Madad Ya Sayiddi Ya Sultanul Awliya Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim Al Haqqani Madad Ya Sayiddi Ya Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani…
Spiritual Realities Open with Good Manners
InshaAllah, always a reminder for myself, and from Mawlana Shaykh’s teachings to the classes of purification and tazkiya, that alhamdulilah, from the oceans of marifah (gnosticism) and realities, these are the schools of purification, and the schools of the manners and adab. It’s a reminder for ourselves that without the manners, without the etiquette, nothing opens within the heart. And if nothing opens within the heart, then that becomes a very dangerous reality. That the form can be an imitated form, and within it be something empty. And anything empty can be easily occupied by Shaytan (satan) and bad character, bad desires. This means everything of the turooq and the tariqa (spiritual path) is to reach towards the realities. But these realities can’t be achieved without first taking a path of silence.
First Lesson of Sayyidina Khidr (as) to Nabi Musa (as)
It means as soon as we come through the door, the first understanding and first reality through that door, is that for me to reach anything. Because this was the dialogue between Nabi Musa (as) and Sayyidina Khidr (as). That I want to learn from a higher reality of what you have been taught. And the first thing that Sayyidina Khidr (as) gave as a… can’t say guidance, he is a prophet of Allah (AJ). But as a, as an understanding, that you won’t have patience. You won’t have patience with something that you have not a complete knowledge or little knowledge about, that you are going to be impatient. Your impatience going to make you to question. Your questioning making you to block your path. [Pic]
18:67-68 – “Qala innaka lan tastatee’a ma’iya sabra. Wa kayfa tasbiru ‘ala ma lam tuhit bihi khubra.” (Surat Al-Kahf)
“(The Other) said, Verily you will not be able to have patience with me! And how can you have patience for what you do not encompass in knowledge?” (The Cave, 18:67-68)
and
18:70 – “Qala fa ini ittaba’tanee fala tasalnee ‘an shay-in hatta ohditha laka minhu dhikra.” (Surat Al-Kahf)
“[Khidr] He said, Then if you follow me, do not ask me questions about anything until I myself speak to you concerning it.” (The Cave, 18:70)
The whole story is in holy Qur’an and the dialogue between the two. And everything that occurred was a result of talking. And not being able to control the tongue, which is a dangerous condition because if the tongue can’t be controlled, then far greater danger is within the heart.
The More You Keep Silent, the More You Can Absorb
The tongue is only the tip of the volcano. What lies beneath the volcano is a molten lava that will explode and burn and destroy everything. It means Allah (AJ) was describing to Prophet ﷺ from what they say in their mouth, what within their heart, far greater damage. Far worse characteristics. It means then the turooqs (spiritual paths) and the way of reality that come to teach us, that if we want to reach to these realities, then take a path of silence. Because every test and every trick will immediately come, and then it’s too late at that time to avoid that type of difficulty.
Then Naqshbandiyatil ‘Aliyya inheriting from the secrets of Sayyidina Abu Bakr as Siddiq (as), keep path of silence. As much as you can keep silent, as much as you’re able to absorb. As much as you begin to talk, as much as you’re reflecting out the bad characteristics, the doubts, and the opinions. And the opinions are not necessary in their schools of reality. That we’re not coming here to learn anything from people who walk through the door, but Allah (AJ) sending them to learn something. That they’re coming through the door to reach towards realities, towards their ahd and their covenant with Allah (AJ). But if we come with an understanding that, ‘No, I’m going to teach them something. I’m going to tell them what to do’. Already that path has been defeated. The reality cannot be achieved.
Everything is a Façade on the Outside, but Inside is Empty
This means that the first rule of these understandings, but for tonight what we wanted to mention is how the inside can destroy the outside. The people who don’t understand, and they think that this is maybe a small portion of their Islam. That, ‘Oh Shaykh, you know maybe I can’t make it for zikr (circle of remembrance) or I can’t do the durood sharif. I can’t do all of these practices. Maybe it’s something small.’ And we talked the other night that a beloved guest’s house, and it’s something that’s important as a reminder for ourselves. And many ahadith that we’ve posted on that, and the point seems to be lost. We live in a Hollywood time. A Hollywood time is that everything is a façade. Have you ever taken the tour from Universal Studios? Everything is a nice façade on the outside, but behind is empty. They make entire cities with this façade, and behind it is absolutely nothing. Our lives have become like that. And Prophet ﷺ gave a great warning, for that time that comes where everything becomes a façade and something empty.[Hds]
The Inner Dimension Must Be Perfected for the Outer Deed to Be Accepted
1. Wudu (Ablution)
They (guides) teach us that the communities, mashAllah, have all taught people how to make wudu (ablution). And there are so many YouTube channels on how to wash, and how to do the different usool. And people think that by understanding how to wash, that they have achieved something in their salat (prayer). This is an example for us, and from every point of usool, there must be an inner dimension. And that inner dimension must be perfected so that the outer exercises will be accepted by Allah (AJ) because Allah (AJ) says, ‘We come to their actions, and we throw it’.
25:23 – “Wa qadimnaaa ilaa maa ‘amiloo min ‘amalin faja’alnaahu habaaa’am mansooraa” (Surat Al-Furqan)
“And We shall turn to whatever deeds they did (in this life), and We shall make such deeds as floating dust scattered about.” (The Criterian, 25:23)
Then they explain, well, how Allah (AJ) going to come to my actions and throw it? This means the community that focus so much on external washing. They wash, they wash, they wash. They taught everybody how to wash the body, and then they begin their namaz (prayer).
2. Salah (Prayer) – Can you Pray without Wudu (Ablution)?
That without the washing, without the cleansing, the namaz and prayer is not valid. So, this is the basic understanding: that I have to wash my body, clean my physicality, so that I can go to pray. All but the people of Basirah (spiritual vision), and the people of inner realities, and the hearts that are open, when they come into an association and they see, mashAllah, all these people praying. And all these people taught how to wash. But if with just a moment of reflection within their heart, they realize their (peoples’) hearts are very dirty. And a heart and an inner being that never made wudu (ablution), how is it coming to its namaz (prayer)?
It’s same understanding. As if somebody tells you that, ‘Shaykh, I don’t have to ever wash, and I make all my five prayers.’ Say mashAllah, that’s a interesting accomplishment. That how you never wash and you make all your namaz (prayers)? That has to be to be something to be seen.
We Wash the Outside, But Shaytan Flows Within
But the people of inner realities, they come to the same association. And they see that all these people are praying. But within them is a heart filled with filthiness, with dirtiness, with bad characteristics, bad gossips, bad energies. And already shaytan within them. Your outer washing is for what then? So, Shaykh, I’m washing away all the shayateen, and all the bad characteristics, it’s very nice. But Islam, Iman wal Ihsan (submission, faith, and moral excellence) was a complete package. If you only wash the outer devils, and the outer character, well Shaytan (satan) already lying dormant within that believer. Because he is in the heart of the believer. And Prophet ﷺ describe that he’s [satan] flowing through the blood.
Qala Rasulullahi (saws): “Innash shaitana yajri min ibni Adama (as) majra addami.”
The prophet of Allah (pbuh) said: ” Satan moves/flows in sons of Adam (pbuh) through the blood”. [Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim & agreed upon by all Imams]
So, means that shayateen (demons) inside is the one that we’re supposed to be attacking also. And the only way to attack that shaytan that is moving inside, and the bad characteristics, and bad inspirations, and bad desires, that it is whispering to the reality and to the nafs (ego), that do like this, do like that, agitate, aggravate, bother. All of those characteristics is from the shaytan within the body. Then, the outer form is to what benefit? And the prayers of the outer form are to what benefit?
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ Warned Us of People with Impressive Deed that Lack Faith
Then we posted a very beautiful hadith in which the sahabi were telling Prophet ﷺ that there is a youth. And importance of each word of what Prophet ﷺ was giving for us as a warning for today. There is a youth very impressive in his amal (deeds). They asked him, ‘Ya Sayiddi, Ya RasulAllah ﷺ, they described that he prays his perfect prayers, perfect qira’at and recitation. Do you know him?’ And Prophet ﷺ answer is, ‘I don’t know him.’
It means first you stop and for the one who went for Isra wal Miraj (Night of Ascension) alaihas salatu salam, he has ‘uloom ul awwaleen wa akhireen’ (knowledges of the first and last), and knows everything in creation. Most definitely knows his nation. His first warning to sahabi (companions), that he is amongst us, but he is not from us. Because Prophet ﷺ said, ‘I don’t know him.’ Not somebody makes a tafsir and says, ‘Oh, Prophet didn’t know that this person was in his community.’ No, that’s a very low and disrespectful understanding for Prophet ﷺ. What he wanted to give as a guidance to the companions was that you see him through your eyes, but not through your heart. And he is with us and walking amongst our community, but he’s not from us.
When There is No Faith in the Heart, the Face is Darkened
Then, they waited a few days later when the youth was walking by and the sahabi (holy companion) grabbed him said, ‘Come, come, come.’ They introduced to Prophet ﷺ. He gave his introduction, and Prophet ﷺ asked him, ‘that right now, in your heart, you think you’re the best one?’ He said, ‘Yes, as a matter of fact, I did think I’m the best one.’ Immediately pride and arrogance, all the bad characteristics, and that one went immediately into the masjid to make his namaz (prayer). And Prophet ﷺ described to the companions, ‘I see the scabs of shaytan on his face. I see the scabs of shaytan upon his face.‘ It means that if there is no perfection within the heart, the heart is a reflection that comes to the face.[Hds]
This means the light of the heart, nurul iman (light of faith), shines upon the face. If there is no iman (faith) inside the heart, and no nur (light) inside the heart, you see a face that’s darkened. If you’re from Ahlul Basirah (people of spiritual vision) and the people who use their heart, then you would begin to see the scabs of what Prophet ﷺ is describing. It means Shaytan (satan) has affected that one’s heart so much, that it reflects all of the wickedness that’s within the heart.
The Holy Companions and the Youth with Impressive Salah
And the hadith goes on. Prophet ﷺ asked his companions to rid us of that one. He’s making his namaz (prayer) now. Sayyidina Abu Bakr Siddiq (as) and went into the masjid and saw that he is praying perfectly – how I’m going to do anything? And he came back out to Prophet ﷺ and said, ‘He’s praying. He’s praying very nicely too. He’s reciting very beautifully.’ So, it means shayateen, they recite very beautifully. And they pray very nice.
And then he was making sajdah (prostration) and Prophet ﷺ sent Sayyidina Umar in. Umar al Farooq, go destroy it. Sayyidina Umar (as) went in and saw him in sajdah, and amazing sajdah, and he came running back out. And said I can’t do it. He [Prophet ﷺ] looked at Imam Ali (as), for sure you’re going to take care of this. Because going with complete yaqeen (certainty). He’s going to go with his heart and see what he’s supposed to see – that that is a shaytan trying to imitate an insan (man). But because of the bad characteristics of pride and enmity, and jealousy, and all of these characteristic, it makes all the evilness and wickedness to appear upon the face.
Imam Ali (as) when he went in, that one had already run out. And Prophet ﷺ described to the companions, had you had destroyed that one, my nation would have had no fighting until the Day of Judgement. Not two brothers would have argued. But as a result, all the way till Judgement Day, our nation will be under difficulty.
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ Gave Signs of the Last Days
And the nation right now, is under exact difficulty of what Prophet ﷺ described. A bunch of crazy young people with absolutely nothing within their hearts. When you hear what they’re talking about, there was one now who killed his mother, astaghfirullah. He took it upon himself that he is correct, she is wrong. And to destroy your own paradise! For Prophet ﷺ described, ‘Your paradise under the feet of your mother.’
“Al Jannatu tahta aqdamil ummahati.” [Sunan bin Maja]
“Paradise is under the feet of the mothers.” [Narrated by Anas bin Malik, in bin Maja]
Another hadith that the women would give birth to their masters, to their oppressors. Again, this came out as a result of this man’s action.
“. [رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ]
Qala: Fa akhberni ‘an amaraateha.
Qala: an taleda al amatu rabbataha, …
[Rawahu Muslim]
“Then tell me about its signs,” said the man (Jibreel)(as).
The Prophet ﷺ replied, “That slave women give birth to their mistresses; …”
[Sahih Muslim]
We Are in Difficulty When We Only Focus On Our Physicality
It means that this was a warning from Prophet ﷺ. That if a nation become so stuck on the exterior and the façade, and if your movies are based on that, and you want to make your religion based on the façade, everything inside will be rotten. Everything inside will be corrupt. And a nation that is based on just a façade, means inside will be corrupt. Inside will be sickened. Inside will be dangerous. That’s why the duas (supplications) of most people are not accepted. They are in difficulty. They’re in difficulty because they focused only on the physicality and they didn’t focus on anything of their spirituality and qalb (heart).
And the only prescription that they give for the inner purification, is “Zikrullah tatma’innul qulob”.
13:28 – “Alladheena amano wa tatma’innu Qulobu hum bidhikrillahi, ala bi dhikrillahi tatma’innul Qulob.” (Surat Ar-Ra’d)
“Those who believe, and whose hearts find satisfaction in the remembrance of Allah. For without doubt in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find satisfaction.” (The Thunder, 13:28)
Shaytan Makes Us Forget Zikrullah/Remembering Allah (AJ) in Allah’s House
This means that people who don’t make zikrullah, and they don’t mention Allah’s (AJ) names. Then read Holy Qur’an where Allah (AJ) says, ‘Shaytan made them to forget My remembrance in my masjid‘.
58:19 – “Istahwadha ‘alayhimush shaytanu fa ansahum Dhikra Allahi, Olayika hizbush shaytani, ala inna hizbash shaytani humul khasiroon.” (Surat Al-Mujadila)
“The Satan/Evil One has got the better of them/Overcome them: so he has made them Forget/lose the remembrance of Allah. They are the Party of Satan. Truly, it is the Party of the Evil One that will perish!” (The Pleading Woman, 58:19)
That’s two, two understandings of that ayat (verse) where shaytan made them to forget my remembrance within the masjid of Allah (AJ). Zikrullah is the mentioning of Allah (AJ) within masjid of Allah (AJ). It means that Shaytan made them to forget remembering Me in My house. How you can’t remember Allah (AJ) in the house of Allah (AJ)? What you remembering in the house of Allah (AJ)?
So now, because external internal, now we look and say, ok, are there any masjids that allow zikrullah (remembrance of Allah (AJ))? As if it’s some sort of a weird practice, they say, ‘No, no, no. No mentioning of Allah’s name in this Allah’s house.’ Oh okay, well that ayat of Qur’an says Shaytan made us to forget that. Shaytan doesn’t want the remembrance of Allah (AJ).
Zikrullah Constantly Purifies the Heart
Now take the house of Allah (AJ), qalbun mu’min baytullah (the heart of the believer is the house of Allah).
“Qalb al mu’min baytur rabb.”
“The heart of the believer is the House of the Lord.” Hadith Qudsi
May awliyaullah (saints) come into our life and teach us, okay, if the external houses are not going to mention Allah (AJ). You have a house within your heart and the house within the heart has to be constant in the remembrance of Allah (AJ). It’s a constant purification for the heart. Where Allah (AJ) then begins to describe, ‘Take my house. Wash it. Purify it and circumambulate the house.’
2:125 – “…An Tahhir baytee liTayifeena, wal ‘Aakifeena, wa ruka’is sujood.” (Surat Al-Baqarah)
“…Purify/Sanctify My House for those who perform Tawaf (circamambulation) and those who seclude themselves for devotion, and bow and prostrate [in prayer].” (The Cow, 2;125)
It means how I am going to circumambulate my heart? Because all my nazar (gaze) will be on my heart. And that’s what Prophet ﷺ gave in another hadith, ‘Who knows himself will know his Lord’, his rabb.
“Man ‘arafa nafsahu faqad ‘arafa Rabbahu”
“Who knows himself, knows his Lord.”
Only Zikrullah and Praising Prophet ﷺ Bring Faith to the Heart
It means my whole focus, ya Rabbi, is that I washed my body, but that body going into the dirt. How do I wash my heart? How do I wash my soul? Is my heart good with you? Is my soul good with you? Then the heart to have iman is nurul iman (light of faith). It means only by the zikr (remembrance) and the salawat (praising) on Prophet ﷺ, it brings the light within the heart. If it brings the light within the heart, and the zikr (remembrance) of the heart, that is the wudu (ablution) of the heart. That is the washing and the cleansing of the heart.
How then to bring in and elevate the soul to Maqamul Ihsan (station of moral excellence) is through durood sharif and praising upon Prophet ﷺ. Because with nurul iman, and then the salawat of Prophet ﷺ, Prophet ﷺ uplifts the soul into the Divinely Presence. That you remember me once, and I come ten times to remember you.
Qala Rasulullah (saws): “Man Salla `alaiya Salatan wahidatan, Sallallahu `alayhi `ashra Salawatin, wa Huttat `anhu `ashru khaTeatin, wa ruf`at lahu `ashru darajatin.”
Prophet Muhammad (saws) said: “Whoever sends blessings [Praises] upon me, God will shower His blessings upon him ten times, and will erase ten of his sins, and elevate [raise] his [spiritual] station ten times.” [Hadith recorded by Nasa’i]
This means that those ten times Allah (AJ) is allowing the soul in the presence of Prophet ﷺ. Then the maqam of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ, which is unimaginable for us, and just one small understanding of “Qaab qawsayni aw adna” (at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer.) (Qur’an, 53:9). That your soul will be taken to the presence of Prophet ﷺ, will be dressed ten times, and there is no beginning and no end of that dress and that light. And that is the power of the reality.
The Reality of a Dua is From the Heart, Not the Lips
But when a nation is stuck in only the form and everything inside is empty. They (saints) teach us then the real wudu (ablution) is not only the exterior wudu, but the focus of the interior wudu and the bringing of light into the soul, the light into the heart. Then they teach that the dua of the tongue, everything, when you put everything in that understanding. They say okay, if the inside is rotten and the person is praying, the likelihood of that prayer going anywhere – hmm, Allah (AJ) is Ghaforur Rahim,(the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful), that counted for something. Imagine dua (supplication), that the dua of the tongue, when the heart is empty or devoid of light, devoid of love, devoid of the remembrance of Allah (AJ) and durood sharif. What the benefit of the tongue that moving and flapping like a trained bird?
The reality of dua is not from the mouth. Allah (AJ) says, ‘I am going to seal your lips’. So, it means if the dua is moving to Allah’s presence, and Allah (AJ) describing that when My Presence comes into your presence on the Day of Judgement, the first thing I am going to do, is seal your lips and ask your hands and feet what you did.
36:65 – “Al yawma nakhtimu ‘ala afwahehim wa tukallimunaa aydeehim wa tashhadu arjuluhum bima kanoo yaksiboon.” (Surat YaSeen)
“That Day, We will seal over their mouths, and their hands will speak to Us, and their feet will testify about what they used to earn.” (YaSeen, 36:65)
It means then the lips can’t be the power of dua. The dua of the body moving through its mouth is of no value in Divinely Presence. But then the dua of the heart means when the person begins to make a dua, and if their heart is activated. If their heart has a shayateen within it, and bad characteristic within it, what is the benefit of moving lips even you have five hundred pages of dua? What is going to do if Shaytan is inside the heart? Allah (AJ) won’t let that dua to rise.
Be From the Ashiqeen of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ
But the heart that been purified, the heart then baytullah, the heart that has the love of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ means their dua at the level of iman (faith) merely they begin to release a light within their heart. That heart moves into the Divinely Presence. That light moves into the Divinely Presence.
The dua of Maqamul Ihsan and perfection means they’re from the ashiqeen (lovers). Their heart sparks a fire of love for Prophet ﷺ and it becomes like the charcoal. We described it many times, that the ashiqeen when their prayers are accepted, their heart is sparked like a fire. And merely the dua like a bukhoor, like a fragrance, it hits their heart. It releases a fragrance in which the malaika (angels) that are around them, they enjoy and love that fragrance. That fragrance is based off of the love of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. Those angels take the fragrance of that dua immediately into the Divinely Presence. It means the dua of awliyaullah is not from the mouth. The dua of Ahlul Iman (people of faith) and those who are mumin (believers) and muhsin (pious) from their heart. But Maqamul Ihsan means they’re ashiqeen (lovers). They produce a fragrance from their soul. That fragrance is delivered by malaika (angels) into the Divinely Presence.
Focus Within Yourself as the Light Controls the Form
It means everything that we’re doing is not something small. If the inside is bad…Prophet ﷺ described again in another hadith, ‘There’s a piece of flesh. If it’s good, all of you is good. If it’s bad, all of you is bad. And that is a heart of a believer.’
“أَلا وَإِنَّ فِى الْجَسَدِ مُضْغَةً إِذَا صَلَحَتْ صَلَحَ الْجَسَدُ كُلُّهُ، وَإِذَا فَسَدَتْ فَسَدَ الْجَسَدُ كُلُّهُ، أَلا وَهِى الْقَلْبُ “
“Ala wa inna fil Jasadi mudghatan idha salahat salahal jasadu kulluho, wa idha fasadat fasadal jasadu kulluho, ala wa heyal Qalb.”
“There is a piece of flesh in the body, if it becomes good (reformed) the whole body becomes good but if it gets spoiled the whole body gets spoiled and that is the heart.” Prophet Muhammad (saws)
That the purification of the heart, the cleansing of the heart, the washing of the heart, all of that is what belief is about. A nation that only washes their outside and doesn’t wash their inside is destined for failure. But a nation that turns to their inside, and begins to look to their inside, wash their inside, purify the inside, and understand that the inside controls the outside. The light controls the form, not the form controls the light. The light is from the heavens. If the light of the heavens within the heart of the believer, the love of the heavens within the heart of the believer means then everything can be accomplished.
We pray that Allah (AJ) grant us from these lights. This is the fourth lunar month, and the openings of the Sirat Surat YaSeen, that Allah (AJ) grant us from these lights, grant us from the love of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ, Ashabil Nabi ﷺ (holy companions of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)), Ahlul Bayt Nabi ﷺ, (holy family of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)) and awliyaullah fi samawati wal ardh (saints within heavens and earth). Bi hurmati Muhammad al-Mustafa wa bi sirri surat al-Fatiha.
