{5th level of the heart Huwiya}
THE LETTER HAAa (ه) [is a Muqatta’at ]
The Letter Haa (ه) is a Muqatta’at Letter. That is, it is used as a Letter in the opening verses of two Chapters of the holy Quran. These two chapters of the Quran are [chapter 19th (Maryam (Mary) & chapter 20th (Ta Ha)]:
[Surat Maryam 19:1-2]
19:1-2 – “Kaaaf-Haa-Yaa-‘Ayyn-Saad. (1) Zikru rahmati rabbika ‘abda Hu Zakariyah. (2)” (Surat Maryam)
“Kaf, Ha, Ya, ‘Ayn, Sad. (1) (This is) a recital/remembrance of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zakariya (Zachariah). (2)” (Mary, 19:1-2)
[Surat Taha 20:1-5 ]
20:1-5 – “TaaHaa. (1) Maaa anzalnaa ‘alaikal Quraana litashqaa. (2)Illaa tazkiratal limay yakhshaa. (3) Tanzeelam mimman khalaqal arda was samaawaatil ‘ulaa. (4) Ar Rahmaanu ‘alal ‘Arshis tawaa (5)” (Surat Taha)
“TaaHaa. (1) We have not sent down/revealed the Quran unto you (O Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)) to cause you distress (2) But only as a reminder for those who are conscious/fear [Allah (AJ)]- (3) A revelation from Him Who created the earth and the high heavens (4) The Most Compassionate is firmly established on the throne (of authority).(5)” (TaHa, 20:1-5)
[From Haa ه to Yaa ي]
Since the value of the Letter Haa ه is 5 and it is used 2 times as a Muqatta’at Letter we get:
5 X 2 = 10 = Ya (ي) which is knowledge.
If we look at the first usage of the Letter Haa as a Muqatta’at Letter, we find that it is followed by the Letter Ya (ي). Knowledge (ي= 10) leads the ‘0’ to ‘1’.
Knowledge comes from Allah (AJ) through Hidayat هداية Guidance. And Hidayat leads to Knowledge and Knowledge leads to Allah (AJ).
HIDAYAT هداية – GUIDANCE
Hidayat is Guidance. How do we take in Guidance?
We rely on the 5 senses given to us by Allah (AJ).
These senses are: 1. Hearing, 2. Sight, 3. Touch, 4. Smell and {5. Taste}.
Everyone of us relies on these 5 senses. [Pic 1]
The disbelievers are servants of these 5 senses. The disbelievers want a physical ‘form’ to worship. They will not believe unless they can ‘see’ or ‘touch’ or ‘hear’ physically with some of their senses.
The believers are masters of these 5 senses. The believers use their senses as servants. The believers only rely on these senses in order to gather information. They accept the existence of Allah (AJ) because they have heard the teachings of Allah (AJ) through the Messengers of Allah (AJ). After careful consideration they have accepted what the ears have told them. Muslims are a community of witnesses because they recite the Shahadat.
A Shahid is one who witnesses ‘There is no God only Allah (AJ) Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is the Messenger of Allah (AJ), with his/her intelligence based on the information gathered by the senses.
“I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.”]
Hidayat is knowing the truth from falsehood. Hidayat is controlling our 5 senses to be our servants and not our masters. What do we find in Quran?
CONTROLLING THE 5 SENSES
We find in the Quran:
(To keep the article short and simple, only one example will be shown per sense)
- What we can eat and what is forbidden – Taste
[Quran 6:118] Mention Allah’s Name over Food
6:118 – “Fakuloo mimmmaa zukirasmul laahi ‘alaihi in kuntum bi Aayaatihee mu’mineen.” (Surat Al An’am)
“So eat of that [meat] upon which the name of Allah has been mentioned, if you are believers in His verses.” (The Cattle, 6:118)
- What we can see and what is forbidden – Sight
[Surat An Nur 24:30-31 – Rules of Women’s Modesty & Hijab]
24:30-31 – “Qul lil mu’minina yaghoddu min absaarihim, wa yahfazoo furoojahum; zaalika azkaa lahum; innAllaaha khabeerum bimaa yasna’oon.(30) Wa qul lilmu’minaati yaghdudna min absaari hinna wa yahfazna furoojahunna wa laa yubdeena zeenatahunna illaa maa zahara minhaa, wal yadribanna bikhumuri hinna ‘alaa juyoobihinna wa laa yubdeena zeenatahunna illaa libu’oolatihinna, aw aabaaayi hinna aw aabaaayi bu’oolati hinna, aw abnaaayi hinnaa aw abnaayi bu’oolati hinnna, aw ikhwaanihinnna aw bani ikhwaani hinna aw bani akhawaati hinna, aw nisaaayi hinna, aw maa malakat aimaanu hunna awit taabiyina ghairi ulil irbati minar rijaali awit tifllilazeena lam yazharoo ‘alaa ‘awraatin nisaaayi, wa la yadribnna bi arjulihinna liyu’lama maa yukhfina min zeenatihinn; wa tubu ilallaahi jammee’an ayyuhal mu’minoona la’allakum tuflihoon. (31)” (Surat an Nur)
“Say to the believers/believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty/private parts: that is purer for them. Verily, Allah is Aware of what they do. (30) And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden) and guard their private parts, and not expose their beauty and adornment except that which is apparent, and to wrap [a portion of] their veil/headcovers over their chests, and not expose/reveal their beauty/adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands’ fathers, their sons, their husbands’ sons, their brothers, their brothers’ sons, their sisters’ sons, their women, or those (servants) which their right hands possess, or those (old) male servants/attendants having no physical desire, or children who are not yet aware of the private aspects of women. And let them not stamp their feet to draw attention to their hidden adornment. And turn to Allah in repentance, all together, O believers, that you might succeed. (The Light, 24:30-31)
- What we can touch and what is forbidden – Touch
[Surat Al Mumtahanah 60:12 – Women Can Take Bay’ah (Allegiance)]
60:12 – “Yaaa ayyuhan nabbiyyu izaa jaaa’akal mu’minaatu yubaayigh’naka ‘alaaa allaa yushrikna billaahi shai ‘anw wa laa yasriqna wa laa yazneena wa laa yaqtulna awlaadahunna wa laa ya’teena bibuhtaaniny yaftaree nahoo baina aydeehinna wa arjulihinna wa laa ya’seenaka fee ma’roofin fa baayigh’ hunna wastaghfir lahunnalla hunn allaah; innallaaha ghafoorur Raheem.” ( Surat Al Mumtahanah)
“O Prophet (Muhammad (pbuh), when the believing women come to you to give Bay’ah (pledging to you) that they will not associate in worship anything with Allah, nor will they that they will not steal, that they will not commit adultery, that they will not kill their children, that they will not utter/produce slander, intentionally forging falsehood, that they have invented between their arms and legs, that they will not disobey you in what is right – then accept their bay’ah (pledge) and ask forgiveness for them from Allah. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.” (She that is to be examined, 60:12)
- What we can hear and what is forbidden – Hearing
[Surat Fussilat 41:3-4 – Arabic Quran sent as Giver of Good Tidings and a Warner]
41:3-4 – “Kitaabun fussilat Aayaatuhoo Qur-aanan ‘Arabiyyal liqawminy ya’lamoon. (3) Basheeranw wa nazeeran fa-a’rada aksaruhum fahum laa yasma’oon. (4)” (Surat Fussilat)
“ A Book whose verses have been explained in detail, an Arabic Qur’an for people who understand, (3) As a giver of good tidings and a warner; but most of them turn away, so they do not hear. .” (Explained in Detail, 41:9-10)
- What we can sense with our nose – Smell
[Surat Yusuf – Yaqub (as) smelled the scent of Yusuf (as)]
12:94 – “Wa lamma fasalati al’eeru qala abohum innee laajidu reeha yosufa, lawla an tufannidon.” (Surat Yusuf)
“When the caravan left (Egypt), their father said: “I do indeed scent the presence of Joseph: if you did not think me weakened in mind.” (Joseph, 12:94)
An important point to note is that 4 of the 5 senses are localised to the organs, namely smell, sight, taste and hearing. But the sense of touch is spread all over the body.
Why Do We Need to Control the 5 Senses?
Because the punishment or reward is based on these 5 senses.
[Surat Fussilat/Ha Meem 41:20-21 – Our Hearing, Sight and Skin will Testify]
(21) (Surat Fussilat)
“Until, when they reach it, their hearing and their eyesight and their skins will testify against them, as to all their deeds.(20) And they will say to their skins, “Why have you testified against us?” They (their skin) will say, “We were made to speak by Allah, who has made everything speak; and He created you the first time, and to him you shall return .” (Explained in Detail, 41:20-21)
Since the sense of touch is spread all over the body, the punishment of burning in the fire is the most difficult to bear. May Allah (AJ) have Mercy on everyone of us. [moved up]
How Do We Control the 5 Senses?
By taking 5 steps and then again, another 5 steps.
5 + 5 = 10 = Ya, Knowledge.
The first 5 steps are Wudu (ablution)
WUDU – ABLUTION [5 Steps of Wudu]
Step 1 is a body free of impurities.
Step 2 is clothes free of impurities.
Step 3 is saying Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem at the start of Wudu.
Step 4 is performing the Wudu.
Wudu is essentially washing or cleaning the 5 senses.
- We need to wash the hands (touch),
- The mouth (taste – 3 times),
- The nose (smell – 3 times),
- The face (eyes are included in this – touch and sight – 3 times),
- The arms (touch – 3 times, starting with the right arm and then repeating with the left arm).
- Run moistened hands from forehead, over the head to the back of the neck and back to the forehead (touch).
- Then we wipe the ears with moistened fingers (hearing), and
- Finish of with washing the feet (touch – washing the right foot first and then the left foot).
To conclude the Wudu, we take the fifth step.
Step 5 is the recitation of Kalima Shahadat:
“I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.”]
Notice that we have to clean the sense of touch in the Wudu in 5 stages.
The other 5 steps are the 5 Daily prayers.
THE FIVE DAILY PRAYERS – [ Salah ]
There are 5 prayers (Salah) per day. (redundant)
- There are Fajr [dawn praye], Zhur [noon prayer), ‘Asr [afternoon prayer], Maghrib [sunset prayer], and ‘Isha [nighttime prayer].
- The purpose of the prayers is to communicate with Allah (AJ). The purpose of the prayers is to keep remembering Allah (AJ) throughout the day and the night. The purpose of the prayer is keep ourselves pure physically and spiritually. The purpose of the prayer is to attain ‘nearness’ to Allah (AJ).
If we look at the numerical values of the names of the prayers: [tbl 1]
- Fajr فجر= 283 = 200 (ر) + 3 (ج) + 80 (ف) = {13 is the value of Nur}
- Zuhr ظهر= 1105 = 200 (ر) + 5 (ه) + 900 (ظ)= {7 power of the King}
- Asr عصر= 360 = 200 (ر) + 90 (ص) + 70 (ع) = {360 the Circle completion, day ends}
- Maghrib مغرب= 1242 = 2 (ب) + 200 (ر) + 1000 (غ) + 40 (م)= { 9}
- Ishaa عشاء= 372 = 1 (ء) + 1 (ا) + 300 (ش) + 70 (ع) = {12}
If we add all of the above totals, we get :
283 + 1105 + 360 + 1242 + 372 = 3362
If we reduce the overall total to a single digit we get :
3 + 3 + 6 + 2 = 14 {is Noon, its value is 50}
1 + 4 = 5 = ه
The 5 prayers are named in such a way that the overall total numerical values of all their names can be reduced to the number 5 which is the numerical value of the Letter Haa (ه).
That Letter Haa (ه) is connected to Hidayat هداية – Guidance.
The Hidayat came from Hu هو to His Messengers (as) and they in turn taught it to their communities.
FROM HU THROUGH HADEE [The Guide]
Hidayat هداية comes from Allah (AJ). And Allah (AJ) is Hu هو.
Hu هو sent the Hidayat هداية Guidance to a Hadee هادي Guide chosen by Him.
That Hadee هادي Guide is Muhammad ﷺ. That Hidayat هداية is recorded for us in the Quran.
[Surat Ash Shura 42:51-52 – Prophet (s) Guides to Straight Path ]
42:51-52 = “ Wa maa kaana li basharin any yukallimahul laahu illaa wahyan aw minw waraaa’yi hijaabin aw yursila Rasoolan fa yoohiya bi iznihi maa yashaaa’; inna Hu ‘Aliyyun Hakim. (51) Wa kazaalika awhainaa ilayka roohan min amrinaa; maa kunta tadree mal Kitaabu wa lal imaanu wa laakin ja’alnaahu nooran nahdee bihee man nashaaa’o min ‘ibaadinaa; wa innaka latahdeee ilaaa Siraatim Mustaqeem. (52) (Surat Ash Shura)
“And it is not fitting for any human being that Allah should speak to him except by revelation or from behind a veil, or that He sends a messenger to reveal, by His permission, what He wills. Indeed, He is Most High and Most Wise. (51) And thus We have revealed to you [Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)] a Spirit of Our command. You did not know (before) what the Book (Quran) was or [what was] faith, but We have made it a light by which We guide whom We will of Our servants. And indeed, [O’ Muhammad (pbuh)], you guide to a straight path – (52) ” (The Consultation, 42:51-52)
May Allah (AJ) and His Rasool ﷺ Guide us and keep us on True Guidance. Ameen.
Only Allah (AJ) Knows Best.
Al Hamdu Lillah Rabbil Alameen. All praise is for Allah (AJ), the Rabb of the worlds. Blessings on Muhammad ﷺ, his family, and his companions. Allah (AJ) in His infinite Generosity has permitted me to write a little about each of the Letters in His Name.
