We See the World Through Our Own Coloured Eyes – Look to the Beauty of the Souls

4:59 – “…Atiullaha wa atiur Rasula wa Ulil amre minkum…” (Surat An-Nisa)
“… Obey Allah, Obey the Messenger, and those in authority among you…” (The Women, 4:59)
And always a reminder for myself, ana abdukal ‘ajeez, wa dayeef, wa miskin, wa zhalim, wa jahl. And by the grace of Allah (AJ), I’m still in existence. It means we took a path in which to claim that we’re nothing, I’m ignorant and poor and I’m nothing. And but by the grace of God and Allah’s (AJ) Might and Majesty that He forgives and that He raises his servant into his divinely presence. InshaAllah, Allah (AJ) bless us and dress us.
What We See Through Our Eyes is But an Illusion
These nights of Ashura, these nights of Karbala, is a reminder for ourself that you see, I see the world through my eyes. And what you see may not be correct. And a reminder, that to understand, they always teach by example. They say, Shaykh what do you mean by that? I said that if you had a pair of glasses that were blue, a very strong blue and you put that on, you see this whole world blue. And every interpretation you have will be through how you see the world. It means that you see it through your eyes and your eyes are not true.
It means the eye of a truthful servant, they see through their heart. They know that this physical eye is but an illusion. What does this eye see? The eye doesn’t even see anything. Do you see anything from the atomic reality, do you see anything from any reality? How come electron microscope can show you this water is filled with creatures. You see it as nothing, and say no, no shaykh it’s a clean, clear glass of water. Say no, no you’re wrong, in here are billions of creatures, very scary looking creatures. And upon each of those creatures there are more creatures, as much as they turn their microscope. You can google electron microscope images of creatures in water. You can’t drink water again, that’s why you have to make du’a (supplication). Ya Rabbi, I don’t know what creatures are in there, don’t let them to attack me. [Shaykh laughs]
We Need to Admit That We are an Oppressor to Our Self
So, ana abdukal ‘ajeez, wa dayeef, wa miskin, wa zhalim, wa jahl (I am your servant who is helpless, weak, oppressor, and ignorant), this is the way of our life. “La ilaha illa anta Subhanaka, innee kuntu minazh zhalimeen”. Ya Rabbi, verily I’m an oppressor to myself.
21:87 – “… la ilaha illa anta Subhanaka, innee kuntu minazh zhalimeen.” (Surat Al-Anbiya)
“…“There is no god/diety except You; Glory to you: Indeed I have been of the wrongdoers/Oppressor to Myself!” (The Prophets, 21:87)
Ya Rabbi, verily I’m an oppressor to myself. Then they begin to teach that you’re going to be oppressed by your faculties. That if you don’t admit to yourself that you have an insufficiency, that you have a sickness. I’m talking to myself, not to anyone. That if I don’t admit to myself, I have a deficiency. I’m seeing the world through my eyes and those are not correct eyes.[P]
Take a Path of Tazkiyah (Purification)
Unless they took a way of tazkiyah, that you train to close your eyes and keep making your zikr (Divine remembrance). Close your eyes and every night for hour, two hours, you meditate and contemplate, like you’re dead in the grave. Close your eyes, say I don’t trust my eyes my Lord. I don’t want anything from these eyes. Open my heart and breathe and meditate. It means you have to at least have the ability to begin to open the firasah (spiritual vision), open the heart. Because awliyaullah (saints) come into our lives and they teach, these eyes are going to play an illusion upon you.
Don’t Trust What You Hear, Always Verify It
That these ears that you think you hear with are all illusion. Everything is by mischief and backbiting and bad sounds and bad information. You make all your choices based on bad information, whether it’s the TV, whether it’s the news, whether it’s a friend who calls you. And how much they created mischief for Prophet ﷺ? Just say one thing and not verify. Allah (AJ) say whatever you hear, verify.
49:6 – “Yaaa ayyuhal lazeena aamanoo in jaa ‘akum faasequm benaba in fatabaiyanoo an tuseeboo qawmam bijahalatin fatusbihoo ‘alaa maa fa’altum naadimeen” (Surat al Hujurat)
“O you who believe! If a wicked person comes to you with any news, investigate the truth, for you may harm people out of ignorance, and afterwards become remorseful for what you have done.” (The Rooms, 49:6)
That ayatul Qur’an which means verify, even Ahlul Basirah (the people whose hearts are opened) have to verify through their heart. Even they heard it and they think it’s an information from a trustworthy servant, they still need to contemplate into their heart to get confirmation from their sources that not true, it’s not correct. It means so many different levels of purification that Allah (AJ) teaching don’t even trust what you hear.
Negative Energy Has Strong Control Over Our Senses
Don’t trust what you see, don’t trust what you’re speaking. It means that your senses are going to deceive you at the phases at the beginning of our life and our way. The shaitan has strong control over the senses of insan (human being). He controls what they hear by all their gossiping. They’re supposed to be “samina wa atana.”
(Surat Al-Baqarah)
“…We hear, and we obey: (We seek) Thy forgiveness, our Lord, and to Thee is the end of all journeys.” (The Cow, 2:285)
We heard the message and the request from Allah (AJ) and we obeyed. How many people doing that? They can’t pray on time. What is this “samina wa atana”? It means this is what Allah (AJ) wants from us. That you want the taslim and submission, these ears have to be in complete submission. So we took a path in which to know what my ears are hearing are lies and deceits. These sounds and music that are pumping into them are bringing my energy to be down.
Zikrullah Lifts Our Spiritual Status
When I should be listening to salawat (praises upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ), I should be listening to Holy Qur’an, I should be listening to salawat un Nabi ﷺ, I should be listening to something good to bring my energy up. As long as the energy is going down, shaitan is taking control of what I’m hearing and control of my energy. And as I begin to move to a lower energy, every negativity becomes my way. But we’re trying to elevate, Allah (AJ) zikrullah e Akbar, Allah (AJ) says the best of ‘amal (good deed) is to remember and to mention Allah (AJ), Why? Because it’s going to lift your status from the status of being with demons and shayateen (devils) to the status of being with the angels in the heavens.
How Could They Not See the Brightest Light of Imam Hussain (as)?
So it means, what happened to Imam Hussain (as)? And what happens in our life at every moment. It means why, when a huge Ahlul Bayt (Holy Family of Prophet ﷺ), a huge grandchild of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ, immense light, immense fragrance of paradise. How did they not see that? How did they look and they didn’t see his light (as)? Why? Because they looked through the world, through their own dirtiness. And most of us, that’s why they’re teaching, that we look through the world through our dirtiness. We look, we size people up, we begin to judge. Means who is he? I see him as nothing. Maybe because you’re looking through dirty eyes. I hear him as nothing, maybe because you hear through dirty ears. And because of that judgement, they killed the grandson of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ, destroyed and slaughtered. Why didn’t they see his light?
Because this is the tafakkur (contemplation), they’re coming, they said how they did that? This all around this Earth because people are giving their senses to shaitan. If they give their eye to shaitan, they constantly look at someone and say this person is nothing. And they want to criticize that person and everything about them, and shaitan will begin to whisper and find fault in that one. So that you don’t think that they’re good or pious or anything to be near. And that’s the danger.
The Holy Faces of Ahlul Bayt are Present, But Can We Identify Them?
How did that happen to Imam Hussain (as)? How would that light, that connection with all the proofs that they had. How did he step into their presence and they didn’t see it? Because they had eyes that don’t see, they had ears that don’t hear. Everybody has an eyeball but Allah (AJ) says, ‘They have eyes but they don’t see and they have ears and they don’t hear.’
7:179 – “Wa laqad zara’naa li jahannama kaseeram minal jinni wal insi lahum quloobul laa yafqahoona bihaa wa lahum a’yunul laa yubisiroona bihaa wa lahum aazaanul laa yasma’oona bihaa; ulaaa’ika kal an’aami bal hum adall; ulaaa’ika humul ghaafiloon” (Surat Al-Ar’af)
“Many are the Jinn’s and men we have made for Hell: They have hearts wherewith they understand not, eyes wherewith they see not, and ears wherewith they hear not. They are like cattle,- nay more misguided: for they are heedless (of warning).” (The Heights, 7:179)
And how that happens in this dunya (material world)? How many people promise to support Milad un Nabi ﷺ (celebration of the birthday of Prophet ﷺ) and when Milad comes, they don’t support? How many people in their dreams and in their prayers, Ya Rabbi, send us a light, send us a guidance, send us awliyaullah (saints). People are praying send us awliyaullah. What would a wali (saint) look like to you if he was there tomorrow? What does Imam Hussain (as) look like? If you were to see him, would you identify and know him? His face must be on this Earth at all times. The face of Sayyidatina Zainab (as) must be on this Earth at all times. The face of Prophet ﷺ must be on this Earth at all times. These faces that Allah (AJ) loves and honored them, they’re always amongst this dunya. How would you know if you see with bad eyes? Can you imagine coming across the face of one of these holy souls with bad eyes? That you judged them and you are no different than a yazid. How they judged him and slaughtered him.
Behave Around Awliya, Their Senses are Dressed by Divine Power
And that’s why the tazkiyah and the schools of tazkiyah, who really submit and actually really want to come to learn how to be clean. Ya Rabbi, I don’t trust my eyes. Because once you begin to clean these eyes, many awliyaullah may appear. They only appear by good manners and through good manners, your heart will tell you that’s a wali. Be careful how you deal with him. That through his eyes is the light of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ, through his hearing is Allah (AJ), and through his hands are the power of Allah (AJ) moving through their hands. Don’t judge them. Be careful how you deal with them.
“…, wa la yazaalu ‘Abdi yataqarrabu ilayya bin nawafile hatta ahebahu, fa idha ahbabtuhu kunta Sam’ahul ladhi yasma’u behi, wa Basarahul ladhi yubsiru behi, wa Yadahul lati yabTeshu beha, wa Rejlahul lati yamshi beha, wa la in sa alani la a’Teyannahu, …”
“…My servant continues to draw near to Me with voluntary acts of worship so that I shall love him. When I love him, I am his hearing with which he hears, his seeing with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes and his foot with which he walks. Were he to ask [something] of Me, I would surely give it to him…” Hadith Qudsi (Sahih al-Bukhari, 81:38:2)
Only Bad People Judge People
It means that they teach you and train you how to open your faculties. That shaitan playing with your eyes, shaitan is playing with your ears. If you don’t take a way of tazkiyah and how to purify your eyes, how to cleanse your eyes, how to cleanse your hearing, how to cleanse the heart, so that I can identify these faces, Ya Rabbi. When you’re the people of tazkiyah, and constant cleaning, constant cleaning, constant cleaning. They begin to teach you, only bad people judge people. Right? They size everybody up. They go to an event, they look, says this guy was an idiot, this guy was a moron, this guy was a crook, this one was a thief, this one was that. They make a mention of everything.
Awliya Look to Our Soul That Has an Honour From Allah (AJ)
And what are awliyaullah? Because look at the jama’ (group) of awliyaullah are not the clean people. The association of awliyaullah are people who are coming to be washed. And how are they sitting in their association and they haven’t been thrown out yet? Because they (awliyaullah) don’t see any dirtiness in them (jama’) and they don’t look to the dirty laundry. When you go someone’s house, you don’t look in their dirty basket of laundry and say, ‘Oh my God what a filthy basket of dirty laundry is this.’ That the awliyaullah are teaching, their shaykhs taught them, that with your firasah and with your heart and with your soul, look to their soul. Their soul has an honour from Allah (AJ). Put into that soul, means use your light and your zikr and everything they have given. They put that zikr upon their soul for the love of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ and they begin to see the lights and the colours of the souls changing. Their soul is already beautified from paradise.
Ahlul Tafakkur See the Beautiful Lights of the Souls That Praise
That soul when it begins to come and begin to praise upon Prophet ﷺ, this light it manifests from an energy. It’s the physics, the physics has to match, if they’re correct. That soul is a light, that light is an energy, that energy must be from a hamd (praise). Must be from a praise, where Allah (AJ) says, ‘Everything is praising me, You haven’t the ability to understand except ahlul tafakkur.’ Tafakkur, they open their hearing, they open their spiritual seeing, that the light of that soul is a colour, is a beatific colour from paradise.
17:44 – “Tusabbihu lahus samawatus sab’u wal ardu wa man fee hinna wa in min shayin illa yusabbihu bihamdihi wa lakin la tafqahoona tasbeehahum innahu kana haleeman ghafoora.” (Surat Al-Isra)
“The seven heavens and the earth and whatever is in them exalt [praises] Him. And there is not a thing except that it exalts [Allah] by His praise, but you do not understand their [way of] exalting. Indeed, He is ever Forbearing and Forgiving.” (The Night Journey 17:44)
The Dirtiness We Put on Our Self Carries That Energy Everywhere
They don’t look to the garbage of it’s clothes. It means the body with all it’s filthiness, it’s like the example of going and trying to help somebody on the East Hastings (Vancouver), or the skid row (Los Angeles). Go to the worst place, find the person in the worst condition. The smelliest condition, where the smell make you to vomit and try to hold that smell when it doesn’t bother you. What do you think the smell of people are in the association of awliya (saints)? Worse than the toilet, worse than you can imagine is a fragrance being emitted from people. They have not yet reached a level in which their heart palpitates with a pure fragrance. So what they ask you, hide your fragrance with bakhoor (incense) and ‘attar (perfume) because the smell is too heavy for them to take. It’s not that it’s clean, it’s worse than a bathroom, it’s worse than a garbage.[p]
If they give you the ability just to taste that sense. We have somebody, he went somewhere and he says I could smell alcohol and cigarettes. He went somewhere and said I can smell alcohol and cigarettes. He asked the people of the house, ‘What’s going on, why do I have such a profound smell of alcohol and cigarettes?’ And then they said I don’t know, we got these photos from a long time ago, look at these. Even the photo of people, because of their character and what they were doing, they carry that energy with them everywhere. It’s in the photo. The energy is in the photo, because when you look at a photo not a drawing, drawing you did with your hands. Photography is from Allah’s (AJ) creation; you are taking a picture and an image of Allah’s (AJ) creation. With that image, comes an energy, comes a soul, especially if they passed away. As soon as you look at them, they’re present with all their drinking and all their smoking. Everything they dressed upon themselves, they made their soul like a trash can and wherever it goes, it has that fragrance.
When Souls of Awliya are Passing, We Smell the Good Fragrance
But awliyaullah, where Allah (AJ) says that, “Ala bi dhikrillahi tatma’innul Qulob,” they fragranced and perfumed themselves.
13:28 – “Alladheena amano wa tatma’innu Qulobu hum bidhikrillahi, ala bi dhikrillahi tatma’innul Qulob.” (Surat Ar-Ra’d)
“Those who believe, and whose hearts find satisfaction in the remembrance of Allah. For without doubt in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find satisfaction.” (The Thunder, 13:28)
Wherever you were in your room and making salah and meditating and you smell roses and amber and sandalwood, these are awliya passing. Because their soul can be everywhere and anywhere Allah (AJ) want them. They’re not limited to one place. It doesn’t take anything from Allah (AJ). We said before, I have a laser at home that shoots like 500 directions. One laser beam, it goes whoop and there’s 500 lights on the wall. Laser. So that light can be everywhere, not something difficult.
Look at the Beauty and Light of the Souls of People
So they come and teach us, that purify your light, prefect your light, perfect your character. They deal in that stench all the time. It means they want to teach, the fact that you can say that you can hear and see a problem, is because something wrong with how you are moving in this world. That don’t face this world through those eyes, don’t face this world through these ears. It’s all an illusion and they train face this world as they face it, and look to the soul of insan and it’s beauty and it’s glorification of what Allah (AJ) has put upon it. They come into the lives of people so they begin to praise upon Prophet ﷺ. As soon as they praise upon Prophet ﷺ, they see the lights of that soul beginning to change. And beatific lights beginning to emit from the soul. And that’s what they’re asking. If the people of basirah, their character is not known, people don’t understand their character. Is they see the beauty within everything and that’s why their associations have many diverse backgrounds. People just walking in, not people who have been purifying themselves all their life. Because they don’t look to any of the dirtiness of the form, they only look to the goodness.
Our Inner Yazid Blind Us From Seeing the Pious People
And what they want for us to understand is look for the goodness. Look at the ‘amal and the action before you make a comment. Look at the actions of those people, they must be related to Prophet ﷺ. They propagate the love of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ worldwide. They propagate through books, through internet, through whatever Allah (AJ) gave them as a means, they propagate that worldwide. Imagine the proximity of that soul to Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ.
But if you look with bad eyes and think with bad ears and make with bad comments, your yazid has overtaken you and you don’t see anything. And what was the difference of how they slaughtered our beloved Imam Hussain (as)? They didn’t see the light? They didn’t see that this is a grandchild who was climbing on Prophet ﷺ, Prophet ﷺ kissing and hugging him? No, because the bad character says no, no, I’m finding a fault, I don’t care who he’s related to, I don’t care what he’s done. I find a fault because shaitan is strong on that person. And as a result of that fault, they begin to attack.
Don’t Trust Physical Eyes, Try to See With Your Heart
But what they want from these schools is use your heart. Don’t trust your eyes, don’t trust your ears, use your heart. And with your heart, ask Allah (AJ), who are they? And if you show me who they are, I give my life to them. “Qul inna salati wa nusuki wa mahyaya wa mamati lillahi Rabbil ‘Aalamin.“
Say, “Indeed, my prayer, my services of sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the worlds. No partner has He; and this I have been commanded, and I am the first of those who submit.” (The Cattle, 6:162-163)
Make you contract and your covenant with Allah (AJ) for your loyalty and your purpose. And you make your whole life to be in that way. And don’t trust and your whole life is never to trust. What you’re hearing of gossip, we never trust it, because our connection with our heart. What you think from your eyes and what you’ve seen, you never trust. It’s from your heart and through your heart, you build the connection with them. Clearer than this room because you’re with them in the world of lights.
Tremendous Forgiveness on Ashura
We pray that Allah (AJ) open from these realities. This is Ashura, when Allah (AJ) going to grant a great maghfirah from tonight to tomorrow night nations have been saved. The nation of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ, the most saved nation, most beloved nation of Allah (AJ), tremendous lights, tremendous maghfirah and forgiveness. We pray that Allah (AJ) count us among that. Take difficulties from us because of those lights.
Subhana rabbika rabbal ‘izzati ‘amma yasifoon, wa salaamun ‘alal mursaleen, walhamdulillahi rabbil ‘aalameen. Bi hurmati Muhammad al-Mustafa wa bi siri Surat al-Fatiha.
