I seek refuge in Allah (AJ) from the accursed Satan
In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
Alhamdulillahi Rabbil ‘aalameen, was salaatu was salaamu ‘alaa Ashrafil Mursaleen, Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammadul Mustafa ﷺ.
Always a reminder for myself, ana abdukal ‘ajeez, wa dayeef, wa miskin, wa zhalim, wa jahl, and but for the grace of Allah (AJ) that we’re still in existence.
4:59 – “…Atiullaha wa atiur Rasula wa Ulil amre minkum…” (Surat an-Nisa)
“…Obey Allah, obey the Messenger, and those in authority among you…” (The Women, 4:59)
’Arafah Reveals the Inner Truth and the Reality of Hajj
But for the grace of God’s rahmah and mercy be upon us that Allah’s (AJ) oceans of infinite rahmah that dresses the servant. Coming through the Eid ul Adha and the events of faith and days of pilgrimage and the reality of ‘Arafah and the pinnacle of hajj (pilgrimage).
That the event of sacrifice and sacrificing oneself, sacrificing property, sacrificing wealth, sacrificing time is the pinnacle of faith because they say, ‘All of hajj, one reality and all of hajj reality can be found in ‘Arafah.’
ʿAn ʿAbdir-Raḥmani ibn Yaʿmara, qala: qala Rasulullahi ﷺ: “Al-hajju ʿArafatu, fa-man adraka laylata ʿArafata qabla tuluʿil-fajri min laylati Jamʿin, faqad tamma hajjuhu.” [Sunan an-Nasāʾī 3016]
‘Abdu Rahman ibn Ya’mar reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “The Hajj is Arafat. Whoever reaches the night of Arafat before the rising of the sun at dawn the next day, he has completed his pilgrimage.” [Sunan al-Nasa’i 3016]
The events of ‘Arafah is the hajj, and the reality of the hajj, the secret of the hajj. It means that all these actions of faith and all the years we’ve described: what is the reality of the tawwaf (circumambulation), the jamarat? All these different events are the symbols of our faith and iman. The pinnacle of that iman then comes to ‘Arafah.

Allah (AJ) Continuously Tests Us, Asking Us to Sacrifice
‘Arafah is that once Sayyidina Ibrahim (as) was given the order to sacrifice Sayyidina Ismail (as). That all he had done, all his life of sacrifice and service to Allah (AJ) is a reminder that it’s never ending. That Allah (AJ), we don’t do and we achieve something and then its finished.
But Allah (AJ) is continuously testing, continuously sacrificing and asking the servant to sacrifice. That is the reality of faith. So, when they say that, ‘‘Arafah is hajj’, the awliyaullah (saints) come into our lives and begin to push into our heart its immense reality.
Shaykhs Give All Their Time and Efforts to Live a Life of Service in Allah’s (AJ) Way
That our life is about sacrifice. Our life is about sacrificing my time, sacrificing my wealth, sacrificing everything that I have of an ability, of an understanding – whatever it is – it has to be in the way of Allah (AJ) and His beloved Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. That becomes the life of the shaykh in which they sacrifice their time. They sacrifice the knowledge in which they achieved.
They didn’t achieve that easily. That they gave everything in that way. They gave all their time, all their effort. They didn’t see even their children being raised up because continuously on the road, continuously doing all the things that Allah (AJ) wanted for them. That was their life of service. That’s the reality of the pilgrimage. That this service and what we say: khidmat opens rahmah (mercy).
Give What You Love Most and Know It Was Never Yours to Keep
So, that is the khidmat. That is the service to Allah (AJ). It’s that when I have an ability and I give it in the way of Allah (AJ) because that’s what Sayyidina Ibrahim (as) was teaching – ‘I gave everything. When Allah wanted my wealth, I gave all my sheep away. When Allah wanted my time, I gave all my time away.’ All that he wanted was this child all his life, 9 years praying for that child to be born. When the child was born, after a few years Allah (AJ) say, ‘Okay, we want Sayyidina Ismail too.’
So, it never stops – the station of Islam, the station of iman (faith), Maqamul Ihsan (station of moral excellence) and the immensity of its reality. That we are a people that continuously sacrificing in the way of Allah (AJ). That people sacrifice time because they could have been doing something, working, doing something to earn a living. They stop to listen to the zikr (Divine remembrance), listen to the events, listen to the teachings. This is what brings the perfection of faith.
Give in the Way of Allah (AJ) Using Your Skills and Abilities
That’s why that when we follow the turuqs (spiritual paths), they keep teaching: khidmat, khidmat. That is the khidmat that from the time I have, I’m going to give in the way of Allah (AJ). From the skills I have, from the ability I have, from everything; to continuously train ourself, not to be proud of it.
Don’t think you did something for the center, for your faith, for anything and anyone owes you anything because that was only for you and your soul and your grave. Had you not wanted to do it, Allah (AJ) would have replaced you with 10 thousand, 10 million other people. So, don’t ever think and never let pride enter to what we do.
Don’t Be Proud of Your Service – It Was Allah’s (AJ) Mercy to You
Think you’re a shaykh, a big shaykh – 10 thousand other people coming up everyday. They want all to be shaykh. Allah (AJ) take your title away and throw the next one. Everyone in this arena is easily replaceable because Allah (AJ). So, it means that the awliya (saints) come into our life that, ‘Don’t be proud.’ Don’t be proud of your service. Don’t be proud of what you gave. Don’t be proud of the time that you commit. Don’t be proud of anything because this was Allah’s (AJ) rahmah and mercy to you.
That He chose out of these 7 billion people on this Earth, He chose you, chose me and that’s what’s astonishing. That ‘Ya Rabbi, You chose me to be of service and I pray every day that, ya Rabbi, give me a strength to be and to be worthy of that service, to have the ability to continue that service.’ Every day is difficult and everyday becomes more of a struggle. There’s so much outside pressure and oppression that it’s unimaginable to stop the service, to stop all of the ability, stop everything. Shaitan (satan) would just make everything to be easier if you would stop.
Carry the Flag of Light Through a World Filled with Darkness
Because anyone who bears a flag for realities in a filthy dunya (material world)…imagine that you think of the scariest place on Earth with the most horrific type of criminals. Say, ‘I’m going to take a flag that made out of golden diamonds and I’m going to run through this crowd and try to get to the end of it surviving.
That’s the equivalent of coming into this dunya and bearing the Muhammadun Rasulullah ﷺ flag in which to love the Prophet ﷺ more than we love ourself ﷺ; to teach about the realities, to represent the realities, to go out and give charity in the way of the realities, to be ambassadors of that reality. It’s an immense flag of light. InshaAllah.
Persevere Through Every Difficulty and Hold Firm to the Path
Nothing would make shaitan happier than to stop what we do and make everything to be difficult. Everything has to be difficult. Now only with difficulty, everything has to be built. Everyday, shaitan tries to stop it. We pray for the himmah and the zeal to complete what we need to complete and with by Allah’s (AJ) immense mercy, that He grant a victory.
So, it means that struggling in this way is never easy. That everything around pushes to stop, pushes to stop. Every type of obstacle, from every direction, it’s a push to stop what you do just to make the field better for shaitan. Even from within the family of the tariqah (spiritual path), within the family of this reality – at every inch and every corner is a difficulty. So, there is no ease in reaching our faith and completing our faith. Prophet ﷺ described in the last days that it would be like holding hot coal because that the zeal, the love is there, understanding what needs to be done is there, but there’s difficulty from every direction is continuous in life.
Qala RasulAllah (saws): “Ya ti ’alan nasi zamanul qabidu ‘ala dinihi kal qabidi ‘alal Jamr.” (Rawahu Tirmidhi)
Anas ibn Maalik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: “There will come upon the people a time when holding onto the religion will be like holding onto a burning ember (hot coal).” [Narrated by Tirmidhi]
Struggles Continue for Those Who Carry the Light of Truth
So, whoever is feeling what we are saying then knows that: that is the path. ‘The difficulty, Shaykh, will it stop?’ Never. Will everybody and their anger subside? Never. We said before that even for Imam Hussain (as), they slaughtered the family, the grandson, the immense light, these realities. Why? Because of the illumination and the light that he represented (as). Because they said, ‘As long as you’re on this Earth, they won’t take bayat (allegiance) with us and better if we kill you than to keep you.’
That is a history. Anyone who understands history understands the future. Anyone who understands history… say, ‘If you don’t know what and where you came from, you don’t know where you’re headed to.’ That’s an ignorance. So, tariqah (spiritual path) comes and awliyaullah (saints) come into our life, Ahlul Bayt (Holy family of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ) that, ‘Remember our history because history just repeats itself.’ There’s nothing new under this sun.
Shaitan Tries to Close Divinely Knowledges and Realities
Anybody whom is struggling in the way of that light and in the way of that love and to represent that reality of the respect and love of the holy family, the holy companions and to be complete in the love and respect of both, the companions and the family. Then to dispense acts of illumination with knowledges and realities and teachings and shaitan’s not happy with that.
Shaitan is fiercely trying to close that from every direction. We pray that Allah (AJ) gave a himmah and a strength in which to do what we have to do so that that tap remains open. That people can drink and to feel the reality of that tap and that reality; to quench their soul from that reality and to have a safety for themselves.
Drink From the Kawthar and Keep the Tap Flowing Open
On this dirty Earth and all its distractions, that Allah (AJ) opened a pond of Kawthar (Fountain of Abundance). That to drink from it, to be blessed from it, to be illuminated from it is an immense blessing. We don’t know the value of that blessing until it’s gone. We don’t understand what Allah (AJ) has given to us until it’s not there.
That’s why we keep praying that Allah (AJ) keep that tap open. Keep that fountain to be open. Keep His blessings and His ni’mat to be flowing. That the nazar (gaze) and the love of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ to intercede. “YansurakAllahu nasran ‘aziza”, “Inna Fatahna laka Fathan Mubeena.
48:1-3 – “Innaa fatahna laka fatham mubina. (1) liyaghfira lakaallaahu maa taqaddama min dhanbika wa maa taakhkhara wa yutimma ni’matahu ‘alayka wa yahdiyaka siraathan mustaqima.(2) Wa yansurakAllahu nasran ‘aziza. (3)” (Surat Al Fath)
“Indeed, We granted you, [O Muhammad], a manifest Victory. (1) That Allah may forgive you your faults of the past and those to follow; and fulfil His favor upon you and guide you to a straight path. (2) And [that] Allah may help you with a mighty victory (3)” (The Victory, 48:1-3)
Seek the Hidden Fountains to Survive the Darkness of Deceit
That Allah’s (AJ) mighty Support to dress us and bless us against every type of difficulty and every type of maneuvering that makes this dunya (material world) to become more and more difficult in days of darkness. That in times of difficulty, these fountains of light become more and more harder to reach. The ponds become hidden and that kawthar becomes more and more difficult to find. We’ve seen in our own life how certain taps are harder to reach, certain realities are no longer spoken about, certain haqqaiqs (realities) are no longer talked about.
That’s you see the…you can’t say that they dry up because their hearts are never dry, but Allah (AJ) begin to hide those taps, hide those fountains in which the believers no longer hear that reality anywhere. That becomes, you know, from the teachings of Prophet ﷺ that in the last days, awliyaullah (saints) would be hidden. That the time of dajjal (man of deceit), deceit would be so immense. Its darkness would be so filled that the immensity of that fitna (confusion), wherever someone is sitting, is better than even standing. Even the act of standing, he enters into a difficulty.
Qala aba Hurayra (ra), qala Rasulullahi ﷺ: “Satakonu fitanun alqa’yido fiha khairun minal qayimi, wal qayimi khirun minal mashi, wal mashi fiha khirun minas sa’yi. Man tasharrafa laha tastashrefhu. Faman wajada malja`o aw ma’azan falya’uz behi.”
Abu Hurayra (ra) said, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “There will be commotions/turmoil during which a sitting person will be better than a standing one, and the standing person will be better than a walking one, and the walking person will be better than a running one. And whoever will expose themselves to these turmoil, they will be destroyed. So whoever can find a place of protection or haven for themselves, they should take refuge in it.” [Sahih al Bukhari 7082]
Absorb What’s Accessible Before the Reality Is Veiled or Lost
We pray that Allah (AJ) grant us a means in which to be safe from the immensities of that fitna (confusion) and that difficulty that mankind bring upon themselves. That when people create a fitna…from even holy people. When they create a fitna and create a difficulty, it even within Allah’s (AJ) Will, something will then collapse and close. As a result, then that tap is no longer available and accessible to the people. We pray that Allah (AJ) grant us a strength, grant us an understanding, grant us to…from the realities that are accessible to us now to absorb them, to eat them and drink them, to bring them into our reality so that we nourish them.
It becomes a means of our survival in days of difficulty. What we are acquiring now of spiritual knowledges and spiritual teachings, these are a salvation for the soul. To presume that it’ll always be available and that, ‘I catch you on the next round’ is ignorant. In our life, we’ve seen the taps, one after another, begin to close and close. The one who comes after no longer speaks that way, no longer teaches that way. You see that the tap closed and then more and more darkness illuminates the Earth. That’s the immensity of the difficulty.
Safeguard the Entrusted Knowledge Before It Vanishes
The purpose of the books was not to glorify oneself and put images on a cover, but to know that the trust that was given and put upon the website. A day may come when that website is not available. These knowledges that were entrusted vanish. For the sake of that reality, that to put them into print so that they are safeguarded by virtue of print. That whom has them, Allah (AJ) has destined for them to have it.
That becomes the work of the shaykh, the trust of the shaykh. The Earth, in which he arrived, was in one shape and what Allah (AJ) gives of a blessing and a ni’mat and a trust, that that trust was dispensed. That when Allah (AJ) asked the servant, ‘What was given to you, did you give to the people back?’ They – ‘Qalo bala.’ They say, ‘To the best of our ability, ya Rabbi, we dispensed what needed to be dispensed.’
7:172 – “Wa idh akhadha rabbuka min banee adama min Zhuhorihim dhurriyyatahum wa ashhadahum ‘ala anfusihim alastu biRabbikum qalo bala shahidna an taqolo yawmal qiyamati inna kunna ‘an hadha ghafileen.” (Surat Al A’raf )
“And [mention] when your Lord took from the children of Adam – from their loins – their descendants and made them testify concerning themselves, [saying to them], “Am I not your Lord?” They said, “Yes, we do testify!” [This] – lest you should say on the day of Resurrection, “Indeed, we were of this unaware.” (The Heights, 7:172)
Don’t Take Divine Trust for Granted, Prepare for What’s Coming
So, our life was in that understanding. That we don’t take anything for granted. Don’t think that everything will always be there. This world is and its history is evident that everything changes; things collapse, things fall apart and things are not available. We try our best to safeguard what was put out. The knowledges that were dispensed so that the souls that needed to benefit from it, benefit. We pray that Allah (AJ) raise us with its trust and raise us with its blessings and grant to us His oceans of forgiveness and the love of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ.
That complete His favours upon ourselves, our family and our communities. Prepare us for the arrival of Sahibul Waqt (Owner of time), Sayyidina Muhammad al Mahdi (as); to be worthy of his companionship, to be worthy of being in his support, to be of support and to give from our life and from our time and from our abilities to that holy reality. That Allah (AJ) give us a life in which to see that with our physicality. If not with our physicality, definitely with our spirituality to be amongst those men of light and to accomplish what Allah (AJ) created us to accomplish.
Subhana rabbika rabbal ‘izzati ‘amma yasifoon, wa salaamun ‘alal mursaleen, walhamdulillahi rabbil ‘aalameen. Bi hurmati Muhammad al-Mustafa ﷺ wa bi siri Surat al-Fatiha.
