطِيعُواللَّه وَأَطِيعُوٱلرَّسُولَ وَأُوْلِي الْأَمْرِ مِنْكُمْ…﴿٥٩
4:59 – “Ya ayyu hal latheena amanoo Atiullaha wa atiur Rasula wa Ulil amre minkum…” (Surat An-Nisa)
“O You who have believed, Obey Allah, Obey the Messenger, and those in authority among you…” (The Women, 4:59)
And all of Rajab, and middle of Sha’ban, and Mawlana Shaykh teaching for us, from here is the reality of insan. That to reach to that Divinely Izzat, the Divinely Essence which is the secret of Rajab. Hidden within the presence of Sha’ban which is the reality of the prophetic reality, the prophetic reality of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ and all the prophets. And the secret of Ramadan being the face. This means that everything we’re approaching has a face. From its face, it has a presence. From its presence, within that presence, there must be a secret. Those that are clever enough to move within the ocean with that presence, they dive towards its secret.
رَجَبٌ شَهْرُ اللَّهِ ، وَشَعْبَانُ شَهْرِي ، وَرَمَضَانُ شَهْرُ أُمَّتِي
Rajabu shahr ullahi, wa Sha’banu shahryi, wa ramadanu shahru Ummati
Rajab is the month of Allah, Sha’ban is my month, and Ramadan is the month of my followers.
Holy Qur’an Has a Surat (Face), Ayat (Sign), and a Secret Within Each Sign
Another analogy would be a door. That you have to move through the door. From the door, it opens a room. And the quest is not stopping in the room, but moving towards the secret within the room. And that’s why Holy Qur’an has a surat (chapter/face), has a face. It has an ayat (verse/sign) which is the presence, a sign. Within the secret of every ayat is its reality. This means then for us, the contemplation and the ocean of contemplation, every formula that we are doing, it carries through in every act of worshipness.
- Surat = Face
- Ayat = Sign – Presence
- Secret in each Ayat = Heavenly Reality
Enter Through the Door to Have Access to Divinely Essence in the Room
It means that as soon as you tafakkur and contemplate, then the Divine says that ‘Contemplate on My Divinely Presence. My Divinely Presence is not known to you yet.’ Then keep yourself as if in the presence of the prophets (alayhi salatu salaam), that that is the room. Within the heart of the prophets is the Divinely Essence. What beats within their heart is the Divinely Presence. The ulul amre minkum are then carrying the holy face of the prophetic reality.
Ulul Amr (Awliya) Are the Face That Take Us to Prophetic Reality
So, as soon as we meditate in tariqa (spiritual path), you focus upon the face. From the face and trying to keep their face, saying that, ‘My lord, let me to be from those whom you are pleased with. Let me to focus on their association, and be with them, to be present with them.’ Their holy face merely grabs us and brings us into their presence. And their presence is the prophetic presence. This is the power of ulul amr.
﴾ياأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَطِيعُواللَّه وَأَطِيعُوٱلرَّسُولَ وَأُوْلِي الْأَمْرِ مِنْكُمْ…﴿٥٩
4:59 – “Ya ayyu hal latheena amanoo Atiullaha wa atiur Rasola wa Ulil amre minkum…” (Surat An-Nisa)
“O You who have believed, Obey Allah, Obey the Messenger, and those in authority among you…” (The Women, 4:59)
The ulul amr, why Allah (AJ) says to obey them? To follow them? Because the real ulul amr, they are from the realities of what we were talking about, Mawlana Shaykh’s teaching of insan kamil (perfected human being). Their nur (light) is shining to bring us into that secret. By focusing on their face, closing our eyes, and asking my lord, like a GPS, ‘I want to be with them. I’m trying to keep the memory of them, the image of them, their holy face.’ Everything else will perish. But the light that shines from their face is the reality of what’s within their heart. And what’s within their heart is the love of the prophetic presence, and love of the Divinely Presence. So that face draws us into the presence. Then you begin to elevate your ability to contemplate where the face brings you immediately into the presence. And in the presence, you feel the prophetic presence. And from the prophetic presence, it’s a chute into the Divinely Oceans and the Divinely Essence.
Contemplate on the Face and Keep the Holy Presence
We pray that in this holy month of Sha’ban, a tremendous reality of that reality is Lailatul Nisf Shaban (15th of 8th lunar month). That all of these holy nights, that Mawlana Shaykh is teaching for us to safeguard and to cherish is to merely be dressed by them. If we don’t feel anything, it doesn’t matter. But to sit and wait and to copy their way, to be dressed and dressed and dressed until the dress is enough upon the soul that the eye of the heart, the eye of the soul, can begin to move. It has its qudra, it has its power, it has its cleanliness, in which the eye of the heart opens and begins to witness their holy face. And from their holy face begins to witness their holy presence. And to know that we’re in that holy presence. And from there, it’s like a spark into the Divine Essence.
For those that can keep their (awliya’s) face, keep the face. To move into the presence, from the presence asking always, ‘Ya Rabbi, dress me from the essence.’ If you are not able to keep their face, then keep the face of holy Ka’bah. And see ourselves at the presence and the image of holy Ka’bah within the heart and then asking to move within the presence of the holy Ka’bah and for the light of the essence to dress us. If not that, then the presence and the holy presence of light and asking to see ourselves in that light. Then to move into the presence of that light and then to be dressed by the essence of that light, inshaAllah.
