It’s Not Always about Salah & Fasting – Lessons of Reaching High Spiritual Levels from Hz Salman ﵇

While many Muslims tend to overly focus on performing Salah (prayer) and fasting, Hz Salman al-Farsi ﵇ teaches us how one can achieve higher spiritual levels by simply being in service to others for the love of Prophet Muhammad ﵌. Originally from Persia, he embarked on a profound spiritual quest that led him through various lands and religious teachings. Born into a Zoroastrian family, then serving multiple Christian priests and rabbis across the Middle East. Each mentor, upon their death, directed Hz Salman ﵇ to another, guiding him further west towards a prophesied messenger of God.

Eventually, Hz Salman’s ﵇ journey brought him to Arabia, where he was captured as a slave. Despite his bondage, his relentless search for the prophetic figure continued until he encountered Prophet Muhammad ﵌. Upon meeting Prophet Muhammad ﵌, Hz Salman ﵇ was honored by the esteemed status of being considered part of Prophet’s Ahlul Bayt (the family of the Prophet Muhammad ﵌), despite not yet having performed traditional Islamic practices. His dedication to the pursuit of truth , and his service to the community (khitmat) earned him this rare honor, showcasing this profound pathway to spiritual faith.
