The House of God

Importance of the Lataif ul Qalb (Heart Chakra)

A’odhu billahi minash shaytaanir rajeem

We pray that the bad character goes, and the Divine to be happy. If the Divine is happy, that heart chakra begins to open. If the heart chakra opens from Divinely order, it will fix all the chakras, because it’s the seed of energy.

The Heart purifies the blood

So we said before when you breathe, your life is based on breath. So all masters came and taught that: our way is based on the breath. But if you watch the physiology of the body, that you breathe, that breath comes in and the lungs take the breath, take the energy, the nourishment of that breath and they send the blood directly into the heart. Then the heart now has to deal with the blood; the heart now has to process that breath. The heart has to then stamp that blood and send it to all the organs of the body.

Dirty Heart contaminates the whole body

So if contaminants are in here, doesn’t matter how good we breathe, how good we open up other chakras, it is still being stamped by what’s within the heart. So the seed of this power, if it’s contaminated, dirtied or corrupted, it will corrupt the entire body, and darken the whole body.

“أَلا وَإِنَّ فِى الْجَسَدِ مُضْغَةً إِذَا صَلَحَتْ صَلَحَ الْجَسَدُ كُلُّهُ، وَإِذَا فَسَدَتْ فَسَدَ الْجَسَدُ كُلُّهُ، أَلا وَهِى الْقَلْبُ “
Qala Rasulullah (saws) “Ala wa inna fil Jasadi mudghatan idha salahat salahal jasadu kulluho, wa idha fasadat fasadal jasadu kulluho, ala wa heyal Qalb.”

“There is a piece of flesh in the body, if it becomes good (reformed) the whole body becomes good but if it gets spoiled the whole body gets spoiled and that is the heart.” Prophet Muhammad (saws)

The Sufis, then they focus on the heart and that is the most difficult chakra lataif to focus on because it requires that passing security tests. That the Divine [tests], before that light and these realities open, there is so many stages of testing because what God gives, He doesn’t take away. So that every stage of what He is going to give is going to be based on the perfection of character. Again, if that opens and begins to open, then begins the blossoming and the nourishing of the entire body; the entire body will benefit from all of those realities. Every lataif, every chakra in the body will benefit from that reality.

Reality of Mirroring and Accompanying the Shaykh

In old days, the teachers would give students mantras and different things to recite and they would go and work on themselves. That time, it doesn’t exist anymore. People are too busy, too much in worldly affairs and worldly distractions. What’s important now is the reality of mirrors, mirroring.

Means by keeping the company of the shaykhs and the shaykhs that kept the company of their Shaykhs, they are opening a reality of mirrors.

المؤمن مرآة المؤمن
“al mu’min miratal mu’min.”
“The believer is the mirror of the believer.” Prophet Muhammad (saws) [Narrated by Abu Hurairah]

Means if you sit in the presence of a mirror long enough, it’s going to reflect its reality upon you. And all they ask from us is then: you do these chantings, you do these mantras to polish your mirror. So as much as you are reciting, as much as you are reciting, then you are polishing, polishing, polishing.

As we begin to polish and polish and polish, what happens is then you will begin to take on the reflection of the master, the teachers. So keeping their company, keeping our practices, keeping our chanting, keeping our way is polishing, polishing, polishing, so that they can begin to reflect that perfection onto us.

Shaykhs (Spiritual Guides) dress us from their Knowledge

Then the knowledge of these different lataifs or chakras, depending on what we are calling them, is that when we polish and polish and polish and then seek out their knowledges, they begin to dress us from that reality. So by studying one of their subjects or going into that understanding, you begin to open the soul to ask the Divine, that, ‘I heard about the lataifs of the heart, I heard about the chakras of the heart and I have from these Divinely knowledges’. The soul begins to ask the Divine Presence from those realities that, ‘Dress me from those realities’.

Everything in our lives, again according to the Sufi tradition, is based on these lataifs; that you’ll go from yellow to red; you pass the black, you go down to the white, then the green, then the whole ocean of blue that’s all encompassing.

Means that everything in our life is going to be based on the understanding of these lataifs; from the seasons to the timing of the day, to the reality of each of the prophets, to every colour, even the colour and its significance. Means that many, many oceans of reality begin to open from that understanding. Again backed with all the chanting and practices…
